Nearly seven years after its release, one of the most controversial scenes in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues to be when Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master and veritable legend, tells the next generation about what the Jedi really represent. While training the franchise’s newest protagonist, Rey (Daisy Ridley), Mark Hamill’s now grizzled and ancient Luke intones, “The Jedi are romanticized, deified. But if you strip away the myth and look at their deeds, the legacy of the Jedi is failure; hypocrisy; hubris.”
The scene wasn’t taken well by some corners of the Star Wars fandom in 2017, and it’s not taken well now. Yet I’ve been thinking quite a bit about it in lieu of Disney+’s upcoming and hotly anticipated new Star Wars series, The Acolyte. Set many decades before the events which brought Rey and Luke Skywalker together, or for that...

“Obi-Wan. Now, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time… A long time.” Every Star Wars fan recognizes that line as one of the first things that the great Sir Alec Guinness says as Obi-Wan Kenobi at the start of A New Hope. For years, these fans have wondered what could have happened to poor Ben to wipe his much cooler name from memory.
While the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi gave fans an answer, it could have been so much worse. Early planning for the follow-up to Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith involved a much darker intro scene for Ewan McGregor‘s fallen Jedi Master, much worse than working on an assembly line cutting up a “sand whale” or living in a cave on Tatooine.
“I said, all I can see is him broken after some time after Episode III and he’s in a really dark place,...

Darth Vader didn't always have a red lightsaber. Early concept art by Ralph McQuarrie (pictured below) shows Vader wielding a blueish-white blade, the same as the Jedi. After all, Vader was always a fallen Jedi (though making him Anakin Skywalker came later).
Lucasfilm/Ralph McQuarrie
Whatever the case, the change to red was the right call. The color complements his black armor better, contrasts with the blue and green blades he duels onscreen, and radiates evil. Symbolically, red is also the color of both anger and blood. The red lightsaber is such a memorable part of Vader's presence that when the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy came around, all the Sith Lords there had red lightsabers too. Ergo, red became the de facto color of evil lightsabers.
We first see a lightsaber when Ben Kenobi (Alec Guinness) gives one to Luke (Mark Hamill), saying the blue blade belonged to his father.

There's long been this narrative that some "Star Wars" fans are mad that "The Force Awakens" threw out George Lucas's ideas for the continuation of the Skywalker Saga and that it doesn't really have anything to do with him. And while there was a version of the stories from George Lucas' blueprint that would have delved deeper into the Whills and midi-chlorians, the brunt of ideas that we were presented with in the sequel trilogy came right from Lucas' brain. From Luke's turn from the Force to the character of Rey and many points in between, "The Force Awakens" is a mirrored reflection of many of George Lucas' early ideas going straight back to the early drafts of the screenplay for "A New Hope."

In 1977, when Darth Vader struck down Sir Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope," audiences new to the rules of this galaxy far, far away figured this was the last we'd see or hear of the old Jedi master. So when he spoke to his mentee, Luke Skywalker, in the cockpit of his X-wing fighter during his incredibly tense trench run, well, it's a wonder the young man didn't freak out and put his spacecraft into the wall like a spacebound Dale Earnhardt. I always thought the old man should've given Luke a heads-up prior to the assault on the Death Star, just to let him know he might drop by with some disembodied pointers if things got a little hairy.

It takes a lot of sacrifice to become a Jedi Knight. You must train in the ways of the Force and be a model guardian for justice. Most importantly, a major tenet of the Jedi Order is to pass down all that you have learned to the next generation. The rule of master and apprentice is the key building block that keeps the foundation of the Jedi Temple from falling down on top of Jocasta Nu's head. There is also the art of learning how to design and wield your very own lightsaber.
Obi-Wan learned from Qui-Gon, Ahsoka learned from Anakin, Luke learned from old Ben Kenobi and Yoda. And Luke told Rey to leave him alone. But wannabe Force users learned how to use their lightsaber from another teacher: Mavra Zane. If you were a "Star Wars" fan and a nimble gamer during the spring of 2012, chances are you...

The optics of Obi-Wan Kenobi's plan for hiding Luke Skywalker after the rise of the Galactic Empire and his father's turn to the dark side have always been ... let's just say sketchy. To be fair, "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" went a long way in justifying Obi-Wan taking Luke to live with his aunt and uncle on Tatooine, as it revealed the boy's old man, Anakin/Darth Vader, had no idea he was even alive. That and Obi-Wan knew Vader would have little reason to revisit his backwater home planet, a place that holds lots of bad memories for him.
Still, was changing his name to "Ben Kenobi" really the best idea Obi-Wan could come up with? Perhaps "Kenobi" is a much more common surname in the "Star Wars" galaxy than we know. Or perhaps I'm just overestimating how much interest a middle-aged hermit who goes...

Alec Guinness's complicated relationship with "Star Wars" is well documented. Depending on his mood, he'd either call that first film "a marvelous, healthy innocence" or "fairy-tale rubbish." The intense fandom that was inspired by the 1977 original film played a role in alienating the classically trained actor who wished to be known for nuanced portrayal of Shakespearean characters instead of a space wizard, but once "Star Wars" released, his performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi became a career-defining part and Guinness had no say in the matter.
Reports differ on Kenobi's fate in that first film. What fans had heard for years was that Guinness forced that decision on Lucas because he thought the movie was a stinker and he wanted to be killed off, but in J.W. Rinzler's incredible "The Making of Star Wars," George Lucas says that was a decision he himself came to very late in the process.

This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
As we dust off our best beskar armor and head to the Great Forge on Mandalore, The Mandalorian is poised to deliver the biggest finale of the show’s three-season run. More than just the inevitable battle between Moff Gideon and Bo-Katan Kryze — presumably with the latter riding in on a Mythosaur, right? — fans are also predicting a villainous reveal that would rock Mandalore to its core.
Since her arrival in The Mandalorian premiere, Emily Swallow’s stoic Armorer has become a staple of the series despite never revealing her face or true name. While there have been plenty of theories about which famed Mandalorian is presumably hiding under the majestic horned helmet, “The Spies” might’ve just set up an Armorer twist for the ages.
As a quick refresher, “The Spies” featured the Armorer’s covert and Bo-Katan’s forces journeying...

Nothing is more entertaining than hearing Harrison Ford grumpily answer "Star Wars" questions. By "Return of the Jedi," Ford was pretty much done with "Star Wars." That man was over it, which is a big reason why it was such a coup for J.J. Abrams to get him back for "The Force Awakens."
However, there was a time before Ford got tired of the fandom where he'd speak pretty openly (and positively) about his experience instead of grumbling an insult or sighing through a canned answer to a question he's gotten a trillion times. One of these occasions was documented by Paul Honeyford in his 1986 book "Harrison Ford — A Biography" in which he quotes Ford from an interview the actor did with Alan Arnold about making "Star Wars." Here's what he had to say:
"It is very hard for me to look objectively at the film. It's George's creation. He...

Believe it or not, clones and the concept of clone armies have existed in the Star Wars universe since the very beginning, going all the way back to when old Ben Kenobi made a reference to the legendary Clone Wars in 1977. Back then, this line delivered by Sir Alec Guinness was just a bit of classic George Lucas worldbuilding, an insinuation that the galaxy far, far away was much bigger and had way more history than what you were watching on screen. There was so much more happening out there beyond the deserts of Tatooine.
It wouldn’t be until 2002 that Lucas finally brought in the clones in question (although Leigh Brackett’s original draft of the script for “Star Wars II” introduced Lando as one of the last of these mysterious clones back in the late ’70s). The suitably titled Attack of the Clones,...

The core cast in George Lucas' original "Star Wars" trilogy is one of the most famous and enduring adventure squads in all of pop culture. Each character fulfills an essential fantasy archetype, yet brims with personality. Obi-Wan Kenobi, for example, acts as the mentor to hero Luke Skywalker, his compassion and wisdom serving as a model for the protagonist to follow on his spiritual journey. Luke's ties with Kenobi make it especially tragic when Obi-Wan meets his demise at the hands of enemy Darth Vader, which is why it's probably for the best that Lucas didn't spare his life in "A New Hope" as he had originally planned.
"Star Wars" today is a massive franchise with three separate trilogies and a host of television series, but Lucas was taking it one step at a time in the very beginning as he initially wanted his gigantic original story to fit into one film.

No one needed “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
The Star Wars limited series on Disney+ was always going to tread familiar territory, picking up with the aging Jedi (Ewan McGregor) between events of “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope.” Most characters’ fates were known between existing Star Wars shows and movies, which arguably lowered the show’s narrative stakes — but ultimately increased its emotional impact.
The final episode is as strong a case as any for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” to remain a one-season wonder. The show is six episodes of galactic therapy for fans and characters who spent years reconciling what happened between “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope,” but it neatly threads that needle and doesn’t need to continue. McGregor may not reprise this character or utter the words “Hello there” ever again, but it is a satisfying sendoff that leaves the character with something resembling catharsis.

Ya gotta feel for Ms. Marvel. Not only is the show introducing a brand-new character to the MCU, but Disney+ has put it up against none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi during its first three episodes. News that only 775k US households watched the premiere in the first five days of release comes as no surprise. Compare that with another Marvel premiere that was considered to have a more muted response, Hawkeye at 1.5 million, and at first glance you would consider this bad news. But Ms. Marvel is definitely finding its target audience. The premiere attracted more viewers aged 20-24 than any previous MCU show, with a more diverse audience. In the words of Bruce Banner, I see this as an absolute win, especially considering ol’ Ben Kenobi has been hogging the spotlight.

Pop culture has a lot of reverence for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
His name is shorthand for a mentor figure, and his dignity in the face of death is inspiring.
So it's not surprising many TV shows reference him by name or parody his iconic moments from the Star Wars films.
From Higgins fretting about explaining Luke and Leia to his boys while watching The Empire Strikes Back to Jamie comparing old people to tall Yodas, Ted Lasso Season 2 wasn't shy about dropping Star Wars references.
Ted Lasso was certainly inviting us to make comparisons between the two. Fortunately, there's plenty of comparative material for us to meditate on.
Obi-Wan's line from A New Hope about "...a pupil of mine until he turned to evil..." applies equally to what happens between Ted and Nate as it does to Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship.
Also, like Obi-Wan, Ted kept a big secret from his students/players,...

It’s a lot of people’s lifetimes, whereas Game of Thrones is different.”
Varma had a taste of fandom when she portrayed Ellaria Sand in the HBO fantasy series. But even for all the cultural dominance the series enjoyed for eight seasons, it has nothing on the famed space opera. “So entering into Star Wars, as it’s known globally, is very exciting and quite daunting,” Varma explained.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Episode 1 and Episode 2, “Part 1” and “Part II.”]
If telepathy via The Force exists among “Star Wars” devotees, then around 1 a.m. Et on Friday, they likely shared the same simultaneous thought: “It’s a trap!” At the end of the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” premiere, the eponymous Jedi himself walks into an ambush — an ambush obvious to everyone watching long before the episode confirms as much. After a decade in hiding, Ben Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) makes the difficult and dangerous decision to leave Tatooine. Luke Skywalker, who he’s sworn to protect, is safe. Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair), however, has been kidnapped. What’s a trusty ol’ Jedi to do?
Simple: He’s going to help. As outlined throughout the facile yet efficient “Part 1,” Jedis are duty-bound to do what’s right. Rupert Friend’s Grand Inquisitor illustrates as much in his opening monologue. “Jedi cannot help what they are,...

Obi-Wan Kenobi may not be the man he was in the prequels when the new Disney+ series drops on Friday, but that doesn’t mean he’s the legendary Ben Kenobi of the original trilogy yet either. According to Ewan McGregor, he’s somewhere in between.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” picks up roughly a decade after the events of “Star Wars – Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.” At this point in the story, Anakin Skywalker is deep into his time as Darth Vader, and Obi-Wan is in hiding, as his old padawan has people all over the galaxy hunting for him. He’s still on Tatooine, at least for a little bit, as he looks over Luke Skywalker from afar. And yes, he’s going by Ben Kenobi now. But that’s just about the only thing he has in common with the Jedi we see in “A New Hope.”

The Star Wars canon is nothing if not its own galaxy’s worth of characters, stories, and other information. “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” premiering May 27 on Disney+, brings back the eponymous fan favorite, but that doesn’t mean viewers can rewatch the prequels and call it a day before venturing into this series (many would probably rather not).
The character of Obi-Wan Kenobi has ties to the original Star Wars trilogy and prequels, as well as events and characters from the animated “Clone Wars” and “Rebels” series, both of which are available on Disney+. But if you don’t have time to watch — *checks notes* — 11 seasons of TV ahead of “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” fear not. Here’s a quick rundown of all the characters confirmed for the series, as well as a handful we might see from the wider Star Wars universe.

Let’s face it, things don’t look so good for Obi-Wan Kenobi. The upcoming Disney+ series seems to find the Jedi Master at his lowest point, living in exile after Order 66, hiding from the Grand Inquisitor, and still reeling from his failure with Anakin Skywalker. With increasing reports that the series will show the full horror of the Empire’s rise to power, it’s no wonder that some Star Wars fans are longing for happier times for the future Ben Kenobi.
Fortunately, the new novel Star Wars: Brotherhood returns readers to a slightly longer long time ago, before everything went so wrong for Kenobi. Written by Mike Chen and set shortly after Attack of the Clones, the novel follows Obi-Wan and Anakin’s investigation into terrorist activity on Cato Neimoidia, a hub world in the Trade Federation.

The Book of Boba Fett picks up the threads of the bounty hunter’s untold adventures in the years after Return of the Jedi, paving a new, unexpected path for the fan-favorite rogue. While most Star Wars fans expected the Mandalorian gunslinger to once again embrace a life of crime, no one could have predicted Boba’s big career change from bounty hunter to Tatooine’s newest crime lord.
But this is actually a Boba Fett story decades in the making. After all, writers were already hard at work continuing the book of Boba just mere months after he took a tumble into the sarlacc pit in 1983. Many of those early stories took place in the pages of the classic Star Wars comics published by Marvel in the ’70s and ’80s. This article contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett.
No one said becoming a crime lord on Tatooine would be easy. Yet, Boba Fett thought it would be as simple as killing Bib Fortuna and taking a seat on Jabba the Hutt’s old throne. But as The Book of Boba Fett shows, that road is in fact a very bumpy one.
The new daimyo of Mos Espa expected all of Jabba’s former subordinates to bow down and pay tribute. Not everyone is so easily swayed. In “The Tribes of Tatooine,” Boba and Fennec Shand face quite a bit of resistance from a few unexpected villains. Plus, in the flashback portion of the episode, Boba comes face to face with one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the galaxy.

Holy Sith! Ewan McGregor is slipping back into the hooded cloak of the old wizard we first met back in 1977’s Episode IV—A New Hope, and he’s bringing the franchise’s original baddie with him! Set 10 years after McGregor’s exiled Jedi Master delivered a newborn Luke to Owen and Beru Lars on Tatooine at the end of 2005’s Episode III—Revenge of the Sith, this limited-series adventure, which was first announced in 2019, finds life far from hopeful for old Ben Kenobi and his Force-powered pals. Not only is he still on young Skywalker protection duty, but he also needs to be on guard for his own safety. “There are Jedi hunters out there,” showrunner-director Deborah Chow ominously warns. “This is a dark time we’re coming into.” Not to mention a Darth time too: Hayden Christensen is also returning to screens as the terrifying ...

Some fans thought this day would never come but it’s finally happening: Ewan McGregor is returning to the role of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in a Disney+ live-action series set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith. That means we’ll meet an older Obi-Wan in exile on Tatooine but not quite the same age as Sir Alec Guinness in A New Hope. And the fact that the show takes place during a largely unexplored period in the Jedi’s life should provide some exciting narrative opportunities for director Deborah Chow and writer Joby Harold.
McGregor won’t be the only returning Prequel Trilogy star on the series. Hayden Christensen will also appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi, presumably as Darth Vader, although there’s always the possibility he’ll show up in a flashback or in a dream sequence instead. But even Christensen’s return isn’t quite as notable as...

As it readies to begin filming in April, Disney+‘s Obi-Wan Kenobi has rounded out its cast with a few familiar faces — including two more actors from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Set 10 years after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, in which Ben Kenobi faced his greatest defeat — the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker — the “special event series” brings back Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in those two roles. And as recently announced, Game of Thrones alum Indira Varma will fill an undisclosed role.

Any longtime Star Wars fan knows that the entire fate of the galaxy could have turned out completely differently had young and innocent moisture farmer Luke Skywalker simply made it to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters, which was the original plan much to his Uncle Owen’s chagrin, before he became waylaid after bumping into a certain Ben Kenobi.
Mark Hamill’s delivery of the line was so unintentionally hilarious and bratty that it became an iconic moment in Star Wars lore, which in retrospect was pivotal to the entire Original Trilogy’s storyline. If Luke had disregarded his uncle’s instructions and gone to get the power converters instead of cleaning the droids, he would have never discovered Princess Leia’s message hidden inside R2-D2, which then led him to track down the reclusive Kenobi, before he ended up becoming the savior of the entire galaxy after discovering his destiny.

Who shot first? It’s a question as old as the history of that galaxy far, far away itself, and a debate even more long-lasting than all the other Star Wars controversies combined. But now, Mark Hamill is here to put it to rest by confirming that Han indeed shot first.
When Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi arrived at the Cantina in Mos Eisley, they were looking for a ride out of the planet without the Empire catching on. Fortune really smiled on them when they found smuggler Han Solo and his legendary ship the Millennium Falcon. The scruffy-looking nerf herder offered to help the pair, but not before settling a problem with Greedo, a mercenary who was looking to collect Jabba the Hutt’s bounty on Solo’s head. When the two didn’t reach an agreement, the scoundrel slowly took out his blaster and shot his enemy dead.

Star Wars fans have always had their disagreements over that galaxy far, far away and its stories, though some of these have stood the test of time, resurfacing over and over whenever they get even the most minute acknowledgment. At every turn during the first three Star Wars movies, Boba Fett proved to be an inefficient bounty hunter. After all, he never managed to track down the heroes as per his instructions. But despite that, the character has retained his reputation as one of the most iconic individuals in the story of the Skywalker Saga.
The Mandalorian first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back as one of the Empire’s henchmen, but according to a canonical comic book, he already had a run-in with Luke Skywalker before the events of the film. The writers behind Lucasfilm’s new publishing initiative Star Wars: The High Republic have announced that the narrative, taking place 200 years before the events of the Skywalker Saga, will give us a fresh understanding of the living Force.

Stormtroopers in Star Wars are notorious for having terrible aim. But there may be a reasonable explanation in the canon of that galaxy far, far away as to why they never seem to hit their targets.
As early as 30 minutes into A New Hope, Ben Kenobi talks the Empire up, noting that the Imperial Stormtroopers are known to be “precise” shooters. Except, they miss every time they go up against our heroes for the remainder of the movie. While a running gag among fans, the issue is so wide in scale that even the in-universe media has made fun of their marksmanship every now and again. One such example was the season finale of The Mandalorian, where the two scout troopers repeatedly failed to blast something that was only several feet away.
In fact, one could argue that Palpatine could have easily crushed the Rebellion were it not for his incompetent foot soldiers.

Before we knew him as the sassy general of the Clone Army in the form of Ewan McGregor, Alec Guinness played the wise old Jedi Master Ben Kenobi in the original Star Wars trilogy.

After his heroic feats during the Clone Wars, Kenobi chose a life of exile on Tatooine, all the while protecting Luke from the Emperor and his numerous minions. When you think about it, we’ve heard the popular Star Wars saying “May the Force be with you” countless times from the Jedi or other heroes of the Rebellion, but never from a dark-side practitioner.

Obi-Wan Kenobi became one with the Force in the first Star Wars movie, but George Lucas originally intended to keep him around a little longer.
Ben Kenobi was an integral part of the Original Trilogy, despite the fact that he also played a key role in the Republic era. Serving as Luke’s first mentor, it was Ben who introduced the young Skywalker to the concept of the Force and the Jedi Order. Facing his former padawan one last time, Kenobi decided to sacrifice himself to give the heroes a chance to escape the Death Star. Of course, Alec Guinness would reprise his role as Obi-Wan’s Force Ghost in the next two installments, guiding Luke in the journey to a Jedi Knight.
Apparently, though, George Lucas originally intended to keep Luke’s master in the physical realm a little while longer. Of course, this isn’t anything out of the ordinary.

Perhaps the most surprising element of The Mandalorian‘s season finale was Moff Gideon cutting his way out of the Imperial Tie fighter using the Darksaber.
As Star Wars fans may know, the Darksaber is actually an ancient relic of Mandalore dating back to many eons past. According to legends, it was Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian to join the Jedi Order, who created the weapon. After his death, Mandalorians inherited the saber from generation to generation and cared about its significance so much that they believed a person wielding the Darksaber could unite the clans and bring them together. Relatively, the lore surrounding the artifact is similar to how people inherit the Elder Wand in Harry Potter. In Rebels, Sabine Wren steals it from Darth Maul but when she admits to her mother, Ursa Wren, that she didn’t win it in battle, she says: “Then you have no claim to it.

Ewan McGregor OBE is undoubtedly one of the greatest Scottish actors in history, appearing in a number of acclaimed films and TV shows with a career that spans more than two decades. But we’d be lying if we said he’s mostly recognized as anything other than Star Wars‘ Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The talented Alec Guinness portrayed the stoic and charismatic Ben Kenobi in the Original Trilogy. Wishing to explore his character in the Prequels, George Lucas went on to cast the perfect person to portray Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. And thus, the legend of Ewan McGregor as the ultimate Space Jesus, not to mention an icon of the meme culture, was born. Even after so many years, the actor’s performance as Obi-Wan remains a memorable and fan-favorite part of the Galactic Republic era, which is probably why the Mouse House greenlit a live-action TV show based on the...

One of the things that Star Wars fans hated about The Rise of Skywalker involved J.J. Abrams’ decision to suddenly introduce several new Force powers into the lore, but we may have already seen one of them in play years ago.
In the last movie of the Skywalker Saga, Rey, the last living Jedi, uses Force Healing in several instances. The first time, she uses her powers to heal a snake on Pasaana, thus saving the crew the trouble of facing it head-on. Later in the film, when Rey and Kylo engage in a lightsaber duel on the ruins of the Death Star, the death of Leia gives the former a chance to deal Ben a mortal blow. Realizing that she’s given in to the dark side, Rey quickly uses her powers to heal the wound and save Ben’s life. In the movie’s climactic scene, Ben...

Regardless of the era, lightsabers have always been an inseparable part of that galaxy far, far away and its lore. Apparently, though, Lucasfilm intends to renovate these deadly weapons by introducing a new one in Star Wars: The High Republic.
When Ben Kenobi claimed that lightsabers were “elegant weapons” that belonged to a “more civilized age” in A New Hope, we couldn’t possibly comprehend just how important they’d turn out to be. Much like the living Force, lightsabers are one of the backbone features of Star Wars and its mythology. From the kyber crystals that the Jedi use to power their blue, green, white, and purple sabers, to their crimson-colored counterparts brandished by the Sith, and the peculiar Darksaber, we’ve seen these powerful tools in many shapes and forms over the years. Even Kylo Ren’s unstable crossguard lightsaber was a unique addition in the Sequel Trilogy...

One of the big plot holes in the first two Star Wars trilogies was the fact that R2-D2 served Anakin from the very beginning to the end but didn’t think to tell Luke that Darth Vader was his father.
R2-D2 witnessed almost every pivotal moment in Anakin’s life. From his early years as an adolescent to the moment he turned to the Dark Side, the Chosen One has always had his sidekick with him. R2 was even there for Anakin and Padme’s marriage in Episode II. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, though, Threepio undergoes a complete memory wipe, but R2 gets to retain his knowledge of the Clone Wars and the days before the rise of the Galactic Empire. What Star Wars fans have always wondered then is why didn’t he tell Luke that Vader was his father?
