During filming in Rome on 5 Feb. 1924, a lioness became enraged and jumped over the barrier, killing an elderly Italian extra, Augusto Palombi.
When the project ran into financial trouble, brought on by its two squabling directors, offers for financial aid came from Germany. The only condition was that the producers would have to have a German as a co-director, so Georg Jacoby was signed as the third director of the film.
