Dovzhenlo worked in the Soviet embassy in London and Berlin before becoming a filmmaker so he knew the subject. The death of soviet courier Theodor Nette in 1926 was one of the impetus in the movie production.
Five parts of the film are stored at the Cinema Fund of the National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Centre; it is preserved without its 1st and 2nd reels.
