The Hollywood Critics Association, which had recently been hit with allegations of malfeasance and accused of harboring a hostile membership environment, has completed an organizational restructuring that it believes will address those issues. The Hca was set to reveal those plans to its 180 members this afternoon, including a new name: The Hollywood Creative Alliance.
Hollywood Critics Association leader (and We Live Entertainment journo) Scott Menzel, who was at the center of much of the controversy, will still remain as CEO/president, but will be joined by a new board: vice chair Yong Chavez of Abs-cbn; member engagement head Jeandra LeBeauf of Black Girl Nerds; secretary Morgan Rojas of Cinemacy; and treasurer Louis Valentine, an external Cpa who will handle finances as an outside member. The Hca holds several awards shows every year that have been well attended by A-list talent, including ceremonies for both TV and film.

As the summer movie season heated up with splashy red carpets, film critics set Twitter abuzz with complaints about the arrival of social media influencers at the premieres of “Barbie” and Disney’s “Haunted Mansion.”
The actors’ strike has amped up the controversy, with studios looking to find ways to bring excitement to events without stars. But the smartphone-wielding video creators also play into worries about the movie audience’s shifting media habits, as traditional reviews make way for short TikTok clips that play off film soundtracks and outfits.
It’s “weird” to see “influencers do red carpet interviews instead of journalists who have been on their grind for years and years and aren’t allowed the same opportunity,” tweeted independent film critic Shannon McGrew.

A handful of Hollywood Critics Association (Hca) members, including Variety’s senior awards editor Clayton Davis and two other Variety journalists, have resigned from the fledgling awards body over the expulsion of a critic who raised questions about the group’s financial status, fundraising distribution and operations — then took her complaints public.
An individual with knowledge of the resignations told TheWrap that Davis along with senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay and red carpet reporter Angelique Jackson all resigned from the Hca. Kristen Lopez, a TV editor with IndieWire, also announced on Twitter that she resigned from the group.
The dustup has created a rift both within and without the Hca, which evolved from the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society. The org, now with more than 100 members, was created in 2016 as a place to include bloggers, YouTubers and other multimedia journalists not affiliated with mainstream outlets — a group that’s...
