It’s almost Earth Day, and National Geographic is celebrating the wonders of the planet a bit early this year. The network has released a sneak peek at Secrets of the Penguins, its second installment of the Secrets Of series, and it’s a rare glimpse at some of the coolest creatures on the globe. The footage was shot in January 2024 in Atka Bay on the Ekström Ice Shelf in Antarctica by cinematographer Bertie Gregory. It offers a very rare glimpse of the moment when a group of hundreds of emperor penguin chicks dive off of a 50-foot cliff to have their first swim in the icy ocean. This is an annual tradition called fledging, but ordinarily, the jump is just a foot or two deep. With these particular penguins, their parents decided to breed on permanent ice shelves that are much higher up, and this is the very ...

Video Exclusive: Explorer Bertie Gregory On Tracking Pumas, Whales & Elephants For ‘Amazing Animals’
Wildlife explorer Bertie Gregory shared his most memorable experiences and the innovative technology he utilized in studying animals in the wild in his newest uInterview.
Gregory detailed to uInterview founder Erik Meers his latest series, Amazing Animals, and how he interacted with a puma named Pataka, which he’s known since she was a cub.
He remembered it as “a nostalgic mission in its concept” because “I met her for the first time when she was a cub four years ago and she was this lovely bundle of fluff. It felt like seeing an old friend again.”
Gregory and his team tracked Pataka for 51 days “up and down the mountains” calling it “both a physical and emotional roller coaster.”
Gregory explained that because of his history with Pataka, he feels “emotionally invested” especially when she was fighting a male puma.

Wildlife photographer Bertie Gregory gets cozy with some fascinating friends in Animals Up Close, a six-part National Geographic docuseries that mixes incredible footage from in front of and behind the camera. The 30-year-old Brit says with a laugh, “We document the struggles of the animals alongside our struggles to keep up with them.” Here, the host introduces himself to viewers and previews what’s to come in the docuseries, premiering September 13 on Nat Geo. How did you get into this career? Bertie Gregory: My family is obsessed with the ocean—surfing, sailing. I think when you spend that much time in nature, you gain an appreciation. When I was a teenager, I realized photographing animals that I was obsessed with was a way to get other people excited about them. You also seem passionate about preservation and conservation. That’s what we’re doing [with Animals Up Close]. Our footprint is crushing these animals.

As you may have heard, the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con International was not the usual Sdcc experience.
On July 14, the American actors’ union SAG-AFTRA joined their writing counterparts in the WGA by going on strike and picketing the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for its refusal to grant them a fair deal. Since the details of the strike preclude actors and writers from promoting their union-backed films and TV shows, many of the planned panels, promotions, and guests at Comic-Con had to bow out.
The end result was a Con that very much resembled the event’s earlier days before it became a action item on the calendar for big studios like Marvel, DC, and others to showcase their upcoming blockbusters. And you know what? It was all still pretty cool!

Comic-Con and the Party Report return to a SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike affected San Diego where celebrities avoided the party scene because of guild rules. As a result, EW canceled their annual (and usually star-studded) bash; an indication of a very different year at Sdcc — and on the comic-con parties scene. But the con raged on just the same, so here are TheWrap’s photos from some of Sdcc 2023’s best parties.

The annual Fandom, presented by Paramount+ and Electronic Arts, Z2 and Pinfinity, was easily and clearly con’s best and classiest bash on Thursday night.

Red carpet arrivals were packed with creators, influencers, industry partners, non-SAG talent, musicians and local celebrities. Fandom also hosted a group of children from the Make a Wish Foundation who got the red carpet treatment.

The ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA labor strikes, claimed their first major fan expo victim in San Diego Comic-Con 2023. Last year, the annual geek fest was back in full swing post-covid with the party scene returning with numerous bashes around Comic-Con.
But this year, with Hollywood talent practically forbidden from even attending the event, many brands have pulled out along with big-name party cancellations. Brands who sponsor Comic-Con bashes want Hollywood film and tv stars on their step and repeats. No stars? No brands? No parties.
Comic-Con’s biggest bash via Entertainment Weekly cancelled due to the strikes. IMDb, decided not to go forward with their annual yacht party, but will have a presence this year regardless. The yacht will serve as a floating fan experience and will be docked at Fifth Avenue Landing, directly behind the San Diego Convention Center.
Comic-Con 2023 is going to look like the cons of yore before Hollywood arrived.

Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory follows National Geographic explorer, Bertie Gregory, as he embarks on some of the most daring journeys in the world.
Gregory recently sat down for an exclusive with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss what it was like filming the largest herd of whales ever.
“We went with such an ambitious target. It was definitely the most ambitious expedition I’ve ever run,” Gregory revealed. “That was the big one because that was really what I’d gone to National Geographic with when I was pitching this project. We can go for the biggest gathering of whales ever in Antarctica and they went, ‘Yeah!’ and I went, ‘Oh okay, how are we going to go do it?’ We had a month aboard an ice strength and sailboat across the infamous Drake Passage from South America down to Antarctica.

It may not feel terribly fall-like outside yet, but the TV world is ready to flip seasons. After a few light weeks for premieres, the Sept. 7-13 period is notably busier: The NFL season begins, the Emmy Awards are on deck and there are a good number of season and series debuts across all platforms.
Below is The Hollywood Reporter‘s rundown of premieres, returns and specials over the next seven days. It would be next to impossible to watch everything, but let THR point the way to worthy options for the coming week. All times are Et/Pt unless noted.

This month Disney will be hosting Disney+ Day, which means the streamer’s list of new releases for September 2022 is more jam-packed than usual.
Keeping with tradition, however, the biggest release this month is of the Marvel of Star Wars variety, with Star Wars taking its turn after Marvel did with She-Hulk in August. Prequel series Andor is set to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 21 with three episodes. Starring Diego Luga as the titular rogue, Andor will take place in the time before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Disney has big plans for this property, with an uncommonly large 12-episode order set to run throughout the fall.
Some other big Disney franchises stake their claims with month with Pixar’s Cars on the Road and The Simpsons short “Welcome to the Club” both arriving on Sept. 8. Also premiering that day is the Robert Zemeckis film Pinocchio. Later on, Disney+ will...

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” is moving premiere dates at Disney+ — but not by much.
The Marvel Studios show will now debut on Thursday, Aug. 18 instead of Aug. 17 as originally announced. New episodes of the nine-episode series will drop weekly on Thursdays after that. Tatiana Maslany stars as the titular hero and lawyer, with Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry also appearing in the series.
Furthermore, it has been announced that Season 31 of the competition series “Dancing With the Stars” will make its Disney+ debut on Sept. 19. It was first revealed in April that the long-running show would be leaving ABC in favor of the streaming platform. “Dancing with the Stars” Season 31 will premiere on Monday, Sept. 19, Disney+ announced Wednesday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
As previously announced, “Dancing” is moving from its original home of ABC after 16 years and 30 seasons to the streaming service. It will be Disney+’s first live series. No premiere time was disclosed, but the show aired at 8/7c on ABC. “Dancing” typically launched fall seasons in mid-September and aired on Mondays, so this is familiar territory for longtime fans. The only difference is where they can watch now.
The cast will be announced at a later date (usually late August on “Good Morning America”). Last month, former champ Alfonso Ribeiro joined as co-host alongside Tyra Banks, who is returning for her third season. Judges Len Goodman, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli will all be back as well. Among the changes behind the scenes: Conrad Green,...

A new premiere date and rollout for Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” was announced Wednesday during the streamer’s presentation at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
Instead of debuting on its originally announced premiere date of Wednesday, August 17, “She-Hulk” will premiere Thursday, August 18. The nine-episode comedy series will then roll out weekly on Thursdays, marking a change in strategy.
The move marks Disney+’s continued expansion of its programming schedule. While certain blockbuster series such as “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Ms. Marvel” and “The Book of Boba Fett” debuted new episodes on Wednesdays, Season 2 of “The Mandalorian” delivered new chapters on Fridays, a day Netflix has long dominated with its own new binge releases. “She-Hulk” will be the first Marvel series to drop new episodes on Thursdays.

National Geographic announced a slate of more than a dozen upcoming original programs Monday, all of which are produced by the brand but will debut exclusively on Disney Plus — not on the Nat Geo cable channel. But despite the shift, Nat Geo content president Courteney Monroe promised that it’s not a sign that the Disney-owned brand has completely moved away from linear content.
“I realize that all of my announcements today were for Disney Plus originals, but that in no way diminishes our focus and investment in National Geographic programming for the linear channel,” Monroe told reporters Monday during Nat Geo’s virtual presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “We just so happened to have greenlit a lot of really big, exciting shows for Disney Plus over the last few months, and today, TCA was a perfect opportunity to share them with you.
