At this point, Gary must choose between the girl's love, which will bring him freedom and Independence, and his brother, who means safety and protection against the hostile outside world. Gary is tormented, but love prevails and he chooses to run away with Wendy, not before a confrontation with Kenneth, a remarkable sign of their separation. And here the plot will crumble to a tragic and violent epilogue, which will see only one character as a survivor.
