Cheesy But Beautiful

"Cuidado con el amor" is a Mexican movie from the 50's, dealing with a young man who moves out into the wide world in a search for adventure and thee good life. When he meets the woman of his dreams, he has to work hard to convince her, that he will be an honest man to her and won't be choosing booze and cards over her.

All in all, this is a very cheesy movie. The hero falls in love quite early, with literally the first girl he meets on his adventure. From then on the film circles mainly around love and his attempts to win her over somehow, including Mexican songs and guitars. Fortunately, there are in fact some side plots that guarantee a bit relief from the dramatic love. There is a certain amount of running gags included, some of them work better than others, but altogether I really liked the warmth they helped to create. I cannot but like this movie, for it is somehow innocent, even though it isn't naive. You can surely question how likely it is that all these events come together and you will find it rather unlikely, but somehow it doesn't matter because you gain honest joy from them.

Feel-good cinema for people who aren't afraid of older movies or subtitles, beautiful movie with a good load of cheesiness.
