Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The original ending is actually quite shocking and devoid of humor for a Laurel and Hardy short. In it, just as Stan and Ollie are about to leave the boarding house, a cop nails a quarantine notice to the door, saying nobody can leave for a few months. The landlord exclaims, "this is more than I can bear", and walks offscreen. Moments later, a gunshot rings out, implying that he committed suicide. Sad music plays on the soundtrack as Stan and Ollie walk back inside and the cop closes the door.
