Deadpool, Gru and his minions and other favorite characters dominated Super Bowl ads this year, but there were plenty of other streaming-related ads during the Big Game!
The Super Bowl is over, and now football fans face the long, dark offseason. However, the Super Bowl did give viewers of all types some exciting things to look forward to. There is a sizeable audience segment who tunes into the Big Game not for the action on the field, but for the ads shown during commercial breaks. The average Super Bowl commercial cost $7 million this year, and many media companies like Disney, Paramount, and others tried to put their best feet forward by dazzling audiences with ads for big-name movies and top streaming services.
Disney+, Pluto TV, and of course Paramount+ all had prominent ads during the Big Game, showcasing the top content available on each service and hinting at what’s to come in the future.

With all due respect to “The Good Fight,” the new Paramount+ Super Bowl spot starring Patrick Stewart may be the finest thing Paramount+ has ever done.
The one-minute, 58-second “Hail Patrick” ad, from creative agency Droga5, is the 15th commercial in the “A Mountain of Entertainment” series. Paramount+ first introduced “Paramount Mountain” three years ago at Super Bowl Lv; Stewart was waiting for his colleagues at the summit back then.
Those ads were…not great — but “Hail Patrick” undoubtedly is. In it, Stewart is in the trenches at base camp but still the group’s leader, which tees up a double meaning to the commercial’s title.
We open on Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa attempting to toss a grappling hook to the top of Paramount Mountain. It falls a bit short. This is, after all, a mountain of entertainment; it is no easy task.

What can one do when stuck on the metaphorical Paramount Mountain other than sing with Creed?
On Wednesday, Paramount Plus shared their fever-dreamish Super Bowl commercial starring Drew Barrymore, Patrick Stewart, Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, Peppa Pig, and Arnold from Hey Arnold as they figure out how to get over a snowy mountaintop.
“If it were a football, I’d be able to reach the top,” Taogvailoa says after throwing an anchor.
“What about a football-shaped head?” suggests Stewart, looking at Arnold from Hey Arnold. “We throw the child.”

An absolutely bonkers new Super Bowl commercial from Paramount+ features a wild cast of Creed, Patrick Stewart, and Drew Barrymore, alongside cartoon characters Arnold (from Hey Arnold!) and Peppa Pig, among others.
The clip, titled “Sir Patrick Stewart Does a Hail Arnold,” also boasts Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Survivor host Jeff Probst, and Reno 911 star Thomas Lennon, as well as Dora the Explorer, Sonic the Hedgehog‘s Knuckles, and Halo‘s Master Chief.
All of the aforementioned celebs and characters are trapped at an icy canyon on Paramount Mountain. Their solution is to have Stewart throw Arnold and his “football-shaped head” to the top of the mountain with a rope so they can all climb up.
While the celebs debate whether they should “throw the child,” we hear the opening guitar strums of Creed’s “Higher,” as we see Barrymore look over to see Creed’s Scott Stapp and...

The state of the streaming business can be summed up in the very beginning of the new Super Bowl commercial for Paramount+: “On Paramount Mountain, the stakes get higher.”
With the streaming business at a tipping point, as Netflix pulls ahead of the pack and everyone else is scrambling to turn a profit, Paramount Global is betting that the single biggest TV event of the year, the Super Bowl, can help propel its streaming business over the metaphorical peak.
It’s part of what Domenic Dimeglio, executive VP, CMO and head of data for Paramount Streaming, calls in an interview “a huge moment, not just for Paramount+, but more broadly for Paramount streaming.”
Paramount+ will stream the big game, hopefully driving new subscribers (though it will not be exclusive, like Peacock’s NFL wild card play), but the company is also using the game to launch new campaigns for its two streaming platforms.

Wondering about Tua Tagovailoa‘s personal life? We’ve got the details!
The 25-year-old Miami Dolphins quarterback is married!

The superstar, who is now in his fifth year with the team as the NFL season kicks off, has been notoriously private about his romantic life, and even addressed a radio host’s leaking of the marriage news as “almost disrespectful” during a press conference.

One of the most exciting games of the season is taking place on Saturday, Jan. 13, but it might be a little bit more difficult for fans to find than a normal NFL Playoff game. Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa fantasy owners have been waiting for this all summer. The 2023 Miami Dolphins season is nearly here, and begins on Sunday, Sept. 10 when the team heads to California to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on CBS.
The Dolphins will play more than half of their games on CBS this fall, and Sling TV doesn’t carry CBS at all. It also doesn’t carry Fox in the Miami area. This means Sling TV isn’t the best choice for Dolphins fans looking to catch every game this year.
As mentioned, Sling TV doesn’t carry Fox in the Miami area, as it’s only available in these other major markets across the country:
Atlanta Austin Chicago Dallas/Fort Worth Detroit Gainesville Houston Los Angeles Milwaukee Minneapolis/St. Paul New York Orlando/Daytona/Melbourne Philadelphia Phoenix San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose Seattle Tampa/St. Petersburg Washington,...

Quarterback Jameis Winston played his college ball at Florida State University. As a freshman, he won the Heisman Trophy, becoming one of the youngest players to win the award. After his sophomore season, he declared for the 2015 NFL Draft. He was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the first overall pick.
Winston set several franchise rookie records for the Buccaneers that season. But he had ups and downs during his tenure with the team including a three-game suspension in 2018 after an investigation found that he inappropriately touched a female Uber driver. The Bucs decided not to re-sign Winston in 2019. He then went to the New Orleans Saints where he has alternated between a backup and starter.
Through all the highs and lows in his professional career, one woman has been by the athlete‘s side. Here’s more about Winston’s wife Breion Allen.

Football season is now well under way for the year, but on Sunday night, John Oliver had just one thing to say about it: Maybe it shouldn’t exist at all.
Though Oliver’s main segment for the night was about crime reporting, the late night host did what he always does, and managed to sneak in the extra, somewhat off-topic dig pretty smoothly, even tying it back to the topic at large. In this particular case, Oliver had called up footage from a 1995 CNN package, wondering if reporting so often — and so viscerally — on crimes was necessarily a good thing.
In the footage, a local chief of police argued that it’s possible that by giving so much attention to crimes and graphic scenes, a person wanting to die by suicide might go out of their way to do it publicly. “We would have, like, a TV show called ‘Suicide Today,...

John Oliver took a jab at the NFL on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, going as far as saying the sport shouldn’t exist.
The HBO show’s host focused his main segment on crime reporting, noting how local TV news spends a disproportionate amount of time on crime stories, and took the opportunity to criticize the NFL during the segment.
“There is already primetime programming where people kill themselves for our entertainment — it’s called Monday Night Football,” he quipped. “Happy concussion season football fans! It sure feels like this sport maybe shouldn’t exist.”
His comments come in the wake of an injury sustained by Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who appeared disoriented and was stumbling after being slammed to the ground during a Sept. 25 game. Tagovailoa, who was said to have suffered a back injury, was cleared of any head...

John Oliver called out the National Football League (NFL) during Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight on HBO and HBO Max. The theme of the night was crime reporting and the comedian took a swipe at Monday Night Football following multiple concussions from Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
“There is already primetime programming where people kill themselves for our entertainment, it’s called Monday Night Football,” he joked. “Happy concussion season football fans! It sure feels like this sport maybe shouldn’t exist.”
Oliver’s dig comes as the NFL alongside the NFL Players Association completed their review of the concussion protocol following Tagovailoa’s injuries on the field. Tagovailoa suffered an injury during a September 25 match where he struggled to walk after taking a hit. The football player was later cleared to play the following week where he once again showed symptoms of having a concussion following another tackle.

The NFL and the NFL Players Association on Saturday issued a joint statement in the aftermath of the investigation into the application of the Concussion Protocol involving Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Although the investigation in that case remains ongoing, the NFL and Nflpa have acknowledged that “modifications to the Concussion Protocol are needed to enhance player safety.”
“The Nflpa’s Mackey-White Health & Safety Committee and the NFL’s Head Neck and Spine Committee have already begun conversations around the use of the term ‘Gross Motor Instability’ and we anticipate changes to the protocol being made in the coming days based on what has been learned thus far in the review process,” the joint statement read.
Furthermore, the NFL and Nflpa say that they “have not made any conclusions about medical errors or protocol violations.” This statement comes after earlier in the day the Nflpa fired the neurotrauma consultant who...
