Scenes representing Youth leaving and returning to the small town of his youth were originally going to be shot in Savannah, Georgia. The production arrived there but moved further south to St. Augustine, Florida, in search of better weather and working conditions. The move was made on the advice of George V. Hobart, the author of the original play on which the film was based, who was vacationing in Florida at the time of production.
