The road to redemption
dbdumonteil8 February 2010
"Antonio is a nineteen-year-old orphan to whom his mother has left a huge fortune. Unfortunately his tactless tutor has undertaken to dispossess him.." Actually they barely speak of this tactless tutor (we do not even see him)and Antonio's situation is never really talked about so if you want to understand "Camino Cortado" ,a bit of advice:read the plot before ,or at least its beginning..

It's primarily a road movie which tries some tacks with some success: the deserted village, the cops who seem to be everywhere and invisible, the dam,and the things -are-not-what-they -seem trick.

Unfortunately ,the ending ruins almost everything: these unbearable five last minutes about moral redemption reminds the viewer of a time when the Spanish system of government used to suppress anything which was not "moral" ;Antonio could have been played by an older Joselito .And if it were not enough ,when they open the floodgates ,they wash all of the sins away...Let it be so.
