Winning Emmys is old hat for the Fox competition series “So You Think You Can Dance,” but it’s a brand new experience for Al Blackstone, who claimed Best Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming at the Creative Arts Awards on Saturday night, September 19. He won for three routines from the show’s 16th season, which aired last summer: “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “Mambo Italiano” and “The Girl from Ipanema.” Scroll down to watch his winning routines at the bottom of this post.

The fifth and final night of the 2020 Creative Arts Emmys is complete — and thus, so is the entire 2020 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The final 30 Creative Arts winners were crowned Saturday evening on Fxx, 24 hours ahead of the real-deal Primetime Emmys on ABC.
The first trophy of the night went to “Rick and Morty,” the year’s Outstanding Animated Program. The final award went to ESPN’s “The Last Dance,” which beat out “Tiger King” and “McMillion$” in the documentary series category.
Plenty transpired between those awards, which were announced more than two hours apart. One lowlight came when the cable presentation’s voiceover accidentally announced the wrong winner for Guest Actor in a Drama series. Sorry Jason Bateman, it wasn’t actually you.
Below is the full list of Saturday’s winners.

We’re a few weeks away from finding out who wins the million-dollar grand prize on “World of Dance,” but those aren’t the only accolades up for grabs. Jefferson y Adrianita, the salsa duo who just made it through the Duels round, also just got an Emmy nomination for Best Choreography. They earned the nom for both of their routines that have aired on the show so far. Watch the first one above, and scroll down to see the other.
Jefferson Benjumea and Adrianita Avila choreographed “Dos Jueyes” for the Qualifiers round, for which judges Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough and Ne-Yo unanimously decided to send them to the next round. Then during the Duels they choreographed “El Rey Del Timbal” for their battle against fellow Latin dancers Luca and Alessandra. And again, the judges were unanimous in picking them as the winners, which means they’re on their way...

One of the best things about “Top 4 Perform” night on “So You Think You Can Dance” is the mix-and-match pairings. Every dancer performed once with every other dancer, leading to potentially revelatory match-ups. That was the case when b-boy Bailey Munoz and contemporary phenom Gino Cosculluela joined forces towards the end of the night. This time they were both B-boys, though in this case the B stood for Broadway. Scroll down to watch their performance at the bottom of this post.
Munoz and Cosculluela performed a Broadway routine choreographed by Al Blackstone in which the dancers played friends who find themselves in love with the same woman. I was concerned when I heard that because that story concept is basically the “No homo!” of same-sex dance numbers. But I was already thoroughly charmed by the dancers’ interplay during their rehearsals. Even though Cosculluela is known for his spotless technique, he...

I feel spoiled by Tahitian dances from the past. I didn’t feel you got into character enough." Mary said, "The hips and knees were moving incredibly fast." She gave Anna some technical critiques, and she gave Bejamin a lot of praise. Dominic said, "Anna’s hips told me a great story.

Mandy Moore (“So You Think You Can Dance”) has gone back-to-back by winning Best Choreography at the Emmys for the second year in a row. This year she was awarded for her work on two routines: the massive group number “Brand New” (watch it below) and the intimate duet “To Make You Feel My Love.” The prize was handed out at the Creative Arts Awards on Sunday night, September 9, during a ceremony that honored the best achievements in reality, variety and nonfiction programming.
Moore is known for her work ranging from “Dancing with the Stars” to “La La Land” but she didn’t win her first Emmy until last year, when she prevailed for a pair of dances she created for “DWTS.” Her victory this year is her first for “Sytycd,” and her busy season doesn’t end there. She has been choreographing routines for the current 15th season of “Sytycd,...

Well at least “Game of Thrones” doesn’t have its own variety show. That might be what the contenders were thinking on night two of the 2018 Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday, September 9. But Creative Arts is all done for “Thrones.” Sunday night was all about variety, reality, and nonfiction programs. The waterworks were flowing in the second week of live shows on “So You Think You Can Dance” thanks to contestants Slavik Pustovoytov and Genessy Castillo, and to Emmy nominated choreographer Al Blackstone, who created a Broadway routine for them that brought judges Vanessa Hudgens and Mary Murphy to tears. These two contestants came into the live shows as underdogs, and in some ways they may still be rough around the edges — hip-hop dancer Pustovoytov is still getting used to learning any choreography at all — but their chemistry and emotionality has made them, as Nigel Lythgoe put it, “very much alive in this competition.”

While Fox's dance competition series has been a strong contender in the choreography category for the past few years (it has won seven Emmys), it has outdone itself this year, landing four of the five nominations. The show, now in its 14th season, sees Mandy Moore, Christopher Scott, Travis Wall and Al Blackstone all nominated (Blackstone is a first-time nominee, while the rest have been nominated before).
The fifth and final nominee in the category is Chloe Arnold, choreographer for CBS' The Late Late Show, who was discovered as a teenage tap dancer by Debbie Allen and has ...

Lorne Michaels continues to pull ahead with the most Emmy nominations in history for an individual. The “Saturday Night Live” creator and executive producer added a writing nomination to his tally in 2018, bringing his total to 82 — ahead of now-retired HBO documentary maven Sheila Nevins, who’s in second place with 76.
Nevins is still the person with the most Emmys won as an individual in history, at 30.
Speaking of Michaels, it was another stellar season for “Saturday Night Live,” which increased its total Emmy nominations to 252 (adding 21 more this year). But the big change in 2018 is for second place: The return of “Game of Thrones” netted 22 nominations for the HBO series, bringing its total haul over seven seasons to 129. That puts it ahead of long-time leader “ER,” which amassed 124 nominations over its 15 seasons, and now drops to third.
