For this role, Henie's American film debut, she had to be taught her dialogue lines phonetically since she didn't speak fluent English. After the film turned out to be a big box office hit, Henie was convinced her thick accent was part of her audience appeal, and refused Fox's offer to hire her an English coach for future roles. As a result, Henie's Norwegian accent remained throughout her film career.
