Amusing Spanish comedy based on the novel titled The inhabitants of the uninhabited house by prestigious writer Enrique Jardiel Poncela. It boasts a very good cast as Tony Leblanc Fernando Rey Luz Marquez as well as notorious secondaries . It deals with a successful writer played by Fernando Rey who travelling by train finds his old girlfriend, Luz Marquez, who time ago he was about to marry her but she suddenly disappeared . Rey helped by a botcher and coward but sympathetic man , Tony Leblanc, discover a set-up in which some crooks attempt to carry her a healing house to take her inheritange.

Fun comedy set on a train and a castle where bemusing images and hilarious set pieces are happened . The funniest scenes result to the confusion and mayhem that cause the protagonists and crooks when they disguise as ghosts, living skeleton, beheaded man , werewolf, Dr Jekill and Mr Hyde and other monsters .The cast gives funny and attractive interpretation .As Tony Leblanc plays a bungler and coward young who becomes involved with the silly thieves . Fernando Rey is charming as the stubborn writer who attempts to retrieve his lost sweetheart. Attractive Luz Marquez as a beautiful woman who is deceived and blackmailed and coerced to be imprisoned at a mental sanatory as an insane girl . Support cast is frankly excellent plenty of known secondaries and cameos as Rosario Ortega , Manolo Gomez Bur , Goyo Lebrero , Xan Das Bolas , Jose Calvo, Agustin Gonzalez , Rufino Ingles, Fernando Fernan Gomez , Francisco Bernal, Joaquin Roa , and Rafael Bardem as the Hungarian father who suffers a blackmail .

The picture contains an evocative cinematography in black and white by Emilio Foriscot as well as an atmospheric musical score by Federico Contreras. Being shot in Chamartin studios Madrid with nice production design by the important designer Enrique Alarcon .The motion picture was professional but regularly directed by Pedro L Ramirez. Pedro was a craftsman who made some hits as Recluta con niño,Los ladrones somos gente honrada , El tigre de Chamberi ,El gafe, Crimen para recien casados , Donde pongo este muerto and La Cenicienta y Ernesto . He directed several comedies but also made other genres as Spaghetti Western such as Judas toma tus monedas ,Ninguno de los tres se llamaba Trinidad ; furthermore , Giallo as El pez de los ojos de oro and Terror as El colegio de la muerte . Rating : 5,5/10 . Acceptable and passable but average . The motion picture will appeal to Spanish cinema buffs and Fernando Rey/Tony Leblanc fans .
