Angel Studios, still relishing the success of “Sound of Freedom,” has released a second trailer for “The Shift,” which they are touting as their first original (produced in-house) theatrical feature. Like the previous teaser, this second look chronicles a man (Kristopher Polaha) plucked from his existence and coerced into assisting “The Benefactor” in his multiverse-spanning plans. Kevin Garner just wants to get back to his wife.
The second trailer expands upon the dystopian world in which Kevin finds himself. It also hints that the Benefactor may literally be the devil himself. Our single-minded hero, years after the initial separation, travels the multiverse time shift after time shift to reunite with his wife (who is listed in his phone as “Molly my love”).
Paras Patel and Rose Reid co-star in the film. Carpenter’s Nook Lane Entertainment produced and Brock Heasley wrote and directed the feature-length adaptation of a 2010 short feature.

"He's proving to be quite the distraction." Goldwyn Films debuts this indie romance on VOD in December, after its initial small theatrical debut in September in both the UK and US. Surprised by Oxford marks the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Ryan Whitaker, who's adapting the story found in the memoir by Carolyn Weber. Brilliant but emotionally-guarded Caro arrives in Oxford with the singular goal of attaining her PhD, but through a turbulent friendship with a charming young man she begins to open herself up to mystery, vulnerability, and love. Headlined by Rose Reid, the film takes viewers on a transformative and tumultuous journey. The cast includes Ruairi O'Connor as her lover, Phyllis Logan, Mark Williams, Simon Callow, with Emma Naomi, Michael Culkin, and Annabelle Holloway. This doesn't seem all that bad for a romance, featuring a bit less camp than usual, plus strong performances and intense passion. // Continue Reading...

The faith-based indie outfit behind summer blockbuster Sound of Freedom is out with documentary After Death, which opens in over 2,600 theaters this weekend, an extremely wide release for a doc that doesn’t also happen to be a concert film.
The exploration of near-death experiences by survivors, scientists, medical professionals and authors that addresses the question of what happens when we die has pre-sold over 211,000 tickets. That’s according to the latest check of a constantly updating ticket counter on Angel’s website that estimates pre-orders based on integrations with ticketing platforms and exhibitors.
The company declined to put a dollar figure on pre-sales. “We are thrilled by audience response, craving a theatrical experience for After Death,” said Jared Geesey, distribution head of Provo, Utah-based Angel. “Life’s biggest question deserves the biggest screens and a distraction-free environment.”
Director Stephen Gray said the sudden loss of his brother-in-law at age 36 in part inspired the film.

"What if the 'bad thing' tears us apart?" Angel Studios has revealed a trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller called The Shift, the first feature made by Brock Heasley. This is another religious propaganda film disguised to be a "for everyone" feature. After a tense encounter with a mysterious stranger with otherworldly powers, a man is banished to a tyrannical, parallel Earth where he fights to get back to the woman he loves. Described on its crowdfunding page as "an uplifting story set in a sci-fi world, showing the struggle to maintain faith in God in the midst of great trial" and it's a "blockbuster-quality film made by fully believing creators." Usually we'd be against posting this kind of propaganda, but you can check it out anyway since it's a bit wild. The film stars Kristoffer Polaha, Neal McDonough, Elizabeth Tabish, and Rose Reid, with Sean Astin. It's kinda crazy...

Wholesome young stars – and Vanessa Redgrave – do their best with this anodyne Irish-set love story
Although the main characters in this romantic tale are meant to be just over 18, this Sky Movies release is manifestly aimed at a much younger market with its sex-free storyline and nice-girls-finish-first morality. Sure, the plot is as corny as Cracker Jack, revolving as it does around wholesome blond normcore kid Finley (Rose Reid), an aspiring violinist, who arrives in rural Ireland from New York to do a semester abroad and falls in love with non-threateningly baby-faced movie star Beckett (Jedidiah Goodacre).
But the film-makers have taken pains to gussy it up with a few contemporary details. For example, Beckett is in Ireland to work on a Game of Thrones-style fantasy movie series. Meanwhile Finley, compelled by her Irish Studies teacher to mingle with a local elder, reads the Twilight novels to her assigned crotchety old biddy Cathleen.

With the script for Brian Baugh’s “Finding You” (in theaters May 14) centering around violinist Finley (Rose Reid) traveling to the Irish coast for a semester, composer Kieran Kiely couldn’t help but say yes to the opportunity since music was part of the storyline.
In this coming-of-age story, Finley searches for herself, discovers her passion for music and finds unexpected romance with Jedidiah Goodacre’s Beckett Rush.
Kiely collaborated with fellow composer Timothy Williams and together they navigated their way across continents to build the film’s source music and score amid a pandemic.
How did you divide the music work on the film?
Kieran Kiely: We had to do a lot of work in advance of the filming because the whole film is all about music; she’s a fiddler, there’s the music we hear in the pub, the music Seamus (Patrick Bergin) teaches her, and there’s the score.

Don’t be fooled by the empowerment-sounding title of “Finding You”: The engine of writer-director Brian Baugh’s romantic comedy isn’t driven by the woman herself, but by the men who are continually placed in power positions that directly inform her arc. Where it would have been nice to see the heroine unlocking her own potential, the film instead focuses on her finding an intercontinental romance with a dashing young man, life coaching from an unlikely male ally and a mysterious message from her deceased older brother. This not-insignificant miscalculation aside, however, effervescent performances from an ebullient ensemble make “Finding You” a palatable and compelling female coming-of-age tale.
As if beckoned by the siren call of the bubbly pop song on the soundtrack, violinist Finley Sinclair (Rose Reid) emerges from the depths of the subway, a seemingly confident young woman negotiating New York City’s frenetic hustle and bustle.

Finley (Rose Reid) is an aspiring violinist who just botched her biggest audition ever. Beckett (Jedidiah Goodacre) is a Hollywood bad boy who is growing weary of fame. When fate (read: a winking flight attendant) seats them together on a cross-continental flight, sparks — quite predictably, mostly uncomfortably — fly. Such is the setup of Brian Baugh’s “Finding You,” , right down to its winking take on “Notting Hill.”
There’s nothing inherently wrong with using the cinematic grammar and usual expectations of a genre to attempt something new, but for every slightly inventive element in “Finding You,” Baugh piles on three times as many other bits of been-there, done-that plotting. For instance: Beckett’s prickly attitude toward his celebrity adds actual pathos to the film. He’s been famous for years, and his sniveling stage dad, played by Tom Everett Scott, has turned him into nothing more than a product to sell.

"Not really my type." Roadside Attractions has released an official trailer for a cute Irish romance film titled Finding You. Finley, a talented aspiring violinist, meets Beckett, a famous young movie star (more "Game of Thrones" though), on the way to her college semester abroad program in a small coastal village in Ireland. An unexpected romance emerges as heartthrob Beckett leads Finley on an adventurous reawakening, and she emboldens him to take charge of his future, until the pressures of his stardom get in the way. It was shot exclusively in Ireland, in and around Dublin, Claire, Offaly and Kildare. The film's "village set" location was in the beautiful town of Carlingford. This one stars Rose Reid and Jedidiah Goodacre, with Katherine McNamara, Patrick Bergin, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, and Judith Hoag, with Tom Everett Scott and Vanessa Redgrave. Exclusive: Nagra-kudelski’s myCinema digital content distribution system has announced its full slate of films a year after it’s launch, teed off by the James Franco feature Zeroville, which the actor both directed and headlines.
Originally, Alchemy took domestic rights at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival to Zeroville months before the company capsized due to bankruptcy. Since its pick-up at Tiff, Zeroville unfortunately became entangled in Alchemy’s financial woes and was thrown into distribution limbo until the Us distribution rights were recently acquired by Nagra. The pic will hit cinemas in September. The comedy based on Steve Erickson’s novel about a young actor who arrives in Hollywood during a transitional time also stars Seth Rogen, Megan Fox, Joey King, Will Ferrell, Dave Franco, Danny McBride, and Jacki Weaver. myCinema delivers films over the internet which individual theaters can then licenses for any number of weeks of play.
