Ishani is a Sri Lankan filmmaker. Her 5 years of experience in producing for TV and short documentaries led her to learn filmmaking.
In 2013, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue her MFA. Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy. After graduating with Honors she is now back in Sri Lanka working on her first feature film.
Her passion is to be a filmmaker whose stories revolve around children, as she believes their voices are mostly unheard and their dreams are mostly erased.
Ishani's short film Kakkutta inspired her to create Project Kakkutta. Project Kakkutta is a volunteer platform that teaches children to tell stories through their passionate medium, it can be music, film, art, dance, math, science etc. Working under the mission; Connect. Educate. Inspire. The project is presently collaborating with the Street Children's Project of World Vision Lanka on a storytelling and filmmaking workshop for children from the streets.
