Man, Woman Or Canadian?
boblipton25 October 2023
Winter Hall dies, leaving his railroad and his shareholders in the capable hands of his daughter, Blanche Sweet. Mahlon Hamilton wants the railroad to increase his profits, and shareholders take the hindmost. He's buying up shares of Miss Sweet's railroad. So she has him kidnapped to woods in the middle of nowhere, where she and her father liked to vacation. Their old guide, Russell Simpson, is willing to go along with her, so she stays to keep an eye on Hamilton, and see if he has any sand. There's also villainous Quebecois voyageur Boris Karloff on hand to stir the poutine.

Who knew things were so Canadian in Truckee? Miss Sweet is very good as the woman in possession, loving, impish, and a good business executive too. She was 22 when she made this, after more than two decades in show business. She was at the start of a streak of fine performances in well-received movies. In another dozen years, she would be washed up on screen.
