This is "Now", a 5-minute short film from 1965, so it had its 50th anniversary last year already. It is as short as it is effective. The director of this award-winning short film is Cuvan filmmaker Santiago Álvarez and it is, despite the length, one of his most known works. The main reason for the success and popularity of this one would be Lena Horne's powerful voice. Her words that now is the time to stop racial discrimination against Black people in the United States and not just in a few years or even decades works very well together with the photos and recordings we see in here that depict exactly these abysmal ways of discrimination. First of all, I believe this short film is an important historical document. But I also think that people who believe discrimination is still a huge problem today should check this one out to see how people are really discriminated against. Violently. Repeatedly. Constantly. Today we live in times of tolerance, equality and respect. There are black sheep of course, but this applies to every area, every subject, every country. Thanks to works like this one, almost everything changed for the better, even if some people try their best so we don't see these great improvements during the last decades. I applaud Álvarez (one of his earlier works) and Horne for helping the cause with their collaboration here. I highly recommend the watch.
