Even though studios have mostly abandoned straight-up comedies on the big screen, there have still been plenty of laughs to be found in the cinema of 2022. In fact, some of the year's biggest laughs came from movies that you wouldn't immediately classify as comedies. Horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and even a couple prestige dramas vying for awards came accompanied with some truly hilarious moments. A couple of these movies may even be funnier than some full-fledged comedies that hit theaters and streaming this year. But no matter what genre the laughs came from, we wanted to round-up some of the funniest scenes we saw in movies this year, and we hope they bring you just as much laughter as they brought us throughout 2022.

The One Show hosts left wincing at Ian Hislop’s controversial joke: ‘We leave politics to your show’
The One Show hosts managed to keep the show on track after Ian Hislop and Paul Merton cracked a risky joke.
Hislop and Merton are both known for making political quips on Have I Got News For You, with Hislop having been a team captain on the BBC programme since its inception in 1990.
During their recent interview with Alex Jones and Ronan Kemp, however, the pair made a joke that put everyone in the studio on edge.
The duo were asked how they come up with content for Have I Got News For You, to which they explained the hosts usually “know what’s gonna come up” meaning that they can plan around it.
Hislop continued: “Except when something absolutely bizarre happens, like Liz Truss is Prime Minister – then you’re on your own.”
After a moment of silence, Merton added: “Oh did you feel that nervousness that went around the room then.

In the first, he’s the charming husband to Florence Pugh in “Don’t Worry Darling,” with the press tour that keeps on giving. In the second, he portrays a closeted gay police officer in Michael Grandage’s drama “My Policeman” from Amazon Studios, featuring his strongest turn yet as an actor. But is an Oscar nomination in his future?

Have I Got News for You viewers are reacting to Boris Johnson’s “brutal” send-off episode.
As the end of Johnson’s time as prime minister grows nearer, the satirical series recorded a special instalment, titled “Have I Got News for Boris: A Very Special Tribute”, which was broadcast on Friday (2 September).
In true Have I Got News for You style, the BBC series didn’t hold back in roasting Johnson.
Near the beginning of the episode, panellist Paul Merton noted how the BBC had billed the episode as a “tribute”, with Ian Hislop quipping: “Tribute? Funny way to spell ‘good riddance’”. When guest Janet Street Porter stated: “I hope it’s going to be balanced”, Merton replied: “Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.”
Many viewers couldn’t get enough of the episode, which one person branded a fitting send-off”. However, others found the Jack Dee-hosted episode to be disrespectful, and called...

Every dog has their day, and that includes Superman’s loyal companion, Krypto. The animated film DC League of Super-Pets finds the Justice League captured by Lex Luthor. But when a mysterious explosion grants a rag-tag team of shelter pets extraordinary powers of their own, it falls to these unlikely heroes—led by Krypto—to save Metropolis.
“The anchoring narrative is, we have Krypto, Superman’s dog,” director Jared Stern tells Den of Geek. “He’s got all the same powers as Superman. He has a pretty great life. He has the best owner in the universe. But he doesn’t know quite how to be a regular dog. The movie is about Krypto learning to be a bit more of a regular dog and making other friends.”
The movie’s all-star voice cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Keanu Reeves, Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, and Vanessa Bayer,...

“DC League of Super-Pets” opens with a DC Films logo sequence — the full grand corporate prelude, with shuffling dark-toned images of Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. It’s a bit of a surprise to see this super-serious logo kick off an animated caper for kids, even if the film does have “DC” and “Super-Pets” in its title. But then, “DC League of Super-Pets,” though very much a comedy about a scruffy team of critter heroes (it’s based on the DC Comics characters the Legion of Super-Pets), is also a movie that makes room for the famed demigods of the DC universe; it’s a full-on superhero extravaganza. Watching it, what you realize — it’s something we all know but don’t think about too often — is that the gargantuan comic-book movie spectacles that our culture is fatally addicted to are all, in essence, cartoons.

DC League of Super-Pets takes a crack at comic cannon hero and Superman/ Superboy companion Krypto, the super dog. This exceptional film, directed by Jared Stern and starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, shows why DC creates some of the best animated content around.
Krypto made his first comic appearance in Superboy Adventure Comics in March 1955 and was created by writer Otto Binder and artist Curt Swan. He wasn’t supposed to last more than one issue, but his popularity kept the character in canon. He has all the powers of Superman and is often seen fighting alongside the caped hero.
Now, League Of Super-Pets exists in a world that knows about and accepts superheroes. In Metropolis, Superman Clark Kent (John Krasinski) and his dog Krypto (Johnson) continually save the city from danger. With Kent and Lois Lane (Olivia Wilde) growing closer, the dog wonders if he’ll be abandoned,...

If you’re the kind of superhero enthusiast who would like to ask, “Why so serious?” to the gloomy fanboys who live by Joker memes and other grim-and-gritty signifiers, “DC’s League of Super-Pets” is a goofy, colorful throwback to those comic books of the 1950s and ’60s that allowed no costumed avenger to go un-sidekick-ed.
While not as anarchic or outrageously hilarious as “Teen Titans Go! to the Movies,” this latest all-ages animated adventure from DC Comics and Warner Bros. nonetheless has — and offers — lots of fun with the four-legged counterparts of a Justice League that’s more “Super Friends” than Snyder Cut.
We open on the final moments of the planet Krypton, where puppy Krypto (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) hops into baby Kal-El’s spacecraft to join him on his sojourn to Earth. Decades later, Krypto is a devoted ally to Superman (John Krasinski), aiding him against villains...
