- The young society man, thrown over by the girl he hoped to marry, goes away to forget, and on a walking tour, reaches a village where he puts up at the home of a storekeeper. The latter has two daughters, one of whom, an invalid, is tenderly nursed by her sister. The girl's kindness to all around her wins the admiration of the stranger. But he needs a final proof, and fate supplies it. Mice have been invading the store, and one is caught in a trap. The girl's aunt orders her to drown it. Afraid to disobey, she dips the trap into the water, but her heart is touched by the little creature's frantic efforts to escape death, and she opens the trap and sets it free. The stranger, watching her, is delighted to have found so true a heart. But before he can declare himself he learns that the girl's father is about to be dispossessed for debt. Hastening away, he returns in his automobile with money to cancel the mortgage, and wins a bride.
