An overly chatty Alexa might want to get an agent, seeing as the creator of Next says that the smart home device helped sire Fox’s new fall drama.
“My son has an Alexa in his room, and one morning he was looking very tired [and] he was like, ‘Alexa started talking to me at 3 am.’ That happened a couple of times,” exec producer Manny Coto (24: Legacy) shares in the video above — which, yes, was shot one year ago at the San Diego Comic-Con (in San Diego), hence the now-discomfiting references to crowded elevators and bus stops [shudder]. “That immediately...

Now standing as its own entity, Fox can do what it pleases when it comes to new series pickups.
Four new dramas, a live-action comedy, and an animated comedy currently please Fox. Let's take a looks at the dramas!
A serial killer drama titled Prodigal Son, an AI drama called Next, a police drama titled Deputy, and an adaptation of Australian drama Sisters have all gotten series orders.
Considered a good companion piece to the recently renewed Empire, sudser Filthy Rich starring Kim Cattrall is still in contention and deals are underway.
Deptuty comes from Will Beall and eOne and Fox Entertainment studios. Deputy stars Stephen Dorff and is a modern cop drama that blends the spirit of a classic Western with a modern-day attitude and gritty authenticity.

Jason Butler Harner (Ozark) is set as a lead opposite John Slattery in neXT, Fox’s AI thriller drama pilot from 20th Century Fox TV.
Written on spec by Manny Coto and directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, neXt is described as a propulsive, fact-based thriller grounded in the latest A.I. research. It features a brilliant but paranoid former tech CEO, Paul Leblanc (Slattery), who joins a Homeland Cybersecurity Agent (Fernanda Andrade ) and her team to stop the world’s first artificial intelligence crisis: the emergence of a rogue AI with the ability to continuously improve itself. Marrying action with a layered examination of how technology is invading our lives and transforming us in ways we don’t yet understand, the series also presents us with a villain like we’ve never seen before, one whose greatest weapon against us is ourselves.

Oscar voters love to reward the makeup artists and hairstylists who transform some of Hollywood’s most famous faces into historical figures. Since the competitive category of Best Makeup and Hairstyling was introduced at the Academy Awards in 1982, eight films in which performers portray famous folks have won this Oscar. Adam McKay‘s “Vice,” a sly satire on the life and times of politician Dick Cheney, is poised to be the ninth to do so.
Over the two hour plus running time of “Vice,” Christian Bale portrays Cheney from his early years in Wyoming to his eight years as vice president. The actor gained 40 plus pounds and shaved his head to look like the man who was second in command during some of the darkest days in American history.
It is no surprise that Bale is tipped to take home his second Oscar. Also nominated are Amy Adams, who portrays...
