“Saturday Night Live” ended its 49th season on May 18, and now all eyes are set for the fall of 2024, when the monumental 50th season will begin. “I get awestruck at that idea and that concept,” reveals Bowen Yang, who just wrapped up his fifth year as a cast member. “It’s all tied back to [showrunner and creator] Lorne Michaels and all of the producers who’ve been on that journey with him and us, and who’ve supported people and launched their careers. It’s really, for lack of a better word, crazy to think about.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

It is absolutely wild to think that Robin Williams got passed over for the part of Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series because he wasn’t British! Now, while David Thewlis undoubtedly did justice to the character, one can’t help but wonder what kind of magic Williams could have brought to the role. Because one can never accept Williams to be a wrong choice for anything! The Harry Potter crew really missed out on something special with that one silly rule.
Robin Williams in Jumanji (1995) Robin Williams Was Denied the Role of Remus Lupin Because He Wasn’t British
Robin Williams, known for his extensive Hollywood career and a string of iconic roles, is often regarded as one of the few actors universally loved in the industry. Many would assume that Williams could land any role he desires.
However, that wasn’t the case when he wanted to enter the Harry Potter series.

Jean-Paul Vignon, the romantic French vocalist and actor who impressed audiences on both sides of the Atlantic during an eight-decade career, died March 22 of liver cancer in Beverly Hills, his family announced. He was 89.
Performing a repertoire of contemporary pop and American standards, Vignon debuted in the U.S. in 1963 at the famed New York supper club The Blue Angel, where he opened for stand-up comic Woody Allen.
Ed Sullivan would soon showcase him on his Sunday night CBS variety show in eight appearances — including one in which he sang a duet with young Liza Minnelli — and he became a regular guest on Johnny Carson and Merv Griffin’s programs.
Signed to Columbia Records, Vignon released his first U.S. album, Because I Love You, in 1964. Three years later, he had a supporting role opposite William Holden and Cliff Robertson in the World War II film The Devil’s Brigade.

Curse of Oak Island has brought some noteworthy finds in the past and now, the team discovered silver on Lot 5. However, many History Channel fans seem unimpressed with progress, so is it likely to hold their attention for long?
Curse Of Oak Island Fans Want More Treasures
Theories of Templars and Vikings visiting the area way before Christopher Columbus are interesting. However, there has been a lot of theorizing and nothing concrete enough to solidify anything. History Channel fans want to see some treasure and lots of it, unearthed by Rick Lagina and the various teams.

The most recent episode of The Curse of Oak Island saw a discovery that might connect two historical groups. The team has always believed the Vikings made their way to the island. They also feel that the Knights Templar hid treasure on the island. A brand-new discovery makes them think that the Vikings and Knights Templar might have worked together on Oak Island.
Here is what the team found and why they connected it to both the Knights Templar and Vikings.
Curse Of Oak Island Connects Knights Templar To Vikings
There are three stone monuments on Oak Island and the team there thinks they point the way to the hidden treasure on the island. However, they have a new theory about these monuments. The team always believed the Knights Templar built the monuments to lead them to the treasure. But, what if the Vikings of that era were also involved?...

There is one scene from "Gremlins" that has always stood out to me and I think about it every Christmas. Phoebe Cates' character Kate has a monologue about how much she hates Christmas because, as a child, her father went missing and the police discovered him with a broken neck inside her chimney while dressed as Santa Claus with an armful of presents. "And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus," she grimly declares at the end in a flat voice.
Kate's speech about this tragic holiday death paints a visceral image in your mind. It captures the essence of "Gremlins" which, on the surface, is a family-friendly, yuletide comedy with a dark and freaky center. This duality mirrors the Gremlins themselves: the cute, cuddly Gizmo on the outside and the mischievous monster within.

When the first episode of "The Twilight Zone" aired, "The Sopranos" creator David Chase was a freshman in high school. As Chase himself put it in a recent column for Variety, the show "made a mammoth impression." The series, with its bold anthology format and its love of the surreal, would go on to have a clear influence on how Chase went about his own TV show, despite its more serialized and realistic format. "The Twilight Zone" might've technically ended in 1964, but it stuck in Chase's mind long afterward.
"From the opening, where writer Rod Serling came out in his herringbone jacket with his cigarette and introduced the show: That, in itself, was entertaining," Chase wrote. "I just wanted to hear what Rod had to say about the mystery of the universe this time out." Serling was a writer with a lot to say about American culture, and despite the...

Trevor Noah is easily one of the best stand-up comedians out there today. His long work with The Daily Show gives him the pedestal to speak about any subject on a global stage that would be relevant to the people of the countries that were colonized for years, including his home country, South Africa. It was The Daily Show that allowed him to grow as a writer and a presenter who made sure to bring up the subject of colonialism, colonizers, and the impact these powerful countries left on many other countries in the global south.
Trevor Noah has done ten specials before Where Was I?, and this special was shot in Detroit. Trevor wasted no time jumping into a subject matter that is in direct reference to the title of the show, Where Was I? It was interesting to hear Trevor Noah talk about Germany and France, the latest countries he performed in.

The Dominican Republic’s Bou Group is in production on its latest pic under its unprecedented multi-year distribution deal with The Walt Disney Company, “Cazatesoros.”
According to the adventure caper’s director, Héctor Manuel Valdez, who co-founded Bou Group with José Ramón Alamá and Vicente Alamá, the pact with Disney came about following several years as regional box office leaders. “They contacted us in 2020 after our company had previously produced commercial successes such as ‘Todos los hombres son iguales,’ ‘Colao,’ ‘Trabajo sucio’ and ‘Que león,’ (the highest-grossing film in the history of the Dominican Republic), among others,” said Valdez.
Like most of the producers in the country, Bou Group finances its films by tapping into Article 34 of the Dominican Republic’s tax incentives, which allows companies in the Dr to allocate 25% of their projected taxes towards local production.

Ridley Scott tends to make films that fall into one of three buckets. First, we have his science-fiction work, which features classics like "Alien" and "Blade Runner" and runs all the way up to "The Martian" and his two "Alien" prequels. Second, there are gritty dramas. Some of them have big scale action elements, like "Black Hawk Down," and others are much more stripped down, such as "The Counselor." But by far, the biggest bucket of Ridley Scott's career is for historical epics. From his very first film back in 1977 with "The Duelists," Scott has shown a consistent interest in history, especially if it involves fighting.
Just in the last decade, Scott has directed the masterful "The Last Duel," the decidedly un-masterful "Exodus: God and Kings," and his most recent film "Napoleon," all of which fall into this bucket. He does so many of them that a couple fall under the radar.

Rapper, wrestler … King of Spain? As guest host of Saturday Night Live this week, Bad Bunny has the chance to expand his acting repertoire. Despite having more than a hundred acting credits on IMDb, only four aren’t for playing himself. So does he have what it takes to make it on stage?

“Saturday Night Live” had more than one surprise appearance in its first show back, including one from none other than Taylor Swift. But they also welcomed Christopher Columbus, who came with an important message: It’s Ok to start taking down statues of him.
Well, sure, it wasn’t actually Columbus. It was Bowen Yang playing the infamous explorer. He was invited on by Michael Che and Colin Jost as part of a segment about Indigenous Peoples Day.
As he greeted the audience, Columbus promptly informed Che that he was the explorer’s second favorite comedian — but not behind Jost. Then he got into the Statue thing.
Che was quick to point out the fact that Columbus didn’t truly discover America, and pointed out that many in the world would prefer that statues of him be taken down, considering Columbus’ bloody history in the new world.

The nostalgia of 1980’s coming-of-age films is an unbeatable feeling. There’s nothing quite as comforting as sitting on your couch on a rainy day and watching a good old-fashioned adventure from your formative years. And for some, Richard Donner’s The Goonies is the pinnacle of such nostalgia. The movie follows a group of teenagers who call themselves The Goonies who embark on a treasure hunt through the town’s underground caves, hoping to find the legendary ‘rich stuff’ that local icon One-Eyed-Willy left behind. Along the way, they’re in for encounters with the town’s local crime family, The Fratelli’s. They’re after the treasure themselves and they’re willing to go to nearly any length to get it.
The movie is a classic, of course, but something that we feel has been missing from the internet is speculation on the film’s many themes and...

Florida Department of Education officials repeatedly diminished the impact of slavery on African Americans in their review of a proposed Advanced Placement African American Studies course, according to a report from the Miami Herald.

“Clone High,” the animated MTV cult classic about a high school devoted to teenage clones of historical figures from creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller (the “Spider-Verse” franchise) and Bill Lawrence (“Ted Lasso”), returns with new episodes on Max 20 years after the cancellation of its sole season. The core group has thawed to confront a more complicated world of social media and new cultural norms, where “Riverdale” has replaced “Dawson’s Creek” as the coming-of-age template, complete with slightly more adult humor and even sillier situations — and fewer executive notes since the creators now wield greater power.
Back are Abe Lincoln (Will Forte), Cleopatra (Mitra Jouhari replacing Christa Miller), JFK (Chris Miller), and Joan of Arc (Nicole Sullivan). They are joined by new clone classmates Harriet Tubman (Ayo Edebiri), Frida Kahlo (Vicci Martinez), Confucius (Kelvin Yu), Topher Bus (Neil Casey as a canceled Christopher Columbus), and Sacagawea (Jana Schmieding). Whether Lily Gladstone decides to campaign for lead actress or supporting (and there’s a case for either), a spot will be reserved for her in a lineup. That’s because her powerfully complex role in Apple Original Films’ “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival on a rainy Saturday night, is too good to ignore.
Gladstone delivers an uncompromising portrayal as Mollie, an Indigenous woman whose family and tribal community are being murdered at the hands of a sinister group of white men, driven by their thirst for greed and power. She’s a magnificent force.
It became clear almost 10 minutes into Martin Scorsese’s epic adaptation of David Grann’s 2017 non-fiction book “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” that the audience of attendees were witnessing the birth of a star.

"Clone High" was a clever, silly animated show about genetic clones of famous historical figures — like Abe Lincoln, George Washington, and Marie Curie — getting sent to high school for an experiment. It served as a parody of high school dramas of the early 2000s like "Dawson's Creek" and "The O.C." And yet, the show quickly built an entertaining high school story of its own that was just as compelling, with the high concept shenanigans also letting the interpersonal romances breathe and shine.
The show was unceremoniously canceled by MTV due to both low ratings and protests about the portrayal of Gandhi in the series. Since then, creators Bill Lawrence, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller have all gone on to do rather impressive things. Lawrence co-created "Ted Lasso," and Lord and Miller helped revolutionize American animation with "Into the Spider-Verse."

Bob Dylan has an extensive catalog of widely celebrated songs. His writing earned him a Nobel Prize — a rare honor for a musician — but some of his songs are more baffling than they are moving. In such a large body of work, this is bound to happen. Here are five of Dylan’s most confounding songs.
Bob Dylan | H. Thompson/Evening Standard/Hulton Archive/Getty Images ‘Wigwam’ is a Bob Dylan song without any lyrics
Dylan’s 1970 song “Wigwam” is reminiscent of warm nights and features guitar, piano, and horns accompanying Dylan’s vocals. What’s odd about it, though, is that there are no actual lyrics in the song. Instead, Dylan sings a series of “la-di-da’s” over the loping melody.
The lack of lyrics doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of the song, though. The arrangement is enjoyable, and it received mostly positive reviews upon its release.
