We're annoyed with The X Factor. No, not because of Mason Noise, or because Sinitta wasn't at Judges' Houses, or because of Simon Cowell's eye-wateringly high waistline. Nope, we're annoyed with The X Factor because we're not getting Halloween Week this year.
There's nothing scarier than a hopeful singer nervously belting out a classic while dressed in lycra and cobwebs, but we're going to be denied this pleasure as the contestants instead face the "this is me" theme for the first live show on Saturday. But that doesn't stop us from carving a pumpkin, popping on a witch's hat and reliving these best ever Halloween Week performances:
1. 'E.T.' - Little Mix (2011)

It's time to face the music. Possibly unable to bear saying "Cheryl Fernandez-Versini" one more time, Peter Dickson - the voice of X Factor itself - has announced that he's decided to "check out and cut loose". Oh well, at least we'll always have Rachel Adedeji.
But the paradox is that while Peter Dickson is irreplaceable, he must also be replaced. It's not going to be easy, but we've come up with a list of eight people who could possibly lend their voices to the tricky task of introducing various hopeful acts as they pursue their dreams on the biggest stage in Britain...
1. Marcus Bentley
The obvious choice. Marcus is best known for his dulcet Geordie tones on Big Brother, which have become increasingly exaggerated as time has gone by ("Toniiiiiiiiiiiiight," he yells, sounding like a gruff puppy whose tail has just been stomped on). He has voiceover experience, he...

The Only The Young shouty man has taken his talents on the road.
The X Factor fan, famous from last year's live shows, shouted out "Only The Young!" during tonight's Celebrity Big Brother live eviction.

Only The Young previously spoke to Digital Spy to claim ignorance about the identity of the "shouty man" in the audience. He had been heard vigorously supporting the group each week on The X Factor.
"We didn't have any tickets for the show. We didn't give him a ticket. We don't know how he got in," band member George told us.
An Only The Young shouty man megamix was even revealed last year. Check it out below:...

And so it's over. Ben Haenow has been crowned the winner of The X Factor after months of auditions and more auditions and Boot Camp and Judges' Houses and live shows. Now what?
Well, we're not quite ready to say goodbye just yet, so we've collected some of our favourite moments of the series. We're not talking performances as such - we're talking all the silly sideshow bits and bobs that have made this series. Are any as good as Jedward doing their own backing vocals or Rachel Adedeji falling over? We'll leave that up to you to decide.
So without further ado, here they are, in no particular order...

It's getting serious on The X Factor now, and how do we know? Because each act will be performing two songs this week... no biggie! There are just five hopefuls left – Stereo Kicks, Lauren Platt, Andrea Faustini, Ben Haenow and Fleur East – but who's going to shine?
One thing they've had no control over this week is song choice. The public picked one of their tracks, and special celeb guests chose the other. That means anything could happen, so join us from the start of the show at 8pm, as we bring you all the action...

One our favourite things about this year's X Factor live shows is the presence of one particularly shouty man in the crowd.
Without fail, each week, one bloke can be heard screaming "Only The Young!" at the top of his lungs in support of the four-piece, and there's now a supercut megamix of each moment so far.
Even when the group were eliminated last weekend, it didn't stop the man issuing his battle cry the following night.
The shout sounds so similar each time, it's almost as if he was recorded one night and played back as a gag from the producers.
The funniest part has to be when the unnamed man can be heard shouting: "Come on, Dermot! Only The Young!"
Only The Young themselves have spoken about their vocal fan, telling Digital Spy that they have no idea who he is.
The X Factor continues on Saturday (November 29) at 8pm on ITV.

The X Factor eliminees Only The Young have admitted that they were shocked by Reece Bibby's recent tweet - which seemed to suggest he wanted them to leave the competition.
Bibby, a member of Stereo Kicks, apparently tweeted that he'd voted for Only The Young to leave the show in an online poll - though he later claimed that he wasn't in charge of his Twitter account at the time.
"We saw him and we just talked about it - 'What was it about?'" Only The Young's Mikey Bromley told Digital Spy today. "And he claimed it wasn't him, so we were just like, 'Yeah, fair enough'.

Ritchie found himself in the bottom two alongside Andrea Faustini, and both acts performed in a sing-off against each other.

Only The Young have been eliminated from 'The X Factor'. The four-piece band made up of Charlie George, 17, Parisa Tarjomani, 20, Betsy-Blue English, 18 and 19-year-old Mike Bromley left the competition this evening (22.11.14) as part of a double elimination, after finding themselves with the fewest number of public votes. Following the announcement, the group told host Dermot O'Leary: ''We're just so grateful to everyone that's kept us in the competition so far. All the people that have worked on the show thank you so much, we've had an incredible time and this is not the end of Only The Young. ''We've...

Bob Geldof shuffled onto the X Factor stage last night and apologised to the "X Factor nation" for something on the ITV singing competition that was "harrowing and not suited to an entertainment show".
It turned out that he was referring to footage of Ebola victims ahead of the Band Aid 30 premiere, rather than Saturday night's Big Band Week, but you probably understand our confusion.
Does anyone other than Simon Cowell actually enjoy Big Band Week? In the early days of X Factor, making the acts wheel out some corny Rat Pack covers actually felt worthwhile as it was the only sort of record that most of them would ever get to make. A Mother's Day record of sub-Bublé covers.
However, somewhere around series 3 or 4 when the show tried to gain an air of musical credibility, the Big Band theme has felt like an awkward sibling. A throwback to the years of Brookstein,...

Whether it's to see which act can pull off the best Frank Sinatra swagger or who can put their own twist on a classic, Big Band Week on The X Factor is always entertaining.
Last night was as dramatic as Big Band Week should have been, with last-minute song change drama, questionable mash-ups and Louis still unable to name all of Stereo Kicks.
Join us back here at 8pm as we find out who's going home...
21:01So, the general opinion is that no-one is quite sure what happened. Anyway, let us know in the comments section below what you thought about tonight's show. See you next week!

1. Andrea Faustini: 'Summertime' by George Gershwin and DuBose Heyward
Cheryl: "You absolutely brought that to life. One word. Amazeballs."

2. Lauren Platt: 'Smile' by Nat King Cole
Louis: "It's just so effortless like you're born to do this. You're always note-perfect."
Mel B: "You look absolutely stunning. Your technique vocally is flawless.

21:47Cheryl wanted to give Fleur "props" - though presumably only if it doesn't take away any of her own performance budget?

21:44Simon echoes our own wise words - Fleur's "fantastic" performances are on a par with the Sunday night guest performers. He believes she can win - and so do we!

The X Factor star Lauren Platt has admitted that she is frustrated by rumours romantically linking her to Only The Young member Charlie George.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the X Factor studios yesterday, Platt insisted she isn't annoyed by the reports but explained that their relationship is strictly platonic.
"It's frustrating, because I personally feel like a girl and a boy can just be friends without things going on," she said. "It's just like me being friends with Fleur except Charlie's a boy, really.
"A lot of my friends back home are boys so to me it doesn't really register in my head sometimes. To other people, obviously a lot of people aren't like that so I can understand why people would think there's something going on. I just think for two of the youngest people in the house, we're handling it a lot more maturely than a lot...

The X Factor acts have admitted that they think Jake Quickenden could win I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
While the line-up has not yet been confirmed for the hit jungle competition, Quickenden - who was eliminated from The X Factor a fortnight ago - has been rumoured to be on the list.
Speaking to Digital Spy backstage at the X Factor studios, Fleur East suggested that Quickenden would be "amazing" on the show.
"He's one of these all-rounders – he's really talented, he's got a great personality, he could do anything," she said. "So yeah, that would be fun to see."
Paul Akister admitted that he missed Quickenden in the X Factor house, saying: "I think everyone does. He's such a big character and just in general in the house the mood was really high – everyone was just really happy, and when he went everyone just went dead.

It's Friday, just before lunchtime, and we've snooped our way into the X Factor studios - where the contestants are on stage hearing a big announcement from a booming Simon Cowell video (we're not allowed to tell you what it is, but all will be revealed tonight). But before we know it, it's time for Paul Akister's sound check, and we're being very politely ushered out into the canteen.
Why? Because Mel B doesn't allow anyone to see her acts rehearsing. "She closes the set off so no contestants are allowed in," Paul tells us later. "I think it's so people can't see the competition. It's a good tactic." (Incidentally, he's "really nervous" about his performance this week, because he's going to be moving around a lot: "I'm just used to standing there and singing so this is totally different for me.")

We've been looking forward to Boyband vs Girlband, Disco, Michael Jackson vs Queen Week for ages, and the people at ITV have just released tomorrow's songlist.
Fleur East performed 'Thriller' only last week, so that's not made the selection. And (thankfully) Andrea Faustini's week one performance of 'Earth Song' means we don't have to hear that again either.
We won't whinge too much about The X Factor failing to stick to the theme this week, though with over 60 solo Michael Jackson singles, they didn't really have to use any Jackson 5/The Jacksons numbers, did they?
Our complaint, as ever with Michael Jackson week, is the emphasis on the slowies.
Mj was as good a dancer as he was singer, and it's a shame they've not trusted any of the acts with the likes of 'Beat It', 'Billie Jean', 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough', 'Wanna Be...

First it was boyband vs girlband week, then it was disco week, but The X Factor finally settled on a theme for this weekend - Michael Jackson vs Queen! Yep, we're not sure whether it was inspired by the two acts' duet 'There Must Be More To Life Than This', but what we do know is that our final nine acts have a hell of a lot of choice when it comes to picking tracks...
One of our favourite X Factor games is predicting which songs the acts will perform, so we've had a little sift through the Mj and Queen back catalogues to try to figure out what they'll be belting out on Saturday night!
Andrea Faustini - 'The Show Must Go On'
Andrea's already tackled Mj's 'Earth Song', so we think he has to go for a Queen classic, really. And what better than 'The Show Must Go On'?...

There were fireworks at The X Factor house this week - no, we actually mean actual fireworks. For Bonfire Night.
The remaining contestants were treated to a party at their North London home to mark the occasion - complete with a special fireworks display and piles of tasty treats.
Jack Walton and Lola Saunders - both of whom were eliminated at the weekend - were able to enjoy the bash, although we're not sure how much Jack liked Stereo Kicks' James Graham dressing up as a mummy.
Continuing the spooky theme, Andrea Faustini posed with a skull - though we're not quite sure why - and got into the party spirit by having a drink and a dance with Only The Young's Betsy-Blue English (we don't know why she's wielding a coat hanger).
Also getting into the party spirit were Stereo Kicks, who appeared to be sipping on blue...

Stereo Kicks members Jake Sims and James Graham have admitted that they take girls to an Ibis hotel after a night out.
The two boyband members, who are currently competing in The X Factor, also suggested that Only The Young's Betsy-Blue English is "hot, but she thinks she's too good for anyone".
In an interview with Reveal, Sims and Graham were asked what they did when they wanted to "get lucky" with a girl.
Sims replied: "We take them to a nearby Ibis hotel!"
The 19-year-old added: "Yeah, me and James took a girl each back to the hotel last week," before revealing that the girls paid for the hotel stay.
Graham added: "I'm seeing her again next week and I'm paying for the hotel that time - it was just the circumstances last time."
Asked which Ibis they take the girls to, Sims reportedly winked and said: "Any one you like.

Graham added: "I'm seeing her again next week and I'm paying for the hotel that time - it was just the circumstances last time."
Asked which Ibis they take the girls to, Sims reportedly winked and said: "Any one you like.

Louis Walsh had some bolts on his neck. Mel B and Cheryl growled at the camera, and Simon Cowell attempted to move his latest round of Botox by raising his eyebrows. Yes, it was a truly horrifying Halloween edition of The X Factor - although perhaps not for the right reasons.
A large amount of the 'Fright Night' special was spent building up the tension about a spooky, scary twist. It was hard to get too excited about the "shocking" twist for two reasons.
1. We were all told about it on Friday. It was on the front page of The Sun, for heaven's sake.
2. The twist was a person being eliminated. This Happens Every Week. It's not even remotely exciting.
After a decade on air, every possible twist and alteration to the mechanism of voting off singers week by week has been and gone. So it's probably about...

The X Factor group Only The Young have revealed that they feel like themselves again after being in the sing-off last week.
The four-piece, who won praise for their performance of 'Monster Mash', explained on The Xtra Factor that they had a lot of fun with tonight's Fright Night theme.
"We just feel like we're back and we just feel like us again," Parisa said. "It's an amazing feeling. We had the best time of our lives on stage tonight and I'm really proud of all of us."
When a fan asked if they should take more control of their song choices, she replied: "I think [tonight's success] is more about the fact that we just stayed being Only The Young - I think that's why people love us so much, because we're just us.
"I think if we work with Louis and find a compromise it should be fine.

Week Four saw The X Factor contestants perform the most frightening songs ever recorded in honour of Halloween.
Digital Spy rounds up what Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B and Louis Walsh had to say about Saturday night's (November 1) acts - and if you missed the show, you can catch up with all the performances below, too:
1. Ben Haenow: 'Highway to Hell' by AC/DC
Louis: "What an opening! You are the real deal, an authentic rock voice and it would absolutely get a recording deal."
Mel B: "Wow! What just happened?! By far, your best performance to date."
2. Lola Saunders: 'Crazy' by Gnarls Barkley
Mel B: "Cheryl, this week you have got it spot on. This is the Lola I want to see. Well done to you."
Simon: "By a mile your best performance so far [and] the first time I've seen you confident.

The X Factor judge Mel B made quite a gaffe on Twitter tonight (November 1), when she asked fans to save the already-eliminated Jake Quickenden.
Mel B attempted to rally support for Jack Walton ahead of tonight's shock elimination, but accidentally got him confused with Quickenden.
"Do not let @JakeQuickenden go Pls pls vote vote vote," she tweeted.
The judge was soon alerted to her mistake, writing: "Opppsss @jwaltonmusic."
Quickenden took the error in stride, replying: "oh no am I supposed to be singing lol #votejack"
Quickenden was eliminated from The X Factor last week, after losing a sing-off to Only The Young.

It's Fright Night on The X Factor this week and boy, wouldn't you know it! Not only are the acts all singing 'Fright Night'-themed songs (or, well, they're supposed to be) but one of them will be booted out before the night is out after Simon Cowell got fed up with them all for not trying hard enough. If that's not all scary enough, The Script will be popping along to perform.
So join us when the show starts at 8pm as we find out who gives us thrills and who gives us chills. And, of course, who's having a right nightmare and will have to leave the competition...
22:12It's not even over - the vote lines are open again, and someone's going to be sent home tomorrow. All your votes still count but we get another free five app ones - hooray! But that's it for...

All Hallow's Eve. Fright Night! The Americanisation of British culture continues apace with yet another Halloween special on The X Factor.
As ever, our friends at ITV have published the list of songs to be performed, as well as the artist who performed the version being covered.
Halloween classics 'Bat Out of Hell' and 'Thriller' are of course present and correct. 'Highway To Hell' is also suitably screamy.
'Relight My Fire' is the Take That/Lulu version rather than the Dan Hartman disco classic. We think it's allowed because Hell is fiery and that.
'Everybody (Backstreet's Back)' gets in because of its spooky video, rather than the song itself.
Similarly, we're guessing 'Mad World' gets a pass because of Gary Jules's dark reworking for Richard Kelly's 2001 classic Donnie Darko, but Jay James will apparently be doing the bouncy Tears For Fears original.
'Bleeding Love'? For Halloween? We...
