- A young woman must be married to claim her inheritance; her misandrist aunt uses the newly-passed 1955 divorce bill to find her a temporary husband.
- A naive young heiress in the custody of a tough-minded feminist aunt is forced into a 'marriage of convenience' with an unemployed cartoonist in an attempt to save her millions. However, in the course of this facade, she learns the true meaning of marriage and the deep significance of being an Indian wife, much to the dismay of her aunt who, in adherence to her wayward beliefs, has been trying to instill anti-male sentiment in her niece's ingenuous mind.—Hrishi Dixit <hrishi@slb.com>
- Sita Devi is a free-spirited person with close ties to women's liberation groups. She would prefer that her only niece Anita would never marry and be dependent on a man, but instead be single and free. When Sita's brother, Anita's father, passes away, he leaves behind a vast fortune to be paid to Anita. The only condition: she must be married in order to inherit. Sita hires an unemployed artist, Preetam Kumar, to be a temporary groom for Anita. Sita's plan materializes and soon Anita and Preetam are married. After the marriage Sita instructs Preetam to keep away from Anita, but fate has other plans for this trio.—rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)
