It’s off to Neverland once again.
Disney+ released the first trailer for its upcoming live-action Peter Pan & Wendy, which puts a new spin on the classic story based on the J.M. Barrie novel and 1953 animated hit.
“We set out to craft a film that honors both the original J.M. Barrie text and Walt Disney’s animated adaptation,” director/co-writer David Lowery said in a statement. “We wanted to invigorate our retelling with emotional sincerity, an open heart and a grand yearning for adventure.”
He continued, “Hundreds of incredible artists spent many years bringing this film to the screen. I’m excited for audiences to see their work, to go on this ride and to rediscover an evergreen tale from a new perspective.”
According to Disney+, Peter Pan & Wendy follows the Darlings once again, as they leave their London home behind when they meet Peter Pan, the boy who never grows up.

Kcet, the Los Angeles public broadcaster, announced the student finalists and eight industry judges who will take part of the 23rd Fine Cut Festival of Films. The festival will broadcast as a series of six one-hour episodes starting Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. on Kcet in Southern California and on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 11 p.m. Et/Pt on Link TV nationwide.
In addition to the student films making their broadcast debut, all winners will have their short films screened as part of a student showcase at the 2022 Newport Beach Film Festival on Oct. 20. Exclusive: George Robinson, the star of Netflix’s Sex Education, is attached to headline the movie Still Life based on the award-winning Texas Monthly 2009 article of the same name written by Skip Hollandsworth.
Still Life tells the true story of John McClamrock, to be played by Robinson, and his mother Ann. The two made a life together within the walls of their small Dallas home after John was paralyzed by an errant tackle on a Dallas high school football field in 1973. John McClamrock’s story garnered worldwide attention and support.
The film will be produced by Jim Whitaker and Jeff Sussman and directed by Samantha Buck and Marie Schlingmann. Scott Brown, Texas Monthly president, Megan Creydt of Texas Monthly, and Kevin James are EPs.
The screenplay, originally by Jon Boyer and rewritten by Buck and Schlingmann, is based closely on the article as well as personal accounts from the McClamrock family.

Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) has scripted the long-gestating buzz project which tells the story of how a series of airplanes mysteriously disappear and reappear while in flight, and a young Faa investigator becomes obsessed with the case. The mystery becomes personal when he finds out that his fiancé is on one of the planes. Writer-director Anvari will also work on the screenplay.
Former Imagine president Jim Whitaker (Flightplan) is producing through Whitaker Entertainment; Lucan Toh, who produced Anvari’s Wounds and Under The Shadow, is also producing; as is Ray, who adapted the project from book Ghosts Of The Air by Martin Caidin.

Nine years before he completed production on the multi-million dollar Disney remake of “Pete’s Dragon,” David Lowery was living out of the back of his car, editing corporate videos. The Dallas native directed his first feature, the little-seen “Lullaby,” at age 19.
