Michael D. Ratner is being singled out as Storyteller of the Year.
The veteran director, producer and content guru, who serves as founder and CEO of Obb Media, has been tapped to receive the special honors from Project Healthy Minds at the nonprofit’s fundraising gala, set for New York’s Spring Studios on Oct. 10. The timing coincides with World Mental Health Day and the organization’s World Mental Health Day Festival.
The honor comes after Ratner has made a name for himself as a music video director turned documentary storyteller and entrepreneur working with some of the world’s most famous pop stars like Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato. His credits, some of which destigmatize the mental health conversation, include the Kid Laroi’s Kids Are Growing Up: A Story About a Kid Named Laroi, Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil and Justin Bieber: Seasons. At last week’s A Day of Unreasonable Conversation held at The Getty Center, entertainment industry members heard from Hollywood and government leaders with varying cultural perspectives.
Jill Biden and Halle Berry at A Day of Unreasonable Conversation
Through thought-provoking discussions, impactful performances, and, at times, emotional conversations, A Day of Unreasonable Conversation surfaced new perspectives on today’s most complex topics to an audience of television writers, showrunners, and executives. Speakers were vulnerable in sharing stories that often do not get heard and urged the audience of TV creators to incorporate these experiences into their work.
First Lady Jill Biden and Halle Berry candidly discussed formerly taboo women’s health topics such as menopause, emphasizing the need for a new approach to women’s health research. Berry shared a personal story about how she realized that she was going through perimenopause, bringing forth blushes and laughter from the audience.

Meghan Markle‘s reputation has taken a big hit since she and Prince Harry exited their roles as senior royals in early 2020. The couple spent the better part of three years speaking out against the monarchy, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of many of their loyal followers. Therefore, this perspective leaves one royal commentator to believe Meghan is doomed to fail in new ventures, claiming her reputation is “damaged beyond repair.”
A royal commentator believes Meghan Markle may fail in her reported public comeback
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is reportedly planning a professional and public comeback. She signed with the talent agency William Morris Endeavor in April 2023 after leaving the entertainment industry upon her marriage to Prince Harry in May 2018.
WME shared on Instagram that the agency plans to represent Meghan in film and television production, brand partnerships, and overall business-building. Acting will not be an area of focus.

Update: The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin has a case of rebound Covid and was absent from today’s episode, more than a week after her initial diagnosis.
“Unfortunately Alyssa is not with us again because she’s got Covid,” said moderator Whoopi Goldberg at the top of the show. “Listen, we keep telling people it’s not gone, it’s still out there, so do pay attention, ‘cos it pops up and wants to give you a kiss.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin added, “She was fine, she took Paxlovid, and so she has one of those rebound cases that we hear so much about now.”
Recent studies suggest that a small fraction of people who have taken Paxlovid experience a rebound, with symptoms typically mild. The CDC notes that rebound cases are also possible independent of Paxlovid treatment, and typically require no additional medical treatment.

Republicans launched their control of the House of Representatives with a sprawling, paranoid new initiative: The Select Committee on the Weaponization of Government, an interrogation of alleged efforts to silence and punish conservatives across federal agencies. The undertaking signaled the obvious political goal among Republican lawmakers to score points against the Biden administration and their Democratic opponents. It also signaled something more ominous: that Republicans intend to use their newfound power to turn fringe theories into mainstream politics.

The Biden administration is using buzzy BeReal as the hook for its latest Covid vaccination campaign.
“Got my annual, updated shot today. You should get yours too, for real,” President Joe Biden tweeted Oct. 25. Attached to the tweet was a full-size photo of Biden pointing at his arm, and a smaller picture-in-picture image of Chief Medical Advisor Anthony Fauci and United States Surgeon General Vivek Murthy giving a thumbs-up.
This specific image layout—plus Biden’s “for real” chirp—are obvious calls to BeReal, the suddenly very popular, authenticity-focused app that reportedly raised 60 million earlier this year in a round that gave it a pre-money valuation of 600 million.

Kevin Messick is everywhere. The producer was at the SAG Awards with his daughter; at the March 2 premiere of “Winning Time,” the HBO limited series that debuted March 6; at the Los Angeles premiere of his Sundance breakout horror flick “Fresh,” which hit Hulu March 4 via Searchlight; at last weekend’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival Producers panel, representing producing partner Adam McKay’s Oscar-nominated end-of-the-world satire “Don’t Look Up;” and at Monday’s Oscar Nominees Luncheon at the Fairmont Hotel in Century City. On Friday, he’ll be at the AFI Awards annual lunch on behalf of Season 3 of HBO’s Emmy-winning “Succession.”

US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy told Face The Nation host Margaret Brennan on Sunday that low risk holiday gatherings are fine, as long as strict precautions are followed in the omicron era.
Murthy proposed a somewhat draconian approach to getting together in the joyful season.
“The concern and the challenge we have right now in the country, Margaret, is that we have millions of people who are still unvaccinated, which poses a risk to their lives, but also poses an increased risk of transmission,” Murthy said. “But if you do as many families, you get vaccinated and boosted. You use testing judiciously before you gather, you gather in well-ventilated spaces and use masks whenever you can in public indoor spaces, your risk can be quite low and your holidays can be quite fulfilling.”
Murthy said there’s much yet to be known about omicron. That includes whether the variant is resistant to current vaccines.

Following another week of surging Covid-19 infections — including early data suggesting a rise in breakthrough cases among those who are fully vaccinated — the Biden administration announced their recommendation of a booster vaccine shot in a statement from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Hhs) on August 18th. This announcement comes less than a week after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendation that people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised receive an additional dose of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) took effect.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky’s opening remarks at Friday’s Covid-19 press briefing struck a sobering tone. With cases, hospitalizations and death rates on the rise, Walensky said the data is sending a “clear message.”
“There is a clear message that is coming through,” the director said. “This is becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated.”
That conclusion came after Walensky gave an overview of the CDC’s most recent data. “After weeks of declines,” Walensky said. “The seven-day average of daily deaths has increased by 26 percent to 211 per day.

When President-elect Joe Biden enters office, he will inherit two public health crises: the coronavirus, which continues to spread and fill hospitals throughout the country, and the resurgent opioid drug epidemic, which continues to plague American families.
The American Medical Association warned in October that “the nation’s opioid epidemic has grown into a much more complicated and deadly drug overdose epidemic,” largely due to the availability of “illicitly manufactured” fentanyl, a synthetic opioid. And according to the AP, the United States could reach a record-high number of drug overdoses in the country this year.
