Welcome back for another week of horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases, readers! January 16th features plenty of intriguing offerings, from cult classics to sequels of cult classics to even a few recent films as well. If you happened to miss Blade Runner 2049, Happy Death Day, or The Snowman in theaters, all three are making their way home this Tuesday. Severin Films has put together The Amicus Collection (which features Asylum, And Now The Screaming Starts and The Beast Must Die), and Scream Factory is giving Eye of the Cat the Blu-ray treatment as well.
Beyond Skyline is also coming to Blu on January 16th, and for all you Joe Dante fans out there, Shout Select has put together a Collector’s Edition release of Matinee that looks like it’s a must-have.

Los Angeles Detective Mark Corley (Frank Grillo) thought bailing out his eighteen-year-old son, Trent (Jonny Weston), was the worst part of his day. But on the ride home, the skies above fill with a strange blue light. Within moments, the entire city’s population is vacuumed up into a massive alien ship.
In the aftermath, father and son lead a band of survivors to the marina. But when Trent is abducted, Mark relentlessly storms after his son onto the nightmarish warship. As the aliens move across the planet, feeding off the remnants of humanity, the resilient Mark battles through the bizarre environment, uncovering their horrific secrets. Before long, he forges an alliance with an unlikely ally. Together they are able to crash the ship and rescue several abductees.

The feature film debut of director Liam O’Donnell, Beyond Skyline is the sequel to the Strause bros'original Skyline, which, believe it or not, came out almost eight years ago.

A few months ago we learned that the terrible 2010 sci-fi film Skyline was actually getting a sequel called Beyond Skyline and they released a trailer for it. The surprising thing is... the sequel actually looks pretty freakin' awesome!
We now have a brand new second trailer to share with you, and again... I'm impressed by what I'm seeing! This movie just lookss awesome! It's weird that I'm saying that about a sequel to a movie that I hated. Here's the synopsis:
