Thelma Todd and Pats Kelly decide to take a camping vacation in this episode of Hal Roach's GIL FRIENDS series.
Miss Kelly's comic personna is pretty well set: helpful, brash and always wrong. Miss Todd, however, seems to be trying to pla Oliver Hardy dealing with Stan Laurel. It's mildly disconcerting to watch her smash her head down on her hat or sarcastically ask "What would I do without you?", with the ghost of Hardy nodding emphatically. Was this originally proposed as a short for the Boys? Did this get made, while the concept evolved into THEM THAR HILLS?
There are some good bits. I like the one in which Patsy proposes to chop down a sequoia with an axe.
