- Practiced a little all over the central coast of Portugal, the "Arte Xávega" is an ancient fishing tradition that was intensified in the summer months. Along the years it evolved into specific techniques in each beach that was performed. A long time ago it was common to see the fisherman on their boats breaking the waves and the bulls on shore pulling the nets, but now those days are only a memory lost in time. There's no translation for "Arte Xávega", it's an ancient fishing tradition performed only in a few beaches in the Atlantic coast of Portugal and in Galiza, Spain. In our days, this cultural practice is almost extinct.
