Greta Gerwig could be in line for a hattrick of Oscar nominations this year for Picture, Director, and Original Screenplay for her marvelous work on Warner Bros.’s “Barbie.” The multi-hyphenate co-wrote the movie with her partner, Noah Baumbach, while she brought to life the world of Barbie as a visionary helmer of one of the biggest films of the year. She has reaped three Oscar bids to date for two of her previous pictures. Let’s take a closer look at those races.
Her first bids came in 2018 for “Lady Bird,” which tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who comes of age in Sacramento, California, in 2002. Saoirse Ronan stars in the lead role while Timothée Chalamet, Lucas Hedges, and Laurie Metcalf also featured. “Lady Bird” was a critical darling, which meant that Gerwig enjoyed a good time at the Critics Choice Awards, securing nominations for both Original Screenplay and Director.

In an unusual turn of events, this year’s recipient of the International Award at the American Society of Cinematographers Awards is also a nominee in its feature competition. Darius Khondji, who has been working as a director of photography for decades and earned his first Academy Award nomination for Evita (directed by Alan Parker) in 1996, is taking home the annual honor and competing for a trophy for his work on Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.
While some DPs are known for longtime relationships with a single director, Khondji has amassed a remarkable body of work through productions with a range of helmers whose cinematic styles vary widely. Bardo was his first collaboration with Alejandro G. Iñárritu, whom Khondji describes as a very visual director who was intent on making the film, which Netflix released Dec. 16, feel as immersive as possible. He also has lensed films for...

“Salem’s Lot,” an adaptation of a Stephen King book from Warner Bros. and director Gary Dauberman (“Annabelle Comes Home”), has been delayed to a release in April of next year.
The film was originally slated for a release on Sept. 9, 2022 but will now open April 21, 2023.
“Salem’s Lot” stars Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, John Benjamin Hickey, Bill Camp, Jordan Preston Carter and Pilou Asbaek. The delay is a result of Covid post-production delays, according to an individual with knowledge, something that has impacted many movies across Hollywood and has led to countless date shifts over the last two years.

Oscar-winning "Parasite" director Bong Joon Ho is working on his next big movie project, and it has a star-studded cast. For his upcoming untitled sci-fi thriller set at Warner Bros., the South Korean filmmaker has tapped Steven Yeun, Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, and others to star, Deadline reported. The film reunites Joon Ho and Yeun five years after they worked together on Netflix's "Okja."
Details around Joon Ho's forthcoming film are still unknown, aside from the plot that's based on Edward Ashton's 2022 novel "Mickey7" - which follows the story of an "expendable employee" who doesn't want to be replaced by a clone. Considering Joon Ho's track record with book-to-film adaptations, his take on the sci-fi novel could be entirely different from the original story.
Joon Ho's "Mickey7"-inspired flick is his first movie venture in two years since "Parasite" cleaned up during the 2020 award show season. Read ahead...
