- Dodie: [Referring to her boyfriend Buzz] He's even considering marrying me.
- Pete: Maybe you ought to marry me instread.
- Dodie: You shouldn't say things like that.
- Pete: Why not?
- Dodie: We hardly even know each other.
- Pete: Sometimes people know each other better in one night than they do... in two weeks.
- Pete: Honey, I'm sorry about the whole thing. That's all I can say. Why don't we go out anyway? I"ll tell you what, I'll show you the greatest time you ever had on two bucks and a dime.
- Dodie's Mother: I'm lucky I married you instead of Mort Tweedy. Mort made his second wife work in the store.
- Dodie's Pop: And by the way, he murdered his first wife.
- Dodie's Mother: Yes, that too.
- Marge: Dodie, you know some day when I'm not around, you're going to walk right off the end of a pier or something.
- Dodie: [daydreaming] I wonder what it would be like?
- Marge: Wet.
- Dodie: No, no. I mean to be rich on a yacht like that. Rich rich.
- Marge: You know what? That's one thing you and I will never have to worry about.
- Dodie: I can dream, can't I.
- Marge: Oh, you sure can. Better than most people.
- Dodie: Who won the bet?
- Dodie's Pop: Well, Buzz, as usual. That boy's awful lucky.
- Dodie: And *very* persistent.
- Dodie: [singing] I know my brave is as brave as a brave can be, They call him Crazy Horse the Cherokee, I don't mind scalps all over the place, I don't mind paint all over his face, Cause I'm just crazy about Crazy Horse, you see, And Crazy Horse is crazy over me, When I first saw him dancin' up the pow-wow, I ran right up to him and hollered: How! Wow...
- Neil Patterson, Jr.: That's the way I want you to feel.
- Dodie: Well, I don't feel any way! I mean, I don't know what way I feel. So, I don't see how you can be glad how I feel.
- Sam Kelsey - Sailor: [two girls walk by wearing colorful dresses] Man, look at that pair of rainbows. I wouldn't mind dabbling in those colors.
- Neil Patterson, Jr.: Yeah, brings out the Picasso in me too!
- Dodie: [singing] Mexican take life slow, Mexican not work day and night, Maybe not make much dough, But Mexican clothes are nice and bright...
- Sam Kelsey - Sailor: [singing] Mexican not so thin, Like her sister American, But the Mexican feminine, And Mexican clothes, oh man, oh man...
- Dodie's Pop: Take good care of her, my boy, she's all we got.
- Dodie's Mother: Oh, except Pauline. Another three years and Pauline'll really surprise you!
- Pauline - Dodie's Sister: Puberty, you know.
