- A man arrives in a Swedish port city to work as a waiter at the Hotel Busarewski. The man befriends two co-workers: the talkative Gustav "The Count" Svensson and the beautiful waitress Anna. Anna says that she is only there working temporarily, just like the man himself, and that she will soon move on to work at a seaside hotel. The Count, who is skilled in making others do what he wants, reveals to the man a plan he has that would bring them both lots of money and convinces him to assist in a poorly planned and failed attempt to free a friend of The Count who is in jail.

- On an wild, almost deserted island, Sizenanda and her husband Walter arrive at a hotel run by a group of girls. The local calm is interrupted by the attack by Ferreirão and his band of outlaws. Maria Zelzuita is one of the survivors of the Eldorado dos Carajás Massacre, in Pará. The trajectories of these two women connect us to the concept of violence and appropriation of the female body.
- Elza, a wicked woman runs a daycare center and, in complicity with her easily dominated husband, exploits five children, making them beg on the streets of the city. Toquinho, not resisting the mistreatment, tries to escape several times, always being pursued and captured by Elza. One day, the girl meets old Gui, a kind and human soul. - James Edmonds's intricately constructed 16mm montage film brings two disparate settings-Berlin and a village in the South of England-into the same cinematic head-space. Locating likenesses between soft light and overcast coasts, the comfort of sun-dappled interiors and the warmth of a tree-lined field, Edmonds both summons natural juxtapositions and creates unexpected harmony through deft super-impositions.
- Aroeiras is a fictional city in the northeastern interior of Brazil where Genésio lives. - After the death of her husband, Geracina and her three children, living under the northeastern farmer Alberto Lopes, depend only on a horse as a source of livelihood. With the drought that is plaguing the region, the farmer orders the only source of water in the region to be closed. While trying to give water to the horse, the eldest son is murdered by Lopes. Threatened with death, the widow appeals to justice, but the judge, bought by the farmer, absolves him. Mother and son leave the region and start working on a sugar mill. When Calixtinho, the youngest son, comes of age, Geracina incites him against Lopes to avenge the death of his brother and the outrages suffered by the family.

The sound collage uses fragments from sounds of nature and samples from a piece of music for violin and song, which are also transformed in a manner similar to that of the visual pictures.

The film is silent but a series of stares, glances and winks between the protagonists creates an optical language of flirtation and threat.
