Back in 2023, more than a decade after the release of Ryan Reynolds’ infamous Green Lantern movie, James Gunn announced his plans for a Max series, Lanterns, focusing on the Emerald Knights. Although not much has been revealed about the potential show, rumors have floated around regarding the casting choice.

Recently Netflix released the first season of 3 Body Problem, based on the book of the same name by Chinese science fiction writer Liu Cixin. This novel and its two sequels in the 2000s made Cixin the most popular author in his country.
With such fame, a movie adaptation was only a matter of time. The creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, took over the development of the adaptation.
3 Body Problem Was a Good Sci-Fi Show, But Not a Masterpiece
Before its release, there were many concerns about whether the series would be at least somewhat interesting: the book seemed too complicated, and Benioff and Weiss tarnished their reputations with the ending of Game of Thrones. 3 Body Problem turned out to be not perfect, but very exciting – a little rushed, but addictive from the first minutes.

Screenwriter Tony Spiridakis wasn’t familiar with the Museum of the Moving Image’s Marvels of Media Festival — which celebrates the work of mediamakers with autism — before penning his star-studded film Ezra, about parenting a child on the spectrum. But he quickly became a supporter after MoM founder and former AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan reached out.
“[The festival] understands the power of empathy and the undeniable beauty of diversity,” says Spiridakis, who now sits on its advisory board alongside Ezra director Tony Goldwyn. “It shows the unfiltered, authentic expression that comes from the unique perspectives of autistic mediamakers, something Hollywood and all artists can benefit from.”
Marvels of Media, taking place until tomorrow in Queens, joins the ReelAbilities Film Festival, which runs April 3 through 10, and is hosting Ezra’s New York premiere on opening night. Both of the film festivals are dedicated to disabled filmmakers and narratives showcasing characters with a disability.

Christian Bale once teamed up with Matthew McConaughey for the 2002 feature Reign of Fire. But being such a CGI-heavy film, Bale felt it would’ve been easy for the cast to look a bit ‘foolish’ doing the project.
Christian Bale once opened up about his experiences on ‘Reign of Fire’ Christian Bale | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Reign of Fire was a 2002 fantasy film that saw Bale playing a warrior protecting his community from dragons. But when Bale was initially offered the part, he admitted that he was reluctant to do the movie. He was partially concerned that the feature wouldn’t live up to expectations special-effects wise.
“I needed convincing, really. I could see that this could be the movie that it has turned out to be, that it could be a great idea. But you’re looking at a script. I have no pictures of a dragon, nothing whatsoever. And...

Congressional representatives Rashida Tlaib and Jamaal Bowman introduced the proposed Living Wage for Musicians Act on Thursday, aimed at increasing streaming royalties for musicians online.
The resolution, created in partnership with the United Musicians and Allied Workers union, calls “for economic justice and fairness in streaming,” a release from Tlaib’s office reads.
Per the release, the act “would create a new streaming royalty, with the aim to compensate artists and musicians more fairly at a penny per stream when their music plays on streaming services.”
The report goes on to say that streaming has grown to represent 84 percent of recorded music industry revenue, but that Spotify, the leading music streaming platform, only pays an average per-stream royalty of $0.003, meaning an artist must reach 800,000 monthly streams to equal a full-time $15/hour job.

The fifth episode of Masters of the Air was one of the most intense chapters in the tapestry of the whole show. Egan was back and willing to go on another mission, and it was clear he didn’t care if he survived. He just wanted to drop another bomb and make the Germans pay, partly because they had taken his dear friend Cleven away. The change in attitude was the most striking, as Egan went from something of an idealistic man to a reckless figure who just wanted to deal damage, irrespective of what he was damaging. The newbies also got a taste of the missions; there was a panic, and Rosenthal, one of the newest recruits, saw what he had signed up for.
Spoilers Ahead
Why Had Egan Returned?
Egan’s return implied that another mission had been planned, and while Blakely was on his way back from the Bremen mission,...

Masters of the Air is primarily a show about the sheer horror men had to face during World War 2. Germany had the Luftwaffe, which had some serious firepower, but America had the Eighth Air Force, which was making tactically brilliant decisions by dropping their bombs right where it would hurt the German war effort the most. In the previous episodes, we had seen the harrowing scenes at the high altitudes, and yet the new episode begins with enthusiastic men, including Cleven and Egan, who get ready for a long flight right into the heart of darkness.
Spoilers Ahead
What Plan Did The Eighth Air Force Make?
A lot of good men had lost their lives in the previous mission; hence, a strategy was needed to make the next mission a success. It was doing nobody any good to put in an effort without actually succeeding in bombing the German sites of interest.

Mission accomplished: Not only did the Emmys end on time, but several times throughout the telecast, it was actually ahead of schedule. Variety caught up with Emmys telecast producers Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay on Tuesday morning — just hours after wrapping the event — and all three felt gratified and relieved to have pulled off an Emmys befitting the kudocast’s 75th anniversary.
“Our intention was to create a love letter to television and to sprinkle in the reunions and the nostalgia throughout,” said Harmon. “It was received the way that we hoped it would be, so we’re glad it made everybody happy.”
Added Collins: “There was a definitely a little anxiety going into it, because we took some swings. It was ambitious and we were like, ‘Is this actually going to work?’ But we felt good about it in the end.”

Host Anthony Anderson and his mother, Doris Bowman, had quite the time at the 2023 Emmys on Monday.
Anderson announced last week that his mother would be attending television’s biggest night with him and that he and the producers were looking for “smart ways to incorporate her” in the evening’s festivities.
What they found was that, instead of the awards show’s notorious play-off music, Bowman would be the one letting people know when their acceptance speeches were going over the allotted time, and she did her job so well that the broadcast ended exactly when it was supposed to.
Jennifer Coolidge, who received the Emmy Award for best supporting actress in a drama series for The White Lotus, was the first person Bowman had to warn that time was up. Anderson’s mother put up a cardboard sign with a drawing of a clock on it and a red “X,...

Let’s be honest, what’s your all-time favorite dragon movie? Is it Dragonslayer? Dragonheart? Q: The Winged Serpent? Maybe it’s an animated feature like How to Train Your Dragon or Raya and the Last Dragon? No matter what your answer is, the unpopular opinion remains, Rob Bowman’s 2002 popcorn flick Reign of Fire is one of the most underrated movies featuring the mythic fire-breathing beasts. Never mind the fact that the flick boasts a lowly 39 Metascore and 42% Rotten Tomatoes score, the grim dystopian world-building, excellent visual effects, and big-d*ck swinging performances from Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale remain a ton of fun to behold. Of course, Reign of Fire had the misfortune of running into the far more potent cinematic behemoth, Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which largely overshadowed the movie’s mild commercial success and eventually relegated the film into obscurity at worst,...

FX’s Fargo season five episode eight, the season’s penultimate episode, is one of the series’ finest hours of storytelling. It opens with Ole Munch (Sam Spruell) punishing Gator (Joe Keery) for his innumerable acts of cruelty, topped off by the murder of Ole’s elderly mother.
Gator tries to bribe Ole into letting him go, but Ole doesn’t care one iota about promises of women, weapons, or cash. Tied to a chair, Gator can only whimper and beg as he realizes Ole’s about to take a red-hot knife to his eyes. An eye for an eye, correct? “This for that,” says Ole, adding, “What is taken must be given.”
Over at the Tillman Ranch, Dot (Juno Temple) is back in the game after a brief moment of despair at the end of episode seven.

After being expelled from Congress on Friday, ex-Rep. George Santos (R-New York) remained defiant and said he would file ethics complaints against four former GOP colleagues and one Democrat, who voted to remove him.
Before the vote, Santos contended that his opponents were “bullying” him to force him out of Congress and vehemently denied the accusations outlined in the House Ethics Committee report, which denied any wrongdoing on his part.
He refused to resign and stated, “If I leave, they win. If I leave, the bullies take place. This is bullying.”
As his potential last action in Congress, Santos filed a resolution to expel fellow New Yorker, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-New York).
The resolution is in response to an incident where Bowman allegedly pulled a fire alarm in a House office building. If the expulsion resolution is pursued, it would necessitate a vote within two legislative days.

Despite what Hollywood wants us to believe, not every movie ever made needs a sequel. This did not stop the studios from trying their hardest to churn them out, leaving movie fans with only one solution: forget the sequel exists. It’s a useful technique, but, ironically, it doesn’t work on the worst films. We can say to each other, for example, that Highlander II: The Quickening never happened all we want. In our broken, battered souls though, we know it exists. And it sucks so much. The memory endures, like a cinematic kidney stone.
Trying to forget works best on sequels so middling, or cynically shoveled out that there’s not much for our memories to grab on to. If we do remember them, it’s with a befuddled “how the hell did that happen?” or a “they got A-list actors for that?” kind of awe. And then we forget about them again.

Black-ish alum Anthony Anderson and his mom Doris Bowman (aka “Mama Doris”) are teaming up to host Fox’s new midseason music-centric guessing game show We Are Family. The mother and son duo are replacing previously announced Jamie Foxx and his daughter Corinne, who are unable to host the show due to a scheduling conflict for Foxx, not a big surprise following all the strike-related production changes and delays. He is still set to executive produce the series, which will premiere Wednesday, January 3.
Showcasing non-famous relatives of celebrities performing duets with their hidden famous family member, We Are Family will feature a studio audience entirely comprised of 100 contestants playing through multiple rounds of clues and gameplay to win up to $100,000 each by correctly guessing which celebrity the performer is related to before they are revealed.

“Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson and his mother, Doris Bowman, are once again teaming up to host another game show together. The son-and-mother duo have been announced as the new hosts of Fox’s upcoming music gamer “We Are Family,” which premieres Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Anderson and Bowman replace Jamie Foxx and his daughter Corinne Foxx, who had previously been announced for “We Are Family.” Jamie Foxx continues as an executive producer on “We Are Family,” as he presumably recovers from a medical condition that he was hospitalized for earlier this year. Jamie Foxx also hosts another music game show, “Beat Shazam,” for Fox (with Corinne Foxx as the show’s DJ), but Nick Cannon filled in as host, and Kelly Osbourne guested as DJ, for episodes that aired this summer.

On Thursday morning, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-New York) appeared at the D.C. Superior Court and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for pulling a fire alarm when there was no emergency.
The misdemeanor will be dropped if the representative follows the conditions of a deal, which includes three months of probation, a formal apology to the officers of the U.S. Capitol and a $1,000 fine.
On Wednesday, Bowman said in a statement, “I’m thankful for the quick resolution from the District of Columbia Attorney General’s office on this issue and grateful that the United States Capitol Police General Counsel’s office agreed I did not obstruct nor intend to obstruct any House vote or proceedings.”
“I am responsible for activating a fire alarm, I will be paying the fine issued, and look forward to these charges being ultimately dropped,” he added.

On Saturday, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-New York) triggered a fire alarm in the House Cannon office building, which Republicans believe was an effort to delay a vote on a stopgap spending bill.
House Democrats were attempting to stall a vote on a spending measure to keep the government operating for another 45 days. Bowman pulled the alarm just minutes after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) introduced the bill. The legislation eventually passed 335 to 91, with more Democrats in favor than Republicans.
In a statement released on Saturday night, Bowman, a former high school principal, claimed that he did not pull the alarm to delay the vote, but that it was triggered as he was rushing into the Capitol.
“I am embarrassed to admit that I activated the fire alarm, mistakenly thinking it would open the door,” he explained. “I regret this and sincerely apologize for any confusion this caused. But I...

Dave B and Sango share many common threads – including their Seattle roots, strong musical influences from family members, and, most importantly, their mutual admiration for each other’s work that led to their collaboration. What started with a few Dm’s and a handful of shared beats evolved into the two of them in Dave B’s mom’s house carving out their niche in Seattle rap. This episode of Visit Seattle’s Music Genesis series explores the individual musical styles of Dave B and Sango, their collaboration, and their...

In February, Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene called for a “national divorce” between red and blue states. Now, she’s taking her call for a schism even further by encouraging states to outright “consider seceding from the union.”
On Monday, Greene (R-Ga.) wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that “if the Biden admin refuses to stop the invasion of cartel led human and drug trafficking into our country, states should consider seceding from the union.”

New York, Aug 28 (Ians) Covid-19 viral variants can evolve about three times faster in deer than in humans, according to a study that documented at least 30 Covid infections in white-tailed deer in the US that were introduced by humans.
The study, published in the Nature Communications, showed that white-tailed deer across Ohio, US, have increasingly been infected with Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.
Scientists collected 1,522 nasal swabs from free-ranging deer in 83 of the state’s 88 counties between November 2021 and March 2022.
More than 10 per cent of the samples were positive for the Sars-CoV-2 virus, and at least one positive case was found in 59 per cent of the counties in which testing took place.
“We generally talk about interspecies transmission as a rare event, but this wasn’t a huge sampling, and we’re able to document 30 spillovers. It seems to be moving between people and animals quite easily,” said Andrew Bowman,...

From fire-breathing beasts to benevolent nature spirits, dragons are present in the myths of nearly every single culture. And while popular media has mostly defaulted to traditional western fantasy drakes instead of exploring the extensive mythology behind East Asian and even Central American dragons, it makes sense that there’s an overabundance of stories featuring these legendary reptiles.
Fortunately, there are still some innovative storytellers willing to come up with fresh takes on familiar monsters, and one of my favorite draconic reinventions happens to be Rob Bowman’s post-apocalyptic creature feature Reign of Fire, an underrated early 2000s gem that was only a couple of drafts away from greatness.
While the end result was undoubtedly a product of its time, the story behind Reign of Fire begins in the mid 90s with an unrecognizable spec script written by Kevin Peterka and Gregg Chabot. This early version of the story followed...

Harvard’s legacy admissions — also known as affirmative action for privileged white kids — has been challenged by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Supreme Court ruled last week that Harvard’s admissions process, which factored race into decisions about which candidates to accept, was unconstitutional. The college is still allowed to consider whether applicants are relatives of alumni, though, which has led a civil rights group to file a complaint in light last week’s decision.
Lawyers for Civil Rights filed the complaint on Monday, alleging that admitting applicants based on whether their relatives attended the university violates the Civil Rights Act. “Each year, Harvard College grants special preference in its admissions...

The Story: Nine years after the disappearance of astronaut Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea), Discovery One mission overseer, Heywood Floyd (Roy Scheider) is given the opportunity to take part in a joint U.S-u.S.S.R mission to see what went wrong. The Players: Starring: Roy Scheider, Helen Mirren, John Lithgow, Bob Balaban and Keir Dullea. Music by David Shire. Written and directed by Peter Hyams.
The History: Crafting a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey sounds like a fool’s errand. Being that it’s one of the most acclaimed films ever made, in order to be judged any kind of success the sequel would have to be some kind of masterpiece. In 1984, director Peter Hyams,...

Marjorie Taylor Greene reminds Americans every day that she doesn’t have much concern for things like decency, democracy, or reality when going about her business in Congress. She instead plays the role of a conspiracy theorizing carnival barker, pushing hate and spewing lies to distract from how badly her party’s approach to governing — or lack thereof — is failing the United States.
She reminded Americans of all of this again on Thursday, holding a stunt press conference to announce that she is introducing articles of impeachment against President Biden.

Congressmen Hank Johnson (D-Ga) and Jamaal Bowman (D-ny) have reintroduced the Restoring Artist Protection or Rap Act, a legislation that, if passed, would limit the use of song lyrics for use in criminal proceedings.
The bill’s proponents — including music executives from the Recording Academy and its Black Music Collective — say using lyrics in criminal trials discourages freedom of speech and that the Rap Act is a necessary change to shield artists’ freedom of expression.
“This legislation is long overdue,” Johnson said while announcing the act’s re-introduction on Thursday.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse's casual date night turned into an unexpected engagement celebration on April 15. While attending the Hawks–Celtics game in Boston, Mintz-Plasse was caught on the kiss cam with his new fiancée, photographer Britt Bowman.
During the game, the kiss cam panned over to Mintz-Plasse, eliciting cheers from fans. Silently asking the cameraman to wait, he caught the crowd by surprise when he lifted Bowman's hand, gently pulling her into the frame to show off her massive diamond engagement ring. Beaming, Bowman wiggled her fingers and leaned in to give her fiancé a sweet kiss. Mintz-Plasse then blew a kiss at the audience and pumped a celebratory fist in the air. Before the camera panned away, he seemingly mouthed, "I love her," making the moment even sweeter.
"Boston you're always a Lit Ass Time," Mintz-Plasse captioned footage from the kiss cam moment on his Instagram account. "I love you see you soon.

When casting the hottest action stars for John Wick: Chapter 4, Scott Adkins was a natural choice. Director Chad Stahelski has tried to get Adkins into all the John Wick movies, but due to scheduling conflicts it hasn’t worked out until now. Cast as Fat Killa in the new movie, Adkins is almost unrecognizable under the heavy makeup, gold grill, and fat suit. In real life, Adkins is devilishly handsome, so much so he often plays villains. He’s also built like Adonis but even more yoked. It’s a body he’s earned through a lifetime of martial arts practice.
In real life, the Adkins family are butchers by trade. Adkins was born and raised in England, and his first exposure to martial arts began at age 10 with Judo. When he was 13, he was the victim of a robbery, and that experience hardened his resolve. After that, he dedicated his life to training,...

Science fiction easily lends itself to incisive cynicism about our future. It's understandable. Sci-fi is just one tool creators have to pull out today's big issues and blow them up into a scenario that we can consider from a distance. Still, too much grim introspection creates a feedback loop of depression when breakthroughs happen. We begin to think about robot apocalypses and unstoppable viruses, tech magnates going supervillain, and "Black Mirror" episodes coming true. Sometimes our paranoia is unfortunately justified, but we earn a chance to make it better.
This form of sci-fi is meant to be cautionary, not depressive, but we've all been going through a lot lately, and it's hard not to feel the weight of the world getting heavier. So let's have a nice day for once and look at some science fiction movies that leave us happier than we were before we pressed play. These are...

Much of the conversation surrounding this year’s Best Limited Series Emmy race is focused on Netflix, partly because it produced the most recent winner in the category (“The Queen’s Gambit”), but also thanks to its robust slate of one-off shows that aired during the 2021-2022 season. Among these is “Anatomy of a Scandal,” a legal thriller centered on an effort to hold a British politician accountable for his abhorrent actions. Showrunner/executive producer/writer Melissa James Gibson and cast members Michelle Dockery, Rupert Friend, Sienna Miller, Naomi Scott and Josette Simon recently sat down with Edith Bowman for a 2022 Emmys FYC panel during which they expounded on the importance of the show.
