In XVII century Spain, Doña María dresses as a man to avenge an offense to her old father by means of a duel, which is forbidden by the law. Helped by a gentleman who mistakes her for a boy, she runs away and goes to the court in Madrid. There, posing as Isabel, a tavern maid with a singing voice that matches her beauty, she attracts both servants and nobility, hoping to find a way to clear her family's name and falling in love in the meantime.
