Alyssa Raghu‘s second chance on American Idol did not last too long.
The 22-year-old singer made it to the Hollywood round of Idol for season 22 after previously finishing in the Top 8 of the show back in 2019. She became the first contestant to ever given the chance to audition again after making it to the live shows in a previous season.
Alyssa caused controversy when she showed up to support her best friend Julia Davo at her audition, but then sang for the judges herself and earned a ticket to Hollywood, despite knowing that her friend did not make it. Amid the backlash, she took to social media to slam the producers for pitting them against each other and claimed that the audition was heavily edited.
So, what happened in Hollywood?

Alyssa Raghu is speaking out in a six-minute video to slam producers of American Idol for pitting her against best friend Julia Davo and making it appear as if she “stole” her friend’s audition.
For those who don’t know, Alyssa made it to the Top 8 on American Idol season 17 back in 2019. It was her second time auditioning for the show and now she’s going to appear on the competition again.
Alyssa showed up to support her friend Julia at her audition for 2024′s season 22 and went into the audition room to say hello to the judges. Even though Julia didn’t make it to the next round, Alyssa asked the judges if she could sing for them.

American Idol is no stranger to bringing back former contestants, but viewers were surprised Sunday night when Alyssa Raghu returned five years after her previous stint.
Raghu understandably wanted the third time to be the charm and had taken several years away from the show to hone her talent following her second appearance in 2019.
In one of the show’s most shocking moments, Raghu was there to support her friend, Julia Davo, who was given similar critiques to come back when her voice had grown.
“I know you said that my voice was going to grow until it was 21,” Raghu recalled.
“You said that when I was, like, 15. Just for giggles, I’d love to sing you something.”
Perry was initially very excited about hearing how Raghu’s voice had changed, noting that it was “one last chance on the oval.”

Alyssa Raghu is throwing her hat back into the American Idol ring, hoping that a third time will be the charm. The singer, who previously competed in Season 16 (2018) and Season 17 (2019), made a special appearance on Sunday in support of her roommate — and ended up auditioning for a third shot at victory herself.
Raghu’s friend, 20-year-old Julia Davo, auditioned with a vibrato-heavy performance of David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” that left the judges feeling a little shaky. They essentially told Davo the same thing they once told Raghu, that she should come back after she’s given her voice some time to grow.

A couple weeks ago on episode 4 of the current 16th season of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” the show opened with 18-year-old twin brothers, Trent and Colton Edwards, contemporary dancers with flair to spare who are based in Pittsburgh. They explained that they only took up dancing three years ago. However, they also added that they had musical theater experience, which they said provided the equivalent of Tsa PreCheck when it came to taking on dance. Cute, huh?
The good-looking twosome instantly charmed the judges with their talkative personalities as cheeky Colton confessed that he was the evil twin of the two. Their “Sytycd” performance (see clip above) was quite a showstopper and even caused judge Mary Murphy to let loose with one of her sonic shrieks of glee. Of course, they were given a golden ticket to the Academy.

In one of his first interviews since winning “American Idol” Season 17, country singer Laine Hardy just told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that he can’t wait to “get started working on music.” Laine took the red eye from Los Angeles to New York City in order to appear on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” in the wee hours of Monday morning. “I slept like three hours on the way here,” the 18-year-old mumbled to the morning hosts while donning his flowered suit jacket. One of the most viral contestants of “American Idol” this season was someone who didn’t even make it to the live shows: Shayy. This 18-year-old high school student from Midlothian, Va recently lost her vision due to a brain tumor, which the doctors were only partially able to remove. Shayy’s initial audition of Andra Day‘s “Rise Up” was the most-watched audition of Season 17, which is why it was so shocking to see her eliminated in the Hawaii showcase round. The good news for “American Idol” fans is that Shayy returned during Sunday’s season finale to perform “Rise Up” with — who else? — the original singer herself. Watch the video above.

American Idol wrapped its 17th season on Sunday, delivering a three-hour extravaganza filled with live music, familiar faces and, as always, crippling disappointment.

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon joined forces with Katy Perry, while Laci Kaye Booth shared the stage with Luke Bryan. The Top 3 contestants still in the running for the season 16 title are Alejandro Aranda, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg. Even after all these years, “American Idol” is still TV’s most-watched reality show. Per TV By The Numbers, ABC’s “Idol” topped all others for the final week of April with 2.0 million viewers in the all-important 18-49 demographic. In fact, it was the #2 program of the week in that age group behind only “The Big Bang Theory” with 2.3 million. As for its closest reality TV competition in the demo, “Survivor” came in with 1.9 million while “The Voice” (Monday) scored 1.5 million and “The Voice” (Tuesday) earned 1.2 million.

“There was a lot of outrage over Walker being sent home,” says Gold Derby contributor Denton Davidson when discussing the recent elimination of both Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu on Season 17 of “American Idol.” “A lot of people thought Wade [Cota] should have been the one to go,” he continues. “People are saying the judges should have used their save on Walker.” Davidson joins senior editors Marcus James Dixon and Susan Wloszczyna to discuss the most recent eliminations, the recently revealed Top 6 and who the judges might save now.

On a night beset by forgotten lyrics, a dearth of commanding stage presence and disjointed duets, it was judge Katy Perry who made the biggest faux pas on the show where the Top 8 were whittled down to 6, according to 27% of “American Idol” fans.
The awkward moment came after Season 17’s cute country dude Laine Hardy and throaty darling Laci Kaye Booth trilled the Johnny and June Carter Cash’s “Jackson” from the biopic “Walk the Line,” about a quickie marriage that has cooled, as their movie duet (see video above). Judge Lionel Richie applauded Laci’s sassiness as well as the pair’s comfort in doing the song together.
But Katy dared to go a step farther, as she stated, “Yeah, I would say you guys are connected. I’ve never seen you smile that large, Laine. I’d be wondering if something else … listen that’s what you want people to feel.

What could have been a brilliant show on “American Idol” last night ended up being a series of missed opportunities and bone-headed choices — with just enough fine performances in-between to keep you watching.
Like many, I was looking forward to watching Season 8 runner-up and current Queen front man Adam Lambert help the remaining eight wannabe stars step up their game as they tackle the iconic British rock band’s catalog of songs. But it didn’t take long after the contestants sang “We Will Rock You” during the opening for me to realize that this episode might be a rocky enterprise at best.

Queen frontman and “‘American Idol’ legend,” to quote host Ryan Seacrest, returned to where it all started to mentor the current season’s top eight finalists for a Queen-themed night of hits.
It’s hard to believe that just 10 years ago, Lambert first performed with Queen on the “Idol” stage and began his journey with the legendary band. The story of his rise from reality show star to international rock star will be explored in a documentary airing on ABC Monday night (April 29): “The Show Must Go On: The Queen and Adam Lambert Story.”
Lambert marked the occasion with the debut of a new, long-haired look, which, coupled with a classic poofy shirt, took contestant Walker Burroughs by surprise. “You look like a pirate,” he exclaimed.
Ever the gentleman, Lambert remained unfazed, immediately putting Burroughs at ease for his mentoring session.
As a mentor, Lambert is a true scene stealer.

On Sunday’s “American Idol,” two of the Top 8 contestants were eliminated: Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu. They performed admirably but the competition on Queen Night was just too tough. They fell just short of making the Top 6 who will sing again for America’s votes on May 5. Those leading half dozen vote-getters as revealed by Ryan Seacrest are: Alejandro Aranda, Laci Kaye Booth, Wade Cota, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg.(Vote in our ‘American Idol’ Top 8 winner poll.)
We asked you which of the two artists to be sent home was robbed of a place in the Top 6. Your overwhelming pick is Walker, a 20-year-old charmer from Birmingham, who captured a whopping 76% of the vote as of this writing. Alyssa, a 16-year-old talent from Orlando, has registered 24% of the total tally to date. Which of these artists would you most like to have seen avoid elimination and continue in the competition?...

Hey, "American Idol" fans. Happy Sunday. Your top 8 finalists definitely did compete tonight, April 28, 2019, and after it was all said and done, only 6 were left standing. They performed songs from the Queen catalog. Former season 8 runner up and current Queen lead singer ,Adam Lambert, mentored the Idol finalists this week. The viewing audience ,once again, watched Live and voted simultaneously to ultimately vote out two unfortunate contestants. The judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were, of course, on hand, and they still all had the opportunity to use a "save" on one of the singers to keep them in the competition if they got voted out. Tonight's show kicked off with the top 8 contestants performing a group number. They sang one of Queen's very classic hit songs, "We Will Rock You." After that, contestant Walker Burrough hit the stage to sing, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Katy told him,...

American Idol‘s remaining eight finalists took on some of Queen’s greatest hits on Sunday, and by the end of the night, only six were left vying for the throne. But eight solo performances do not a two-hour event make, so Idol‘s final eight were also paired up for a series of (mostly successful) duets from other artists.

During Katy Perry‘s critique of Madison VanDenburg for “American Idol’s” Queen week, the pop star judge paraphrased one of the most infamous movie quotes of all time when she declared, “No more wire hangers!” The line comes from the classic B-movie “Mommie Dearest” (1981), which starred Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford, the iconic Hollywood actress and overbearing mother of her daughter Christina. The film went on to “win” Worst Picture of the Decade at the Razzie Awards. In case you’re unfamiliar with this viral movie moment, in which Joan berates Christina for having wire hangers in her closet, you can watch the video clip above.

You can vote up to 10 times per method for each of the remaining eight contestants. This means you can cast up to 30 votes for each and every artist that you want to see continue in season 17. All you have to do is click “save” each time that you change your choices.

Things are not looking good for “the sauce.” After failing to earn the support of the “American Idol” audience during Top 14 week, Alyssa Raghu had to be saved by judge Katy Perry. Then in Top 10 week Alyssa was the last singer deemed safe by host Ryan Seacrest (though those results were in no particular order). Now, on the eve of Top 8 night, Alyssa once again seems to be on the bubble as she has leading 1/4 odds of being eliminated, according to Gold Derby’s exclusive predictions. If that happens, will the judges use their final save on Alyssa?

Alyssa Raghu is all but certain to face elimination on “American Idol” this Sunday according to the results of our poll of viewers. She was the last artist revealed to make the Top 8 on last Sunday’s Disney Night episode. And she has earned only a measly 2% in our survey of “American Idol” fans heading into Queen Night on April 28.
The other contestant joining her in the bottom two is likely to be Walker Burroughs who merited a mere 3% in our poll results. Each can only avoid elimination if they are saved by judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie who can invoke this power just one time in season 17.

The “American Idol” Top 8 will sing Queen songs and also duet with another contestant on a movie tune as they vie for your votes on Sunday April 28. Only six of them will make it to the next stage of the competition and continue on in their quest to be crowned season 17 winner. Early favorite Alejandro Aranda, whose audition video went viral, is far out front in our viewers poll. But while he still takes a commanding 39% of the total tally, Laine Hardy has jumped up to 22% support.
The only other contestants to crack double digits in our power rankings are Wade Cota with 11% and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon at 10%. Laci Kaye Booth and Madison VanDenburg each have a lucky 7%. The two contestants all but certain to be sent eliminated on Sunday’s show are Walker Burroughs (3%) and Alyssa Raghunandan (2%).

Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu are likely to leave “American Idol” this Sunday according to our survey of viewers. They rank the lowest among the Top 8 with Walker earning only 3% of the vote in our poll while Alyssa is last at 2%. They will only avoid elimination if they are saved by the judges.

One day after “American Idol’s” Disney night, the Top 8 singers of Season 17 held a private listening session for journalists and influencers at EastWest Studios in Hollywood. All of the finalists gave acoustic performances for the intimate crowd, including Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon who had completely lost his voice that day. (Perhaps Katy Perry‘s sea witch Urusula was to blame?) Even voiceless, Jeremiah delivered a haunting rendition of The Beatles‘ “Blackbird” that proved why he’s one of the front-runners to join the “American Idol” winners list (watch above).

Ten years ago Adam Lambert took the stage during Top 8 week of “American Idol” and gave a haunting performance of “Mad World” that’s still making fans cry to this day. Adam’s stripped-down rendition of the Tears for Fears song from the April 7, 2009 episode is considered by many to be one of the best in the history of the reality TV show. It is always sad to watch contenders dismissed at this point in “American Idol” since each person in the Top 10 is a talented individual. But after seeing each being saved by a judge last week, it felt more hurtful as Uche’, who perhaps should have picked a song from anything but “A Goofy Movie,” and Dimitrius Graham, who seemed to pin his hopes on that last note of “You’ll Be in My Heart,” were let go in the final seconds of Sunday’s show.
One can understand why Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan would withhold saving them again, since they already gave them a second chance. But with such a top-notch Top 8, you could see why they wanted to keep the save in their pocket for later.

The Disney songbook includes dozens, if not hundreds, of iconic tunes from the past eight decades. “I 2 I” from “A Goofy Movie” is not one of them. Unfortunately, Uche found this out the hard way during “American Idol’s” Disney night when he was eliminated following his performance of the song that judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan and guest mentor Rebel Wilson had never heard of before. In other words, Uche really goofed up.

Hey, American Idol fans. Tonight is bad news for any of you who were fans of Uche and Dimitrius Graham because they unfortunately weren't good enough to make the cut tonight. Tonight's Live show was the very first show to actually go live from the west coast to the east coast. The viewing audience watched and voted simultaneously. Then when the show was all said and done, the votes were tallied up and the results were revealed. The top 10 contestants had to all sing classic Disney songs. Bless their hearts. The three judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were on hand. The contestants were mentored by funny actress Rebel Wilson. The judge's "save" was back in play. So, they had the option to save any of the contestants that needed it. To get the night started, Uche hopped on stage to sing the song titled, "Eye to Eye" from a Goofy Disney movie.
