Sex & Nudity

  • A brothel is shown with many women and men drinking and laughing. A man leaves a room and the woman chases him that he is not payed for her. Sex is implied.
  • All of the sexual content in the movie is implied, nothing is actually seen.
  • Soldiers raid a village and it is implied that some women are raped.
  • A woman is kidnapped and raped by a group of samurai.
  • A married man has sex with another woman.
  • A couple bathes together naked in a pond. The man's bare chest can be seen, and the women begins to disrobe as the camera pans away.
  • A woman in a brothel claims that she beds a man every night.

Violence & Gore

  • Similar to the sexual content in the film, most of the violence is implied. Gore is almost non-existent.
  • The setting of the movie is during the chaos of a war, so several scenes of samurai raiding villages can be seen. They kick down and push over peasants, but no blood or gore can be seen.
  • A wounded man is found drifting in a boat on a lake. A head wound is visible, and he dies shortly after he is found.
  • A man is beheaded. The camera pans in such a way that the actually beheading takes place behind a rock, and as it pans back, the man covers up the missing head before anything is actually seen.
  • The head is later presented to an army official. It is unwrapped from a cloth in such a way that no blood or gore is actually seen.
  • A man is stabbed with a spear, though it is clear to the viewer that the spear doesn't penetrate the armor and no blood is seen. The man dies of his wounds.

Profanity

  • Bitch, Damn & Maybe Hell are used.
  • The movie contains minimal to no swearing.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some drinking. Characters are shown drunk in a brothel.
  • Sake is consumed in various scenes in the movie.
  • In one scene a character appears to be mildly drunk (slightly disoriented).
  • The movie contains no smoking or drug use.

  • The movie takes place during war time, so there are a few suspenseful scenes where the main characters safety is potentially threatened.
  • A man is covered in buddhist prayers in an attempt to exorcise a spirit.

  • The woman that the married man sleeps with is revealed to be a spirit. When he returns home, his wife greets him, only to be revealed the next morning that she too is a spirit, having been killed by soldiers while he was away.
