Exclusive: More details are emerging about the restructuring in the film division of Fifth Season earlier this week. Along with the change at the top of the unit, with Alexis Garcia stepping down to launch a new venture Fifth Season’s backing and Christopher Slager being promoted to replace him as Head of Film, there were layoffs across the division, sources tell Deadline.
A total of nine employees were impacted, the majority of them in BA as the indie studio no longer will have an in-house BA team. Instead BA services will be outsourced to firms that have larger infrastructure to accommodate a growing development and production slate while also delivering cost savings.
Also leaving as part of the cuts are one creative executive, Janice Lee, VP Film Development and Production, and a VP Physical Production, sources said. Fifth Season’s TV operation was not impacted.

The buzz around “80 for Brady” focuses on its octogenarian stars — Sally Field, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Lily Tomlin — and Tom Brady’s legacy, both of which drove the movie to second place at the box office last weekend. The story of four Brady-obsessed friends who travel to see him play the Super Bowl is charming, bittersweet, and a smart play by Paramount to capture the demographics of older women and NFL fans alike. But its unsung heroes are two young filmmakers best known for a low-budget Cannes hit.
“80 for Brady” marks the directorial debut of Kyle Marvin, who, with Michael Angelo Covino, scripted and starred in the 2019 Cannes hit “The Climb,” which was Covino’s own directorial debut. In 2021, the pair rewrote “80 for Brady” and they now share executive producer credits.
They aren’t part of Paramount’s marketing push, and fair enough. “The Climb”made...

Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, Richard Gere, William H. Macy, Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey are set to star in the multi-generational heartfelt romantic comedy Maybe I Do from Endeavor Content. Writer and producer Michael Jacobs makes his feature directorial debut in the poignant comedy based on his script.
“I got to watch this incredible cast playing characters I think people will love seeing them play,” Jacobs said. “The difficult choices they have to make about what might be the best rest of their lives is something I am hopeful will resonate strongly with the audience.”
The story follows Michelle (Roberts) and Allen (Bracey), who have reached the point in their relationship where they are considering next steps. They decide to invite their parents to finally meet and to offer some understanding of why marriage works. Except the parents already know one another quite well, which leads to some very distinct...
