French-Canadian outdoorsman Pierre lives on the plains of Saskatchewan around the rural town of Moose Hill. He is a good natured fellow who, in his sense of justice, helps especially the native Indians, that help often on the margins of the law which gets him into frequent trouble with the Mounties who always threaten to evict him from the territory. He has a casual relationship with Moose Hill saloon owner Daisy Denton, who, tired of waiting for something more substantial from Pierre especially in knowing he has a wandering eye, is planning on marrying Jap Durkin. Jap has just been taken on as a guide for the Mounties, which Pierre finds incredulous in Jap associating with some criminal elements, most specifically Clerou with who Pierre often has run-ins. What happens between Pierre and Daisy is affected by the arrival of wealthy Percival Wellsby and his beautiful daughter Celia Wellsby, the two who are planning on taking in the great outdoors, and circumstantial evidence pointing to Daisy's younger brother, Val Denton, being involved in murder.
