Another Beautiful Betty Boop Film
Britney-Keira5 March 2010
I have been working through the Betty Boop catalogue, and this is another beautiful example of how good Betty Boop is! Wonderful animation, Koko tap dancing was extraordinary, especially when we consider it was 1932.

The surrealistic images, the wonderful song from Betty, complete with Boop-Oop-A-Doop! This is a warm, fresh, original animated short, and it makes you wonder what happened to that originality in animation, apart from the genius of Studio Ghibli, and some of the Pixar films there is not much to say about modern animation, and there is less to say about amimated short films.

This was fine animation, and should be watched by all!

Rehearsing on trains has never been this much fun
TheLittleSongbird21 January 2017
Fleischer were responsible for some brilliant cartoons, some of them still among my favourites. Their visual style was often stunning and some of the most imaginative and ahead of its time in animation.

The character of Betty Boop, one of their most famous and prolific characters, may not be for all tastes and sadly not as popular now, but her sex appeal was quite daring for the time and to me there is an adorable sensual charm about her. That charm, sensuality and adorable factor is not lost anywhere here, nor her comic timing and she is very well supported by the ever fun Bimbo and Koko. Plus the rest of the show troupe, the animals and the train itself.

Not among the best Betty Boop cartoons by all means, though still a very good one. This said, it has all the elements that make her pre-Code cartoons so worthwhile and does do so much, almost everything, right and little wrong. The weak link is the story, which is basically acts being strung together and not much else.

However, the animation is outstanding, everything is beautifully and meticulously drawn and the whole cartoon is rich in visual detail and imagination. Every bit as good is the music score, which delivers on the energy, lusciousness and infectiousness, great for putting anybody in a good mood.

Loved the acts being shown, not just Betty's singing, Bimbo's juggling and Koko's tap dancing (my favourite) but also even the train itself gets in on the act with some really neat and imaginatively rendered tricks. 'The Betty Boop Limited' is ceaselessly fun, and delivers on the creativity as well as the imaginative surrealism. There are more risqué Betty Boop cartoons around, but there is still evidence of that in 'The Betty Boop Limited'. The voice work is fine.

On the whole, a lot of fun and a great watch visually and in entertainment. 8/10 Bethany Cox

"Ain'tcha kinda glad, 'an aintcha kinda gay, when you hear me say I loooove ya?" Warning: Spoilers
Oh her way to a big show while riding the rails on a very lively train, Betty just has to motivate all of her curious animal band mates to get in on one last rehearsal, and soon enough everybody is all singin' and dancin' right on the roof of the speeding train, which also gets in on the act! I do prefer the more dark and bizarre surrealistic shorts that the ones like this kind of pale in comparison to for me, but this cartoon is quite good, I'm not normally a big fan of them in these vintage shorts but I do love Betty's song, it's so catchy and I find the cheeky lyrics and her trademark pronounciation of them to be charming and hilarious. I love the old style trains, and I love the constant driving sense of motion that the near-anthropomorphic locomotive that features in this brings to the visuals. The train gets all the best, most weird morphing sight gags, such as right at the end when it collides with a poor meandering cow which is shattered into many milk bottles! I'm afraid that I don't particularly care for the moment when Koko the Clown does a little smooth dance, it looks a bit off and out of place somewhere to me, I think the effect was used to far more impressive effect in the Snow White short they did with Cab Calloway. Not a firm favourite but a good short with nice animation, a fun fast moving pace, and one nifty old timey song! Track on sweet Betty... X

Practically plot less but well animated
planktonrules18 August 2013
If you are looking for plot, you'll sure have a hard time finding it in "The Betty Boop Limited". The cartoon short consists of lots of animals and the two familiar sidekicks of Betty Boop, Ko Ko and Bimbo (he's a dog--and nothing more!). Betty sings a song and the train bounds down the tracks.

While the animation of this short is terrific (something that can be said of all the Fleischer Studio cartoons), the story is non-existent and the overall cartoon comes off as too cute and a bit dull. Compared to cartoons made by most studios other than Fleischer and Disney, this still is awfully good but it just doesn't have the quality or humor you'd expect in a typical Betty Boop short. Worth watching for die-hard Boop fans, otherwise easy to skip.
