It came as a shock last week when the news broke that Supergirl had been cancelled and the upcoming season 6 would be its last. This, of course, led to an outpouring of love for the show, the latest of whom to add to it is Kevin Smith.
When speaking on his Fatman Beyond podcast series, the subject of Supergirl being brought to an end came up, to which the filmmaker had this to say:
“Working on that show was some of the best times I’ve had in my life, professionally and personally. I’m so glad that show exists. I loved it, before I directed on it, just thought, ‘God, her relationship with her sister is so beautiful’.”
He also went on to talk about Melissa Benoist and what a joy she is to work with, mirroring many people’s perception of the actress.
“She is such a great person.

The CW's live-action TV series "Supergirl" based on the DC Comics character created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino for DC Comics, starring Melissa Benoist as the cousin of 'Superman', will not be renewed, following the airing of Season Six in 2021:

Supergirl celebrated a major milestone on Sunday by granting its titular heroine her heart’s desire: the chance to patch things up with Lena. (The twist-tastic episode also killed off everyone Kara has ever cared about, but come on, let’s focus on the positive here.)
The epic do-over came courtesy of Mr. Mxyzptlk, who now looks suspiciously like the non-Matthew Perry half of CBS’ Odd Couple reboot. As he explained, his previous exterior — that of actor Peter Gadiot, who portrayed the character in Season 2 — was merely a disguise with which to charm the Girl of Steel. This is his true form.

Supergirl becomes the third Arrowverse series to reach its 100th episode next week, with – as is TV tradition – the milestone instalment of season 5 being marked with a very special storyline that’ll cast a nostalgic eye on the Girl of Steel’s journey so far. Specifically, three former stars of the show will be making a comeback for the hour.
Titled “It’s a Super Life,” you probably don’t need me to tell you that the episode will be a take-off on It’s a Wonderful Life, with Mr. Mxyzptlk returning to National City – with a new face, as Thomas Lennon is replacing season 2’s Peter Gadiot – to give Kara an offer she can’t refuse. And that offer is to go back in time and see if she can fix the mistakes of her past, including telling Lena Luthor her secret before Lex did and ruined their friendship.

Supergirl reaches its 100th episode when it returns for the second half of season 5 in 2020, and this new set photo seems to reveal that there’s a massive twist to the status quo coming in that milestone installment.
As per Hollywood North Buzz, the following image comes from filming in Vancouver on season 5 episode 13, titled “It’s a Super Life.” And it seems to unmistakably show Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers revealing to the world that she’s really the Girl of Steel.

A great episode concludes a political, divisive, and explosive season of Supergirl.
Don't you love it when storylines come full circle making a questionable season worth watching?
Lex Luthor enacted his maniacal plan on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22 only to lose to yet another Kryptonian.
Supergirl meant it when she said that truth and justice always prevail.
Though a glossy cape and perfect hair sure do help.
Lex willingly hurt hundreds of people and betrayed a whole country in his efforts for world domination.
But still, I should have known Kryptonite alone could never kill Kara Danvers. Her heart, however, makes her weaker then Kryptonite ever could.

Lex Luthor made his long-awaited (and long-dreaded) return to Supergirl on Sunday’s finale, during which he enacted his master plan to destroy Superman — which, let’s be real, has been his only real goal all along.
At the height of his madness, even Lex’s most devoted accomplices couldn’t get on board with his desire to “turn Argo City into a blazing inferno” over his petty feud with the Man of Steel. (“I’ve already poisoned his tea,” Lillian told Lena. “If he’d stop running his mouth long enough to take a sip, he’d be dead by now.

Supergirl Season 4 Episode 21
It’s high time for everyone in Kara’s world to know that she’s Supergirl, though I suppose for now I’ll settle for Alex knowing. Any return to Midvale is welcome, and it’s always great to hear The Format (Nate Ruess’s band before fun.) The neural pathways thing feels like scifi gibberish flimflam but sure, fine, whatever. If nothing else, it allows for a great montage of memories of Alex and Kara flooding back as Alex realizes Supergirl is her sister. The beautiful visual of kara pulling sunlight from the plants, trees, moss is truly stunning as well.

Supergirl Season 4 Episode 20
James’s sister Kelly has fit into Supergirl seamlessly, bringing out another much-needed side in both James and Alex and knitting the group closer together. Everything about this episode felt like a natural extension of her relationship with Alex thus far, and the actors’ natural chemistry together has kept it from ever feeling rushed, even though realistically, they’ve gone from strangers to helping one another through major life choices in the blink of an eye. Smaller moments like their run together and talking in the hotel while waiting for the baby to be born allude to more time together off screen and make their relationship feel lived in.

How long can a girl be kept in the dark?
We're on the fourth season and Lena still doesn't know that Kara is Supergirl!
There have been so many close-call situations, several on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 20 alone, yet Supergirl somehow manages to maneuver them without revealing her identity to one of her best friends.
And she finally came so close. Kara took off her glasses and was about to tell Lena the truth.
I kept screaming "turn around Lena," but alas, the moment was ruined by Lena inadvertently guilt tripping Kara.
Understandably, Lena is in a fragile headspace after being betrayed by Tess and Lex.
Must be strange to have a sibling with superpowers, huh?

Hey, "Supergirl" fans. We hope you guys enjoyed tonight's episode 19. Now that it's officially over and in the can so to speak, it's time to see what the next, new episode 20 will have in store for you guys. The folks over at The CW were so kind enough to serve up a press release for episode 20. So, that is what we'll be referencing for this spoiler session. To get things started, CW's press release revealed that episode 20 is labeled/titled, "Will The Real Miss Tessmacher Please Stand Up?" That title is actually a parody of rapper Eminem's popular song, "Will The Real Slim Shady Please Stand Up" from back in 2000. That's just a fun fact I thought I'd throw out there. Anyways, episode 20 sounds like it will feature some very interesting, action-filled and dramatic scenes as Kara and Lena try to hunt down Lex. Eve sets a trap!

Supergirl deals with her tarnished image in the wake of the Red Daughter terrorist attack
This Supergirl review contains spoilers.
Supergirl Season 4 Episode 18

Alex and Kelly Olsen share a moment, Alex takes on Ben Lockwood, and Nia teaches Brainy a lesson while he weighs an important ethical choice. It’s a whole lot of connective tissue on this building episode that handles the fallout from the Red Daughter terrorist attack and sets up the final stretch of episodes for the season.
There was a time after losing Mon-El, when Kara felt like her only real value was as Supergirl. She tried to bury herself in the work of a hero, leaving her human cares and ties behind as much as possible.

I would hate to be Supergirl right now.
After Lex Luthor's little stunt, President Baker declared Supergirl public enemy number one on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 17.
We were clued into what he was planning with the Red Daughter on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 16. We knew she was going to pose as Supergirl and destroy her image in public, and yet, when it happened, it was so difficult to watch.
The real Supergirl would never attack the White House along with so many innocent people.
So, while her name is being smeared through the mud, her real followers know the truth.
Supergirl found Lena and Alex ready to bring down the person who framed her.
Obviously, the 'who' in this situation isn't going to be difficult to figure out.
Lillian Luthor: I know you're upset Lex outsmarted you. He hurt your poor little heart.
Lena Luthor: Well, at least I have a heart.

Sunday’s Supergirl turned the clock back three years — all the way to 2015, when this show was still on CBS — to explain how Lex Luthor enlisted his surprising sidekicks, including his “daughter.”

A thin, Lex Luthor-centric retcon of this season threatens to collapse under the weight of the infamous villain
This Supergirl review contains spoilers.
Supergirl Season 4 Episode 16
In a strange reimagining of its own history, Supergirl retconned most of this season to make it all about Lex Luthor. Though the episode was full of interesting character moments, it didn’t have quite enough substance to stand on its own, and ultimately felt less satisfying than it could have if it were less of a ret-con and more of a payoff.
It’s too bad that the Kasnia plot has been doled out sporadically, and almost all real Lex Luthor information is contained in the last two episodes. The end result is that this episode feels like a rushed attempt to pull a fast one on the audience. Even the connection between Ben Lockwood and Lex’s machinations is limited to just one conversation,...

If you thought Manchester Black and Ben Lockwood were terrible for the city, you haven't seen anything yet.
There's a reason why so many guards accompanied Lex Luthor upon his release; he's unpredictable and downright dangerous.

Kara & Co. took their fight for justice to the streets on Sunday’s Supergirl, laying down their weapons and armor in favor of protest signs and sensible footwear.

The Elite did not form to play games, even if their approach is casual with a flair for magic tricks.
Manchester Black, Hat, Menagerie, and the Morae were all business when it came to making a statement against racist, fascists, and the Children of Liberty on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 13.
For most of Supergirl Season 4, Supergirl has been dealing with extremists.
There's no middle ground; either you hate aliens, or you hate humans.
The Elite was no different. They killed anyone that stood in their way spreading terror throughout National City and even stealing the crown jewels in England.

Having been caught up in the developing situation involving Agent Liberty and the emergence of Nia Nal as Dreamer, it became almost easy to overlook how the producers of Supergirl had been building toward the unification of the Elite. In fact, we’ll see them come together on March 3rd during the aptly titled “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?,” an obvious nod to Action Comics #775.
As it turns out, the Elite will stick around a little longer than I initially expected, as they’ll continue being a collective nuisance in “Stand and Deliver.” And no, it’s not a re-imagining of the inspirational film starring Edward James Olmos. Instead, it’ll go down like this:

She's a maneater. Alright, Menagerie ate women's hearts too, but you get my point.
There's nothing more poetic than a heart-eating alien making her debut on a Valentine's Day-themed episode of Supergirl.
And how ironic that the final face-off happened during the Heart Association Masquerade Ball?
The characters took advantage of every moment to remind us that it was Valentine's Day.

Supergirl takes on Valentine's Day in an episode that's fun but raises questions about the overall direction for the season.
This Supergirl review contains spoilers.
Supergirl Season 4 Episode 12
It’s Valentine’s Day over on Earth-38 and everyone has love on their mind, though family seems to be a more apt theme for this episode. Alex hates Valentine’s Day and Brainy does research on it, both of which are very on brand, while James gives Lena a creepy portrait of herself sleeping. Kara has a few quiet moments that nicely display Supergirl’s ethos, when she asserts to Menagerie that she protects everyone, even the Children of Liberty, and when she reminds Nia that, “you’re part of my family now too, and all heroes are welcome.”
Much about this episode was fun and interesting, like the Valentine’s party and learning Brainy loves Raiders and hates snakes. Unfortunately,...

If you tuned in for last night’s episode of Supergirl, “Blood Memory,” then you saw Nia Nal take a huge stride toward her destiny of becoming a superhero. Not only did a trip to her hometown allow the aspiring journalist to further understand her powers, but she also became part of the exclusive club privy to Kara’s secret identity.
What’s also particularly exciting was how the closing moments of that episode showed Nia presented with the costume she’ll go on to wear as Dreamer. As luck would have it, she’ll suit up for the first time in the next adventure to air, but it’s worth pointing out that we’ll have to wait until February 17th for “Menagerie” to debut because the show will soon endure a brief hiatus of sorts. After all, it wouldn’t be wise for the network to compete with the Super Bowl.

After four seasons of name-checks and nods, Lex Luthor is finally making his Arrowverse debut later this season on Supergirl. Superman’s nemesis will be played by Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer, whose DC pedigree goes back to 1987’s Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in which he played Lex’s dim-witted nephew Lenny.
Due to his most famous role being on a hit comedy, fans were initially surprised when it was announced that Cryer was playing the iconic bald-headed bad guy last December, with some lamenting that Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum wasn’t asked back. Supergirl exec producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller, however, are promising that Cryer’s the perfect performer to bring Lex to life in this incarnation.
While Rovner admitted that his previous DC turn is “quite different” from Lex, Queller teased that the actor will “kill it” in the role.

With the “Elseworlds” crossover now behind us and winter hiatus almost at its end, the time will soon come for Supergirl to resume business as usual. If you’ll remember, “Bunker Hill” saw Agent Liberty publicly unmasked as Ben Lockwood and incarcerated, yet he’s somehow emerged from the situation a hero. And if that weren’t enough, the Girl of Steel has been fired from the Deo because she won’t reveal her secret identity.
From the look of it, the Lockwood situation will take a backseat for the time being. Well, at least for the midseason premiere, that is. The reason I say that’s because all promo material for the appropriately titled “Suspicious Minds” deals with Kara Zor-El now having a target of sorts on her back.

Fortunately, it didn’t take The CW very long to release them online. And if we’re to learn anything from Supergirl‘s midseason premiere teaser, it’s that the final moments witnessed in “Bunker Hill” will have lasting ramifications.

Revealing Ben Lockwood's identity only intensified the anti-alien sentiment amongst the masses on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 8.
I was angry on Kara's behalf and seriously annoyed with the mentality of all these Lockwood supporters.

After Manchester Black almost kicked his ass and then a team of Aliens saved him, he still had the nerve to continue bashing their kind.

Kara’s future remains uncertain after Sunday’s Supergirl, which finally brought everyone up to speed with a series of refreshing reveals — one of which could lead to war.
Despite his earnest (i.e. frustrating) commitment to maintaining the space-time continuum, Brainy admitted to knowing about Nia Nal in the 31st century, all but confirming Kara’s growing suspicions that Nia’s nightmares and narcolepsy could be pieces to a much larger puzzle. This led to Nia confessing that her family is from a distant planet where some of the women, herself included, develop the ability to dream the future.

Things aren't looking up for Ben Lockwood.
After what transpired on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 7, Lockwood has an even bigger target on his back.
What else could he have expected after becoming the Agent of Liberty? He's willingly killing aliens and spreading fake news about Supergirl to turn the masses against her.
If he thought his manifesto encouraged the Children of Liberty to protest peacefully that aliens are taking over the planet, he's even more deranged than we initially assumed.
At some point, someone was bound to come after him with a fiery vengeance. He deserves all of it.
Even his people are starting to realize that their fear has allowed them to be guided down a path of irrational choices.

Kara and J’onn learn how far Manchester Black is willing to go for vengeance in a solid episode of Supergirl.

Supergirl Season 4 Episode 7
This week on Supergirl, Kara and J’onn learn the truth about how far Manchester Black is willing to go for vengeance, Lena tests her first human subject, and James finally sees how vulnerable he is to the Children of Liberty.
Throughout Lena’s deeply unethical first human trial, she tries to keep her one and only test subject at an arm’s length. Adam, Aka Subject 0331, won’t let her, and it frankly makes her a better scientist. While Lena learns a lot from this experience – Adam’s test yields results in spite of his death and he has a profound effect on Lena – she still seems to have a deep misunderstanding of the problem she’s trying to solve.

To be completely honest, Supergirl‘s third season bored me more often than not. Thankfully, the producers have managed to turn it around this year, for I could imagine season 4 going down as being the series’ best when it wraps next spring.
If one element could be credited for the improvement, it’d have to be the addition of Ben Lockwood Aka Agent Liberty. Really, this guy has more depth to him than any previous big bad this show had called its own. Then again, you’re going to produce gold whenever you have someone like Smallville alum Sam Witwer bringing such great writing to life.
In addition to revealing the set of Lockwood’s new talk show, the gallery of images promoting this week’s episode, “Rather the Fallen Angel,” also shows the Maiden of Might teaming up with Manchester Black. And though one could argue the guy’s...
If one element could be credited for the improvement, it’d have to be the addition of Ben Lockwood Aka Agent Liberty. Did Thanksgiving bring everyone together?
That was the plan on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 6 when Kara continued to sulk following her heated debate with Ben Lockwood about the anti-alien sentiment coursing through National City.

If it hadn't been for the latter half, Supergirl Season 4 Episode 6, would have been a complete waste.
However, Alex made a few Harry Potter references, and Supergirl fought a dragon, so all was not wasted.
It's pretty evident that Supergirl Season 4 is moving at a glacial pace and steering towards one goal: the civil war with the aliens.
Alex can sit there and tell us this is a "fight like no other" over and over again, but sadly, it doesn't feel like the most dangerous or most exciting fight these heroes have ever fought.
Given the series low ratings, it seems the viewers agree.
It wasn't until Thanksgiving dinner at Kara's place that the episode finally found its groove and the manifesto began making some sense.

“Children of Liberty? Well, that’s a stupid name, isn’t it?” Manchester Black finally said what everyone’s been thinking on Sunday’s Supergirl, and for that, we thank him.
This year’s Thanksgiving episode began with the Children’s manifesto literally falling from the sky — because why send a tweet to the whole world when you could dump dozens of fliers in the park and call it a day? — laying out the organization’s anti-alien mission statement in black and white, which had everyone (especially Manchester) seeing red.
Lena immediately arranged for James to appear on the news...

Supergirl struggles with tone when the Children of Liberty try to carry out their version of Kristallnacht
This Supergirl review contains spoilers.
Supergirl Season 4 Episode 6
The trickiest part of this episode is that Supergirl’s tone is so buoyant that it’s all a bit too light to support the emotional heft of what transpires. Aliens homes are marked and roving bands of the Children of Liberty wander the streets to harass, attack, and intimidate them. It's not clear how far they would have gone without interference. It certainly seems like it was meant to be a sort of Kristallnacht for aliens, a turning point where suddenly persecution moves from social to physical.
But the lizard-turned-dragon makes it all a bit too quip-filled and goofy, and the big showdown of the episode is between two good guys. I wish Supergirl had the confidence to follow through with the story it outlined,...
