A Saturday Night Live “Wayne’s World” sketch may have set the boundaries for how comedians handled the president’s children on the show. After apparently making fun of President Bill Clinton’s daughter Chelsea, Mike Myers ultimately apologized for the joke.
Myers penned an apology letter and SNL creator and producer Lorne Michaels also apologized. “We felt, upon reflection, that if it was in any way hurtful, it wasn’t worth it,” Michaels said. “She’s a kid, a kid who didn’t choose to be in public life.”
So what did Myers and sidekick Dana Carvey say about 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton?

The 1992 “Wayne’s World” sketch focused on how Wayne (Myers) and Garth (Carvey) ranked “babe-a-licious” Vice President Al Gore’s daughters. “If they were a president, they’d be Babe-raham Lincoln,” the duo said.

Sam Bushman wears many hats. All of them scream extremist.
Bushman is the new CEO of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association — a far-right group, with far-reaching influence, that preaches that the nation’s sheriffs have authority to judge the constitutionality of laws, and to block enforcement of any they deem objectionable.
Bushman is also the owner of Liberty News Radio, a right-wing radio and podcast network that provides a soapbox for white separatists, including airing shows that platform former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke and Charlottesville Unite the Right rally organizer Jason Kessler.

Two years after signing a landmark deal that kept her at MSNBC but reduced her workload to one hour of live TV each Monday, Rachel Maddow stepping back from the hustle of a nightly cable news show is looking a lot less relaxing than it did on paper. She has filled the void left by those four weekly episodes of The Rachel Maddow Show — must-see TV for the panicked American progressive — with podcasts, an aggressive Hollywood development slate, her fourth book (Prequel: An American Fight Against Fascism, out Oct. 17 from Crown) and a new outlook on how to best share her deep well of historical and political knowledge with her loyal following. “Producing the same kind of material for the same shaped box at the same time every day had me worried that my brain was getting squished into that box, too,” says Maddow, who turned 50 in April. “I was...

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton blasted supporters of former President Donald Trump, particularly in the wake of the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
“Maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members… and sadly, so many of those extremists, those Maga extremists, take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure,” she told CNN. “He’s only in it for himself.”
While Clinton predicts that Trump will likely be the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, she believes Joe Biden will be able to beat him a second time.
In an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Clinton said, “One will wreck our democracy. One violates the law on a regular basis. One appeals to the worst in our collective psyche. The other gets things done… Why is that a hard choice?”
She also commented on the current Republican leadership race in the House of Representatives,...

Hillary Clinton, the former first lady, senator, secretary of state and Democratic party presidential candidate, can now add another feather to her cap: Emmy winner.
Clinton, along with her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, were executive producers of the Netflix documentary In Her Hands, a film about the youngest female mayor in the history of Afghanistan, which on Thursday night was awarded the Emmy for politics and government documentary during the second evening of the 44th News & Documentary Emmy Awards.
At the ceremony, which the Clintons did not attend, it was not publicly revealed which individuals would be receiving statuettes for winning projects. But David Winn, head of the News & Documentary Awards for The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, confirms to The Hollywood Reporter: “As executive producers on the film, [Hillary and Chelsea Clinton] are considered statue eligible.”

Hillary Clinton warned Americans that Vladimir Putin will attempt to meddle in the upcoming 2024 election.
“I fear that the Russians have proved themselves to be quite adept at interfering, and if he has a chance, he’ll do it again,” she shared during an interview on Inside with Jen Psaki.
Clinton spoke about how she feels that Russia’s interference in U.S. elections is not talking about enough.
“I don’t think, despite all of the deniers, there is any doubt that he interfered in our election, or that he has interfered in many ways in the internal affairs of other countries, funding political parties, funding political candidates, buying off government officials in different places,” Clinton said.
She continued to assert that Putin “hates democracy” and “he particularly hates the West and he especially hates us. And he has determined that he can do two things simultaneously. He can...

President Joe Biden paid tribute to “Margaritaville” legend Jimmy Buffett Saturday following news of the singer’s death at the age of 76.
“A poet of paradise, Jimmy Buffett was an American music icon who inspired generations to step back and find the joy in life and in one another,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House.
“His witty, wistful songs celebrate a uniquely American cast of characters and seaside folkways, weaving together an unforgettable musical mix of country, folk, rock, pop, and calypso into something uniquely his own.

Former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Julia Sweeney revealed on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s “Fly on the Wall” podcast (via Entertainment Weekly) that Hillary Clinton was so upset over the show’s portrayal of her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, that she personally “wrote a letter” to showrunner Lorne Michaels. Sweeney played a teenage Chelsea in a January 1993 episode, with Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks playing Bill and Hillary, respectively (see photo above).
“People were saying how unattractively I was playing Chelsea, and all I did was not wear makeup and put braces on,” Sweeney said. “If you say that, you’re saying I’m unattractive!”
Sweeney maintained that she “wasn’t trying to play [Chelsea] unattractive,” but that doesn’t mean targeting someone’s child on national television was a smart idea. Clinton’s letter expressed her disapproval over the sketch, the cast member said. Variety has reached out to Clinton’s representative for comment.

On June 2, The Atlantic published a deeply reported look at the rocky tenure of Chris Licht, who took over as chair and CEO of CNN Worldwide last year. The colorful 15,000-word profile features his unvarnished opinions, as well as intimate access, including a morning session with the polarizing executive’s physical trainer, who Licht refers to as his “one-man focus group.”
Staff writer Tim Alberta drew out his subject over a period of months, during which an embattled Licht has dealt with a series of tumultuous episodes at CNN, including anchor Don Lemon’s departure and a poorly received town hall event with former president Donald Trump. The article portrays a brash manager struggling to lead the news division of a media conglomerate amid widespread distrust among his rank-and-file while also catering to the whims of his own fickle, meddling boss: Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav.

Warner Bros. Discovery is turning to a veteran of the company to help bolster CNN’s leadership team.
On Thursday the company announced that David Leavy, currently Wbd’s chief corporate affairs officer, will become COO of the news brand, reporting to CNN CEO Chris Licht.
Leavy is a 23-year veteran of Discovery Inc., having been one of CEO David Zaslav’s top deputies during his entire run as CEO, overseeing corporate operations.
In his new role at CNN, Leavy will oversee commercial, operational and promotional activities. He will also continue to oversee and maintain public policy and social responsibility for Wbd going forward, in addition to his CNN duties.
With his new role, Licht will presumably spend more of his time overseeing CNN’s programming, talent development, and journalism.
“David’s deep operational experience, institutional knowledge and key industry relationships perfectly complements the strengths of our leadership team,” said Licht in a statement.
