Madrid — Greater than fiction. Viewed by an estimated 5 billion, the most watched event in TV history, and the climax of the most popular sport on earth, no achievement compares in epic terms to Argentina’s victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Yet soccer, as Atletico de Madrid manager Diego Simeone famously has it, is played match by match. It is won moment by moment. No doc feature to date perhaps captures the ever evolving drama of Argentina’s campaign – the flux and flow of psychological advantage, the huge emotional stakes, the roll call of protagonists, and the multiple narratives of universal resonance emerging moment by moment – than “Soccer Soul” (“Elijo Creer”), narrated by Ricardo Darín, star of Oscar-winning “The Secret in Their Eyes” and dropped by HBO Max on Jan. 11 in Argentina and the rest of Latin America.
It begins with the defining moment of the whole 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic were among the most searched athletes via Google in 2023.
The results perhaps come as no surprise, considering Alcaraz and Djokovic dominated the biggest Atp competitions in 2023. Overall, the duo won all four Grand Slams between them, but Djokovic edged his Spanish competitor by winning the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and US Open compared to Alcaraz's Wimbledon victory.
However, the pair were not just among the most searched tennis players worldwide, and they ranked sixth and seventh among the most searched athletes this year.
Other tennis players also featured in the most-searched list from Google and the analytics, revealed some interesting queries for the best tennis players.
Damar Hamlin topped the list of most-searched athletes ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Travis Kelce, with Djokovic being the sixth most-searched athlete while Alcaraz was right behind him in seventh.
The final trends from 2023 show a slight change from earlier in the year.

Two sporting immortals rubbed shoulders on Monday during the 67th annual ceremony of the Ballon d'Or at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Novak Djokovic , the best in tennis, met Argentina's football superstar, Lionel Messi, who was crowned the best men's footballer in the world for a record-extending eighth time, beating Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and Psg winger Kylian Mbappe to the prize.
Djokovic and Messi warmly embraced on the red carpet just before the ceremony and the pair were in fine spirits to be able to see each other for a second time. The Serbian star met the Argentine football wizard for the first time during a Psg match in June while competing at Roland Garros.
Djokovic has expressed his admiration for Messi in the past, notably, after the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Messi was key in Argentina securing the trophy a year ago, with Djokovic calling a...

Carlos Alcaraz drew a lot of interest this year with his amazing performances, so much so that he actually eclipsed Novak Djokovic in the most searched athletes list.
Carlos Alcaraz has been a known name for over a year now because he won the US Open last year, which certainly helped. This year, however, he expanded his Grand Slam tally by beating Djokovic at Wimbledon , which in itself is a huge deal.
Think of the importance Wimbledon carries in the tennis world, and you'll quickly realize why Alcaraz might have been the most searched tennis player all year. He's also a new player who carries a lot of new excitement as opposed to Djokovic, who has been here for years.
The most searched athlete in the world was obviously Cristiano Ronaldo, who is far above anybody else. Neymar came in second, with Lionel Messi coming in third, and that's not a huge surprise.

Novak Djokovic has ranked the highest from all tennis players on the annual list of the most marketable athletes.
Every year, SportsPro releases a list of the most marketable athletes in the world. Last year, Serena Williams ranked second behind Cristiano Ronaldo , but the American is not an active player anymore.
Ronaldo also dropped on the list, to place number 27, as his biggest rival, Lionel Messi, took the top spot. However, this year, there were no tennis players in the Top 10, as the Argentinian was followed by LeBron James, Alex Morgan, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Megan Rapinoe, Mikael Shiffrin, Lewis Hamilton, Simone Biles, Kylian Mbappe, and Max Verstappen.
Yet, right after the Top 10, multiple tennis players found their spot. Novak Djokovic, who was the highest-ranked tennis player placed 11th, getting 87.96 out of 100 points. The Serb got 27.26 out of 35 for his brand strength, 41.97 out of 45 for total addressable market, and 18.73 out of 20 for economics.

Updated, 8:15 Am: Img has locked a series of international broadcast deals for the Saudi Pro League’s (Spl) 2023/24 season.
The confirmed deals span over 130 territories, including what has been described as a “landmark deal” with Dazn in multiple territories as well as Sport TV (Portugal), La 7 (Italy), Marca.com (Spain), and Canal+ (France). Starting from this season, Img will also produce the live world feed, including graphics and English commentary.
The full list of broadcast deals set for the 2023/24 Saudi Pro League are: A1 Bulgaria / Max Sport (Bulgaria), Canal+ (France & French overseas territories), Cosmote (Greece), Dazn, La 7 (Italy), Marca.com (Spain), Prima Sports (Romania), Setanta, Sport TV (Portugal), and Supersport (Albania & Kosovo).
Outside of Europe, rights were picked up by Sony/culver (Indian Sub-continent), Azteca (Central America & Mexico), Spo TV, Sporty TV (Nigeria & Ghana), Azam (East Africa), Band Group (Brazil), Bilibili (China), Goat (Brazil), Kball (China), Migu (China), Network Ten (Australia), StartTimes (Sub-Saharan Africa incl. South Africa), Tencent (China), Zap (Angola & Mozambique), and Zhibo8 (China).
“These agreements come at a time of genuine growth for Saudi Arabian football, with growing interest in the Roshn Saudi league from football fans all around the world,” said Saad Allazeez, Saudi Pro League interim CEO. “The watching world can now enjoy front-row seats as Saudi football transforms, and thanks to the Saudi Pro League strategy, football fans around the world will be able to watch promising young talent from the Kingdom competing and playing with some of the biggest names in world football.”
Previously, 4:23 Am: French pay-tv giant Canal+ has acquired French and African rights for the Saudi Pro League for the coming two seasons.
The announcement for the deal late Tuesday came just days ahead of the kick-off for the 2023-24 season on Friday (August 11), which will feature 18 clubs and run until May 2024.
Canal+ will air two matches a week while highlights will also be featured in its wider sports programs such as Canal Football Club.
The accord comes amid growing buzz around the Saudi soccer league following a flurry of high-profile international signings topped by Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Riyadh-based Al Nassr at the end of 2022.
Img, which was brought into sell international rights for the remainder of the 2022-23 season following Ronaldo’s arrival, is also handling deals for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 season.
The new French deal marks a step up from an agreement struck with Altice France’s Rmc Sport channel midway through the 2022-23 season for select matches featuring Ronaldo.
The Saudi Pro League’s upcoming season is likely to spark particularly strong interest in France thanks to the raft of French players in its ranks.
Former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kanté are with current champions Jeddah-based Al-Ittihad.
French-Ivorian player Seko Fofana, who has played for both national teams, and Senegal’s Sadio Mané play alongside Ronaldo at Al Nassr.
Other players in the league with a strong French following include Senegal’s Kalidou Koulibaly, Serbia’s Sergej Milinković-Savić and Portugal’s Ruben Neves, who all play for Riyadh-based Al Hilal.
The latter club is reported to have courted Psg’s Kylian Mbappé earlier this summer, but without success for now, while there were reports this week that teammate Neymar could be mulling a move to the club.
“We are very happy to be able to offer this brand new football championship exclusively for Canal+ subscribers,” commented Canal+ Director Of Sports Thomas Sénécal.
The Canal+ soccer offering also includes the UEFA Champions League, the UK’s Premier League, the D1 Arkema French women’s football league and France’s Ligue 1.

New Delhi, Aug 7 (Ians) Kylian Mbappe will not train with the Paris Saint-Germain first-team squad when they step up preparations on Monday for the start of the Ligue 1 season as his contract dispute with the club continues.
Psg begin their French title defence at home to Lorient on Saturday and it is understood Mbappe will train with the ‘loft’ group rather than the ‘A’ training group, which is players who could feature for the first team, BBC reported.
The 24-year-old French captain, who still has one year remaining on his contract, is unwilling to renew his contract with the club. Therefore, Psg is eager to prevent losing Mbappe on a free transfer and, as a result, they have put him up for sale to secure a transfer fee.
As a result, the French star was also left out of the Psg squad for the pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea.

Madrid (Spain), July 27 (Ians) Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has said he doesn’t need any more signings ahead of the coming season.
Ancelotti’s remarks were aimed at the recent rumours of a possible pursuit of Paris Saint Germain’s Kylian Mbappe, after goals from new arrivals, Jude Bellingham and Joselu gave Madrid a 2-0 win over Manchester United in their American tour, reports Xinhua.
“The squad is good as it is. We are full,” said Ancelotti, who preferred not to answer direct questions about possible interest for the French international.

The fatal shooting of a 17-year-old by a police officer in Nanterre, France earlier this week has set off a swath of nationwide riots and violence, resulting in early closures of some cinemas, curfews in certain cities and a plea for calm from the national football team, among more widespread issues.
The killing of the teenager, who has been named only as Nahel M., occurred on Tuesday morning. He was fatally shot in the chest, point-blank, at the wheel of a Mercedes for driving off during a police traffic check. The officer who fired the shot has been detained while being investigated on a charge of voluntary homicide.
Nahel M was of Algerian and Moroccan descent, and anger over the shooting is rooted in decades-long complaints about police violence and persistent feelings of neglect and racial discrimination in France’s poorer urban suburbs, as the New York Times has written.

The current flood of football documentaries shows no sign of abating; the recognition certain teams and individuals enjoy means that it’s not likely to any time soon. Geoff Hurst, the hat-trick hero of the 1966 World Cup final, is no doubt a natural subject for the “legacy” strand of these things: along with the likes of Jack Charlton, Bobby Moore and Bobby Robson, Hurst stands for a misty-eyed idea of Proper Football, when men were gods on the pitch and ordinary semi-dwelling blokes off it.
Hurst was all this and more, even if this profile focuses, football-wise at least, on that three-goal game at the expense of almost everything else. (Though that title might need a bit of nudging since Kylian Mbappé pulled...

Berlin, March 18 (Ians) Bavarian icon Thomas Muller might be one of the world’s best joke-tellers. After most of the 33-year-old’s jokes, a loud laugh can be heard.
Ahead of the last-eight round of the UEFA Champions League, things might be slightly different after the German striker flippantly guessed: “No team will shout hurray when having to face Bayern Munich.”
It seems more than a bold guess that neither Muller nor his teammates at Bayern Munich are overwhelmingly amused by having to meet their former coach Pep Guardiola and the Spaniard’s current team Manchester City, reports Xinhua.
After the Bavarians eliminated Paris St. Germain in the previous round, the next hard nut to crack is waiting.
Guardiola failed to win the Champions League with the Bavarians, but three times ended up in the semifinals.
While Bayern earned respectful comments for beating Paris and their superstars Kylian Mbappe and 2022 World Cup champion Lionel Messi,...

WME has acquired full ownership of BDA Sports Management, which has built up a formidable client list of NBA players during its 25 years in business.
BDA founder Bill Duffy will join WME Sports as head of its basketball division and BDA agents, staff and clients will be under the WME umbrella after the official close of the deal.
In 2020, WME had taken a minority position in BDA, which was founded in 1998 and has repped many top-tier players, among them 30 NBA Draft lottery picks, 44 All-Stars and 15 winners of an NBA title. BDA’s current roster includes more than 40 NBA players, among them Luka Dončić, Scottie Barnes, Rj Barrett and Deandre Ayton.
“It is hard to name a basketball agent more respected across the league than Bill. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have him and his team fully join WME Sports as we continue this chapter of tremendous growth,” WME...

Berlin, March 9 (Ians) Bayern Munich’s victory over French giants Paris St Germain could trigger a wave of success for the Bavarians.
The 3-0 in aggregate against Psg in the last-16 round has opened doors for big dreams based on a wide range of realism, reports Xinhua news agency.
“If we keep on acting with that will, passion, and robustness, we will be hard to beat,” Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann said.
The Bavarian coach’s statement was far from exaggeration but contained a newly grown taste of confidence.
The team seems to have grown together, including the coach, and the side managed to overcome doubtful times on the national and international stages.
Paris superstar Kylian Mbappe respectfully mentioned that “Bayern has built a team to win the Champions League.”
Matthijs de Ligt might be one of many examples causing optimism Bayern has adopted a lionhearted approach next to the individual quality of its players.

Berlin (Germany), March 9 (Ians) Bayern Munich advanced into the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals after seeing off Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 (3-0 on aggregate) thanks to second-half goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry in the second leg of the last 16 on Wednesday.
Paris Saint-Germain (Psg) made a bright start as Kylian Mbappe raced down the left wing before testing Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer with an attempt from a tight angle following a fast break with only two minutes played.
Both teams looked afraid to concede and focused on defence, with goalscoring opportunities remaining at a premium, reports news agency Xinhua.
Bayern created their first clear-cut chance with 15 minutes gone when Leon Goretzka’s low shot from distance called Psg goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma into action.
The visitors had their biggest opportunity to restore parity in the 38th minute but Matthijs de Ligt blocked Vitinha’s shot after Sommer was dispossessed in his own box.

Berlin (Germany), March 7 (Ians) Tension seems omnipresent around Bayern Munich’s offices and training pitches. The second leg of the last-16 round of the UEFA Champions League at Munich this Wednesday seems to have turned into the season’s most important encounter.
Not only coach Julian Nagelsmann announced the outcome is going to decide about good or bad when it comes to this campaign’s evaluation. After the disappointing exit against underdog Villareal in the last-8 last season, the Bayern coach is said to stand under close supervision.
Despite the 1-0 victory in Paris, the 2020 treble winners’ concerns couldn’t be greater as unpleasant memories are alive about the 33 minutes in mid-February when recovered Kylian Mbappe turned up and single-handedly changed the game’s pattern.
A fair amount of fortune again seems required to kick the can down the road on home soil as Bayern’s back row line-up has become a delicate puzzle.

Berlin (Germany), Jan 27 (Ians) It might have been the explicit intention of Sadio Mane to let pictures send out a convincing message of hope.
After all, not only the photographers at Bayern Munich’s training ground seemed pleased to see the 30-year-old Senegal star back in action.
With temperatures around the freezing point, two months after his leg injury, the striker delivered the expected pictures containing hope and determination.
His message seemed striking to everyone: The race to make it back for the delicate last 16 duels in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain on February 14 and March 8 has started.
Constantly smiling, the former Liverpool star carried out his running session persisting in the low temperatures in the winterly Bavarian atmosphere.
Without wearing a warming beanie, he had his tracksuit bottoms rolled up as if it was a pleasantly sunny springtime day. Leaving the locker room, Mane enthusiastically spread his arms,...

Berlin (Germany), Jan 25 (Ians) Three weeks ahead of the delicate duel against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, the mood around Bayern Munich has hit rock bottom.
As if the painful loss of keeper Manuel Neuer wasn’t enough, disappointing league results and additional cases of indiscipline increased the tensions.
The Bavarians not only saw their lead shrink in the race for the national title after two draws against Leipzig and Cologne, but team internal procedures seem to get out of hand.
While Neuer suffers from a broken leg after a careless ski vacation at the end of December 2022, forcing the 2020 treble winner to invest nine million euros for replacement Yann Sommer, an insensitive trip of Serge Gnabry between two important games is bringing emotions to the boil, reports Xinhua news agency.

Pierre-Antoine Capton, the CEO of Mediawan who recently engineered the company’s high profile acquisition of Brad Pitt’s Plan B, said both companies have already started working together on some projects.
“We are working on our first development and co-production projects between Plan B and our French companies, and these are happening organically,” said Capton on stage at the day-long conference organized by French TV and film promotion org Unifrance.
“It’s very interesting for everyone, and producers (from Mediawan) who now have access to Plan B’s teams are raving about the level of standards that a company like Plan B has, being an independent production company which has won the most Oscars with such quality projects,” Capton continued. “We have a lot to learn and I think it will benefit our French ecosystem,” he added.
