Beth is a well known cellist on the UK folk and acoustic music circuit. She studied Music and Dance at Bath spa University. She has played live for Newton Faulkner, Eliza Carthy, The Unthanks and The Heavy and most recently is a composer and performer of the acclaimed Lost Words: Spell Songs project with Kris Drever, Karine Polwart, Rachel Newton and Julie Fowlis, Seckou Keita and Jim Molyneux.
Her film composition partner is Benedict Please and they are also founder members of The Bookshop Band, in which they write songs inspired by books and stories. Beth also has her own solo project, Beth Porter and the Availables, as well as Red Carousel, a string quartet.
She writes equally on the cello and baritone ukulele and also sings and plays recorder.
