Robert Linn(1925-2019)

Composer, pianist, arranger and educator Robert Linn earned Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees at USC where he served on the faculty since 1956 and, since 1961, as assistant professor of music theory and composition. He studied with Darius Milhaud, Halsey Stevens and Roger Sessions. During World War II, he was a member of the 660th Army Air Force Band, and was treasurer of the National Association of Composers and Conductors (1959-1961) and its vice-president (1961-1962). Joining ASCAP in 1960, his compositions include "March of the Olympians" [1961 Winter Olympics comm., CBS theme], "Clarinet Sonata", "5 Pieces for Flute, Clarinet", "String Quartet No. 1" [1st prize, NFMC], "3 Madrigals" [1st prize, NFMC], "Overture for Symphony Orchestra" [Louisville Orch. award], "String Trio", "Adagio and Allegro for Chamber Orchestra", "An Anthem of Wisdom" [Friends of Music; USC comm.], "Olympic Anthem", "Theme of the Master Plan" [USC comm.], and "Saxophone Quartet".
