- In 2019 Athol embarked on two marathon swims in the South Taranaki Bight. These swims were designed to highlight the issue and potential impacts of a proposed seabed mining operation in the area. The plan was to swim a diagonal cross over the 66km square proposed mine site, representing an 'X' or keep out symbolic message to those who want to extract seabed sands there. This short documentary recalls Athol's attempt to do something truly unique, in an effort to show us all what we could loose forever. Originally released in 2019 with the support of Greenpeace NZ and taken on a screening tour around the country by Athol and his team.
