London, Sep 4 (Ians) New Zealand’s white-ball captain Kane Williamson will be included in the 15-man squad for the Men’s World Cup in India as he continues to recover from right knee surgery, said New Zealand Cricket (Nzc).
Williamson had ruptured the Acl in his right knee while playing for Gujarat Titans in the opening match of Ipl 2023 against Chennai Super Kings on March 31 in Ahmedabad. The right-handed batter had jumped up on the deep square leg boundary and was successful in saving a six off a shot from Ruturaj Gaikwad.
But Williamson landed awkwardly on his right leg and had to be carried off the field immediately. He was subsequently ruled out of the rest of Ipl 2023 and went back home in early April for surgery, leaving his chances of playing the quadrennial tournament happening in India from October 5 to November 19, very slim.

Wellington, Aug 11 (Ians) New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is cautiously optimistic about getting fit for the Odi World Cup to be held in India in October-November this year.
Williamson, who is recuperating from a knee injury, on Friday gave some hope to the New Zealand fans by informing them that his recovery was ahead of schedule and on track for selection when the World Cup squad is picked next month.
“If the knee is at a stage where that can be a reality, that’s great, but it very much is about getting it right and making sure it is ready to go when that time comes – whenever that time is,” Williamson on Friday ahead of a net session with other Black Caps at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Christchurch, Aug 9 (Ians) New Zealand head coach Gary Stead has expressed optimism regarding Kane Williamson’s rehabilitation and emphasised the management’s cautious approach in overseeing the speed of his recovery process.
The 33-year-old hasn’t played any cricket since rupturing the Acl in his right knee while playing for Gujarat Titans in the opening match of Ipl 2023 against Chennai Super Kings on March 31 in Ahmedabad. He underwent surgery in April and has started training and batting in the nets recently.

Mount Maunganui, Aug 4 (Ians) New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said it is nice to see Kane Williamson back in the nets and facing deliveries with bat in hand on the road to recovery from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (Acl) in his right knee.
At the same time, Stead added that Williamson’s batting and fitness levels are not right at the level to perform at the international level. Williamson had ruptured the Acl in his right knee while playing for Gujarat Titans in the opening match of Ipl 2023 against Chennai Super Kings on March 31 in Ahmedabad.

Auckland, July 19 (Ians) Uncapped players batting all-rounder Dean Foxcroft and leg-spinner Adi Ashok on Wednesday earned their maiden New Zealand call-ups while pace all-rounder Kyle Jamieson made his comeback to the side for next month’s T20 tours of the UAE and England.
New Zealand are scheduled to play three T20Is against the UAE on August 17, 19 and 20, followed by four games in England from August 30 to September 5.
Jamieson is set to return to international cricket more than a year after sustaining a serious back injury in England last June. On the other hand, Foxcroft and Ashok earned their call-ups off the back of representing New Zealand A and impressive domestic form in the recent season.
Foxcroft, born in South Africa, moved to New Zealand in 2016 and is a newly qualified player for the side, having recently received eligibility approval from the Icc under its “exceptional circumstances” criteria.

New Zealand Cricket’s Gm High Performance Bryan Stronach said the case for retaining Stead was compelling.

London, June 9 (Ians) According to head coach Gary Stead, New Zealand’s left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult is on the line to make a return to the Test team despite declining a central contract.
Boult, 33, was released from his New Zealand Cricket Central Contract last year to spend time with his family and feature in various T20 leagues around the world. He last played for New Zealand in the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup semifinal against Pakistan.
Though he was not included in New Zealand’s list of contracted players on Thursday, Boult has instead signed a casual playing agreement with the national side. Stead believes this agreement will see Boult being involved in upcoming Tests for New Zealand, especially with matches against Australia and South Africa coming up in their 2023/24 summer of cricket.

New Delhi, June 8 (Ians) New Zealand speedster Trent Boult committed to being available for the national team for part of the playing programme despite declining a central contract and therefore has been offered a casual playing agreement.
In August of last year, Boult and New Zealand reached an agreement to mutually release his central contract. This arrangement granted the 33-year-old the opportunity to participate in different domestic leagues worldwide and prioritise spending quality time with his family.
“Boult, while again declining a central contract, has committed to being available for the BlackCaps for part of the playing programme and, on that basis, has been offered a casual playing agreement,” New Zealand Cricket said in a release.
With Boult turning out for the national team, it looks highly likely he will represent New Zealand at this year’s Icc Cricket World Cup in India, starting from October 5.
“We’re having positive conversations with Trent.

Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi and middle-order batter Henry Nicholls were recalled to the Odi squad named for the two tours with a maiden call-up for all-rounder Henry Shipley.
Former Black Caps player Luke Ronchi will be the head coach for the three-match Odi series against India in January with Gary Stead and Shane Jurgensen flying back after the Pakistan series.

Auckland, Nov 15 (Ians) New Zealand have left out two of their most experienced players — opener Martin Guptill and left-arm quick Trent Boult — for their white-ball series at home against India, with Kane Williamson continuing to lead the side in the three T20Is and three Odi series beginning at Wellington on November 18.
Following New Zealand’s loss at the semifinal stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia and their runners-up finish in the previous edition of the tournament in the UAE last year, New Zealand Cricket’s (Nzc) transition into a new era has commenced with the duo being left out and rising star Finn Allen primed to face Rohit Sharma’s side for the first time after being confirmed in both the white-ball squads for the fixture.

Auckland, Oct 21 (Ians) Tall New Zealand pace bowler Kyle Jamieson is confident his side will come out “tactically smart” in the Icc T20 World Cup Super-12 games against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.
Jamieson, sidelined with a back injury, said while the Black Caps recently lost an Odi series against the trans-Tasman rivals in Cairns, T20 cricket is a different ball-game altogether and anything can happen.
“(I’m) certainly backing the boys tomorrow (Saturday), obviously played them in the last month or so in some one-day cricket but T20’s a different format again. I’m sure they’ll (New Zealand) come out very tactically smart and play with that freedom and look to take them (Australia) on, on that big stage,” Jamieson told Senz Breakfast.
Australia, led by Aaron Finch, head into the opening Super 12 match as favourites due to their home advantage and history on their side.

Christchurch, Oct 10 (Ians) Top New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell will travel next week to Australia with the rest of the squad for the Icc T20 World Cup despite the 31-year-old stalwart suffering a hairline fracture on the finger of his right hand during a nets session ahead of the ongoing Tri-series involving Pakistan, Bangladesh and the hosts.
Mitchell’s availability for the upcoming showpiece event in Australia had been in doubt following the injury but head coach Gary Stead indicated while he might miss the opening Super 12 match against Trans-Tasman rivals Australia, the batter should be back for the latter part of the tournament.
“The good news is we have made a decision about Daryl Mitchell and he will tour with us to the World Cup,” Stead was quoted as saying by Icc on Monday.

Christchurch, Oct 9 (Ians) New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson could likely miss the entire Tri-series at home ahead of the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia as New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) want to give him as much time as possible to recover from an abdominal injury.
The Black Caps did not risk the 31-year-old quick in the match against Pakistan on Saturday and coach Gary Stead said managing Ferguson’s injury was a priority going into the T20 World Cup.
Ferguson was also absent from last year’s World Cup in the UAE with a calf injury and New Zealand are making it doubly sure he doesn’t get sidelined again.

Auckland, Sep 16 (Ians) Right-arm pace bowler Blair Tickner and top-order limited-over batter Finn Allen have got their first New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) central contracts, effectively filling the vacancies created by the departures of pace-bowling stalwart Trent Boult and all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme, respectively.
Tickner has played six ODIs and 11 T20s for the Black Caps, while 23-year-old Wellington batsman Allen has already represented his country in eight ODIs and 13 T20s.
Both featured on New Zealand’s tours of Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands, and Allen also played in the most recent series in the West Indies and Australia.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead said each of the newcomers to the central contracts list had been close to the top-20 announced in May, and had taken their opportunities in the interim.

Christchurch, Aug 24 (Ians) New Zealand on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for the three-match Odi series against Australia starting September 6 in Cairns, with fast bowler Matt Henry making a comeback after recovering from his rib injury.
Henry’s inclusion is the only change from the squad, who claimed New Zealand’s first one-day series win in the West Indies earlier this week, with spinner Ish Sodhi making way. With Sodhi missing out on selection, Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell will play the role of spin-bowling all-rounders in the squad.
Kane Williamson, resuming the captaincy after missing the final two games against West Indies in Barbados, said the squad couldn’t wait to head across the Tasman.
“It’s a great rivalry we have with Australia; it’s always a huge occasion for the fans, and the team really look forward to it,” said Williamson.

Bridgetown (Barbados), Aug 14 (Ians) Experienced New Zealand pace bowler Matt Henry has been ruled out of the three-match One-day International series against the West Indies due to a rib injury, dealing a huge blow to the tourists who are currently involved in a T20I series in the Caribbean.
Henry, a veteran of 60 ODIs, experienced pain in his left side during training last week and the affected area failed to improve following treatment, according to Icc.
The 30-year-old pacer will now fly back to New Zealand in the hope that he recovers in time for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy Odi series against Australia in September.
Henry’s departure will see inexperienced quick Ben Sears board the flight to the Caribbean as replacement, with the 24-year-old in line for his international Odi debut during the three-match series that commences this week.

Southampton, June 15 (Ians) Opener Devon Conway, who scored a double century on debut this month, left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel as well as injured duo Kane Williamson and Bj Watling, have been included in 15-member New Zealand squad for the World Test Championship final against India to be played at Hampshire Bowl from Friday.
Doug Bracewell, Jacob Duffy, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Santner have been left out after the squad that played the two-Test series against England was whittled down.

Birmingham, June 9 (Ians) Skipper Kane Williamson will miss New Zealand's second Test against England that begins here at Edgbaston from Thursday.
"Captain Kane Williamson will miss the second Test of the Blackcaps Tour of England as he rests his irritated left-elbow," said a statement from New Zealand Cricket (Nzc).
Williamson has been managing the injury since March when he missed the limited-overs home series against Bangladesh and also the first few matches of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2021.

London, June 1 (Ians) Pace bowler Trent Boult said on Tuesday he is looking to play the second Test against England beginning June 10, soon after New Zealand team coach Gary Stead had said that the left-armer will miss it and play only the World Test Championship (Wtc) final against India from June 18 at Southampton.

"I think the really encouraging thing is he has tested negative and my understanding is he's on a flight out of India pretty quickly as well."
Stead said he is still unsure about how long it will take Seifert to get back to New Zealand.

Auckland, March 17 (Ians) New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor has been ruled out of the opening game of the Odi series against Bangladesh with a small tear in his left hamstring. The first match is scheduled to be held on Saturday in Dunedin.
Left-handed batsman Mark Chapman has been called up as Taylor's replacement.
Taylor sustained the injury while fielding on the final day of the Central Stag's Plunket Shield victory over the Wellington Firebirds on Sunday at McLean Park in Napier.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead said he was hopeful Taylor would be available for the second game on Tuesday at Hagley Oval.
"It's a shame for Ross to have this happen on the eve of a series," he said.
"It's a small tear and we're hopeful after some rest and rehabilitation we can get him fit for the second game in Christchurch. It's an exciting time for Mark who...

Wellington, Dec 15 (Ians) New Zealand head coach Gary Stead on Tuesday confirmed that all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme won't be a part of the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan due to foot injury.
Stead said the all-rounder had a bone stress reaction in his right foot and wouldn't be ready for either the first Test against Pakistan slated to be played from December 26-30 in Tauranga, or the second Test in Christchurch from January 3-7.
"We haven't been able to get him up to running stage and ultimately bowling as well. He's looking like, hopefully, a mid-January return to play in the Super Smash," Stead was quoted as saying by stuff.co.nz.
de Grandhomme missed the two-match Test series against West Indies which the Black Caps won 2-0. Daryl Mitchell played in his place in the New Zealand XI against the Windies.
Meanwhile, regular skipper Kane Williamson is planned...
