Joe Madigan is the boss of a harvesting crew, which includes his buddies Jim Davs and "Kink," that follow the wheat-harvesting from the panhandle of Texas north through Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and into the Dakotas each season. On their first farm-stop, the farmer's niece, Fay Rankin, falls hard for Joe but he isn't interested in anything but reaping wheat. So, she plies her wiles on Jim and joins as Joe and his crew move their combines northward. While keeping her eye on Joe and letting him know she is available, she influences Jim to start skimming wheat from the customers so there will be some extra money to keep her in the style she desires to become accustomed to. When Jim is caught high-grading, his buddies flee with him across the state line. There, Fay tells Jim she only married him in order to be close to Joe, and Jim and Joe have a fight about it until they both conclude she isn't worth fight over, and they go off together and leave her standing alone in Nebraska.
