- The killer: florist Ella Rollins. The victim: Lee Ward. Lee's dead body is one of two at an attempted robbery of an armored security truck, the primary players being two robbers and two security guards. The primary surviving eyewitness, Blair Morton, one of the two security guards who happens to be Ella's husband, describes the events as follows. After returning from a coffee run, his partner, Tony Lamot, the other victim, was shot in the back from a distance with what is later identified as specialty armor piercing bullets. As Blair rushed to Tony's side to administer CPR, which is against protocol, the second gunman, Lee but who is originally listed as a John Doe, approached and was ready to shoot him. What saved Blair was that Lee just dropped dead, from what Betty is later able to identify as a massive overdose of digoxin, a prescription medication the detectives will later learn Lee was taking. The situation with Lee led to the first gunman escaping in a getaway car. Because of the specifics of the robbery, Oscar believes that Blair may have been an inside person involved in the robbery gone wrong. A break occurs in the case when they are able to locate who they believe is the first gunman, Tim Kelly. The issues in Tim's involvement and tying him back to Lee and to Blair and then Ella are that all the evidence is circumstantial, Blair and Ella do not admit to ever having seen Tim before, and a strong bond exists between Blair and Ella, which the detectives can see and have to try to use against them. At the end of it all, Betty is particularly affected by this case. Meanwhile, Angie and Oscar's investigation into Neville Montgomery hits an official roadblock. And Oscar awaits the results of tests to see what is going on with his vision.
- Norman is determined to kill Michael Gary largely to avenge Sonya's murder. He figures it should be an easy enough task as Gary is a highly routinized man, most days playing golf alone first thing in the morning on a largely secluded course. Despite Wolfgang trying to persuade him even not to entertain the idea of murder, Norman takes some personal risks to pursue this thought, one such measure he believing to be poetic justice. Beyond the law catching up with Norman, Wolfgang believes a better tact is a frontal assault, albeit a slightly covert one, especially as Al's new bosses are considering Gary for the full-time role in Al's new job. As such, Wolfgang is trusting that Al is still an ally. Jimmy Wah's appearance poses more problems than Tony was anticipating. Tony places Rufus between a rock and a hard place with regard to this matter. In his business relationship with Frank Cosmo, Rufus tries to convince Lana to play a key role in the new organization, that role which is something she is reluctant to do. And Lily contemplates Al's advice following Sproule's death.
- After testing the efficacy of the date rape drug on himself, Norman believes he has all the pieces in place to kill Michael Gary, he telling Wolfgang that he wanting to be the one to pull the figurative trigger, if only to be the legacy known only to him and Wolfgang. As Gary himself seems to be getting close to the top of the chain of power, Wolfgang decides to meet with Gary to hear him out, even knowing that Gary's main motivation in doing so is only to get Wolfgang to cease his investigation into the attempted stadium bombing. Knowing that he can get into a position of confidence, Wolfgang may change his plan of attack with Gary to a long game, which if he does may not sit well with Norman. Meanwhile, Rufus' operation hits a snag. All the pieces are falling into place into taking over Andre's organization with Cosmo. The snag is on the movie set, with the problem being Jimmy Wah, who Tony wants Rufus to handle. Jimmy has been wielding his power effectively to shut down the movie production, which he will continue to do unless Mei Mei cooperates, her contract which Jimmy has repurchased from Wing Lei. Learning Jimmy's situation from Tony may give Rufus some leverage in how best to deal with the current impasse.
