Lost Mildred Harris Silent Film
PamelaShort3 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Linnie ( Mildred Harris ) lives an unhappy life in a sordid home of poverty with her paralytic father and miserable brother. She works in a department store as a clerk and one day captures the interest of her employer's son, Preston Winfield ( Kenneth Harlan ). Depressed by a loveless match his parents have arranged for him, Preston desires to brighten the life of one of his father's clerks. While his family is away, Preston persuades Linnie to accept money to buy some new clothes, and arranges for them to spend the next six nights doing whatever she wishes. Linnie's dreams come true as they enjoy dining, motoring, and going to the theatre until they are discovered by Linnie's brother at the Winifield's home on their last evening together. Linnie returns home in disgrace and unable to live with her humiliation, she commits suicide by throwing herself under Preston's car and dies later in the hospital.

This heartbreaking drama was directed by Lois Weber and Philips Smalley and starred teen-aged actress, Mildred Harris. This silent film's whereabouts are listed as unknown and fans can only hope a surviving copy someday resurfaces.
