Donald Trump was rebuked by Judge Arthur Engoron for giving “speeches” during his testimony on Monday before New York court in a civil fraud trial that will determine the future of his business empire. At one point Engoron warned the former president’s attorneys that he would dismiss Trump from the stand if they did not get him under control.
“I beseech you to control him if you can,” Engoron said. “If you can’t, I will. I will excuse him and draw every negative inference that I can.”

Update: John Leguizamo and his wife Justine were given choice spots at the White House State Dinner: At the president’s table, seated with figures including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Earlier, Leguizamo told a reporter that he “definitely” would be hitting the campaign trail for Joe Biden in 2024.
Asked about Biden’s outreach to Latino voters, Leguizamo said, “I think he’s doing the right things, which is getting Latin consulatns and talking to Latin experts who tell him how to address us, and make the effort. If you make the effort, we will be there, but you have to make the effort. I think he’s doing all that — him and Kamala Harris as well.”
Previously: The guest list for tonight’s White House State Dinner for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and partner Jodie Haydon includes a number of names from entertainment and media.

‘Invasion’ Season 2 Episode 10 Recap & Ending Explained: Did Caspar Take Trevante In The Right Dire?
Apple TV+’s sci-fi series Invasion brings its second season to an end with an eventful finale, which, staying true to the series’ defining traits, concludes with another cliffhanger and a greater number of questions raised than answered. The problem is, unlike Lost or From, sci-fi series that had enough material and ideas to speculate and explore, Invasion follows a fairly simplistic narrative course and is already plagued by pacing issues, which makes holding on to predictable information pretty irritating.
In the previous episode, to find out about her daughter Sarah, Aneesha and the Movement faction infiltrated Project Idabel at invasion ground zero—Oklahoma—where they freed Trev and Rose from captivity. Aneesha went to free Sarah but, in the process, got both of themselves caught, while Trev led Rose and Movement leader Clark to the site where catatonic townsfolk—who were previously abducted and mind-wiped by aliens—are being kept.

Here's hoping Invasion receives a third-season order from Apple TV+ because viewers were left with a cliffhanger.
Humanity made its long-awaited counterassault on the alien mother ship on Invasion Season 2 Episode 10.
Still, do two people, one being a teenager, qualify as a counterassault?
That will depend on whether Trevante can determine how to wield that shard most efficiently.
There's also the question of Caspar's abilities beyond transferring his consciousness to that ship. He's got to be more than a celestial tour guide.
And making all of this possible was Mitzuki, who got pushed to her limits after visiting the mother ship on Invasion Season 2 Episode 9.
All her interaction with the alien portal had left Mitzuki, to use a technical term, more than a little scrambled.
She was holding things just slightly more together than that ward full of the scientists who had formerly interacted with the alien entity she later identified as a portal.

It’s most of the United States vs Mark Zuckerberg over the tactics of social media platforms towards kids.
Forty-one states on Tuesday filed lawsuits against Instagram and Facebook parent company Meta over strategies and algorithms they use to capture young people’s attention and keep them scrolling endlessly. At the same time, while pledging to make the platforms safe for minors and their mental health, the suit claims that Meta has essentially disregarded any significant guardrails such as “alternative feasible age verification” that could help with such protections.
“Research has shown that young people’s use of Meta’s Social Media Platforms is associated with depression, anxiety, insomnia, interference with education and daily life, and many other negative outcomes,” asserts the biting joint complaint filed in federal court today by 33 states, including California and New York. “Nonetheless, Meta has continued to deny and downplay these harmful effects to the...

On Sunday, Donald Trump posted to his social media platform, “Despite the Fake News reports to the contrary, and without even reaching out to ask the Trump Campaign, Ms. Powell Was Not My Attorney, And Never Was,” he wrote.
This declaration comes just days after Trump’s former lawyer, Sidney Powell, took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to criminal charges against her in Fulton County, Georgia.
The charges revolved around her involvement in Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
In his post, Trump called Powell “one of millions and millions of people who thought … correctly, that the 2020 Presidential Election was Rigged & Stollen.”
Trump further claimed that Powell would have faced a conflict of interest if she had been his attorney.
Powell had previously represented General Michael Flynn, who served as Trump’s National Security Adviser and pleaded guilty to lying about his contacts with Russia in the...

As the Israel-Hamas war continues, John Oliver has noticed that some members of the media “seem way too comfortable with” the war. One of the people who caught the “Last Week Tonight” host’s attention was a retired U.S. brigadier-general who advocated for a “war crime” while being interviewed by CNN.
During a segment on the news network, retired U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Steven Anderson, an analyst who has appeared on CNN multiple times, said that Israel needs to circle Gaza and apply pressure to the region using the blockade they’ve established. “The people are going to suffer,” Anderson said, before noting that the Palestinian people would eventually give up Hamas.
“Does that mean starve the Palestinian people?” an incredulous Victor Blackwell asked on the air. “Because they will be so hungry and so desperate for water and medicine that then they will give up Hamas?”

In the 1970s, John Lennon was in New York, living in a constant state of concern that the U.S. government had it out for him. He had a right to be concerned. The Nixon administration wanted to deport the Beatle, and he endured a lengthy legal battle to stay in the country. By 1972, Lennon realized just how serious the situation was. He noted that people were following him and believed people were listening in on his phone conversations.
John Lennon grew concerned that he was under surveillance by the U.S. government
Lennon and Yoko Ono became heavily involved in the anti-war movement. They staged demonstrations for peace and spoke out against the Vietnam War. Given his considerable influence, the Nixon administration grew concerned about his power to influence the youth. They wanted to deport him.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 8 — "The Jedi, The Witch, and the Warlord."
Well, the season finale of "Ahsoka" is somehow already here, and it definitely left us wanting more. That's not to say that episode 8, "The Jedi, The Witch and The Warlord," was lackluster or anticlimactic, necessarily. There was plenty of action and intrigue as Ahsoka teamed up with Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren on the planet Peridea to try and prevent Thrawn and his army of death troopers from escaping out of exile. Now that Thrawn has finally been introduced into live-action after appearing in "Star Wars Rebels" and multiple novels by Timothy Zahn, he was finally given the spotlight he truly deserves. Then, the credits rolled.
As the last few minutes of the finale came to pass, multiple threads popped up that were all incredibly compelling, suggesting that there is much more to come.

Spoiler Alert: This recap contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of Disney+/Lucasfilm’s Ahsoka, directed by Rick Famuyiwa and written by Dave Filoni.
Heading into tonight’s Season 1 finale of Ahsoka, fans knew we were flying to a cliffhanger; that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) would make the jump to hyperspace via the space loop while some portion of Ahsoka and friends would be left behind without a prayer in the midst of the green tundra tumbleweeds of Peridea in a galaxy far, far away.
What didn’t happen in this episode were any major cameos from Star Wars canon dramatis personae of yore, i.e., Princess Leia or Luke Skywalker or Boba Fett or Baby Yoda. No, we got our fill of that with C-3Po in the last episode, when he appeared to defend Hera’s rogue mission before the snarky Galactic council.
Where do we go from here?...

Donald Trump has been slapped with a (partial) gag order.
The former president has been making in-person appearances in Manhattan court this week for a civil fraud trial brought against him by the state of New York, taking advantage of the press coverage to malign those associated with the case. In Doctor Who, the phrase “wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff” has become synonymous with both the nature of time itself — short version: time is a nonlinear mess — and how woefully inadequate our layperson’s vocabulary is when it comes to blathering about time.
Whether you generally understand the intricacies of time and time travel but can’t formally express them, or your head immediately starts to explode the second somebody mentions killing Baby Hitler, it’s simpler to attribute temporal circumstances to “wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff” than pretend you’re Neil deGrasse Tyson.
The handiness of the phrase came to mind more than a few times while I watched the second season of Disney+’s Loki, on which the creative team has absolutely succeeded in using Marvel’s money to make a wildly expensive season of Doctor Who featuring Tom Hiddleston as the Doctor. It’s such a perfectly...

It’s the age of artificial intelligence, and whether we like it or not, the line between man and machine is getting blurrier by the day. With its vast potential, AI, or automated computation, is being used to replace human beings in various industries. The burning question remains: What really differentiates algorithm-based computation from sentient life in the long run? And if it is emotion, can technology also emulate that in automation we conventionally don’t consider to be alive? Gareth Edward’s recent feature, The Creator, is not the first movie to raise such questions, but it certainly becomes the most topical one due to the way it handles the question at a time when the world is preoccupied with the utility of AI.

Underscoring its historical importance, a further production marking the 50th death anniversary of Chile’s socialist president Salvador Allende could well be in the works. The historical drama, provisionally titled “The Meeting,” details a historical encounter between the doomed president, whose downfall heralded the rise of the infamous military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet in 1973.
Producers Patricio Ochoa of Chile’s La Merced Prods., Cristóbal Sotomayor of Twentyfour Seven, Spain and U.S.-based executive producer Hebe Tabachnik of Lokro Production are in talks with potential production partners in Vietnam and France and with possible international sales agents.
Gonzalo Maza, the screenwriter behind Chile’s Oscar-winning “A Fantastic Woman” is attached as a script doctor to the screenplay penned by filmmaker-writer Antonio Luco.
“The Meeting” relates the fateful 1969 meeting between Allende, who was then Chile’s Senate president, and Vietnam’s President Ho Chi Minh, a frail 79 and on his last days.

Sudan has submitted Mohamed Kordofani’s Khartoum-set drama Goodbye Julia for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
The film made history in Cannes this year as the first Sudanese film to play in the festival after it was selected for Un Certain Regard.
Its premiere took place just weeks after fighting broke out in Khartoum due to a clash between rival generals, which has led to the deaths of 5,000 people and uprooted seven million people.
Since Cannes, the film has also played at Karlovy Vary in its Horizons section and will make its Mena premiere at Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival in October ahead of a theatrical release in the country on October 25. It has also been selected for the BFI London Film Festival.
The selection was made by the Sudanese National Committee which is operating in exile.

With just two episodes left of “Ahsoka” on Disney+, there are many plot threads that hopefully will be addressed.
With most of the major characters, including Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), either at or headed to (or trying to leave) the planet Peridea as of Episode 6, there will surely be some epic fights to come.
In Episode 6, viewers learned that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) was thriving despite being exiled to the distant galaxy, to which his follower Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) was able to map a route.
Peridea also happens to be where purrgil, or star whales, migrate to using an organic form of hyperdrive. It is also the homeworld of the Nightsisters or Dathomiri, a faction of witches who use powerful magic and have aligned themselves with Thrawn.
Here’s where all the major characters stand leading into Episode 7. New episodes of “Star Wars: Ahsoka” stream Tuesdays at 6 pm E.

A big, brawny original sci-fi movie is a rare thing in the age of franchise branding, which makes you root for Gareth Edwards’ The Creator, an admirably ambitious endeavor, stuffed with imposing visuals, impressive design work and nifty tech hardware. But this future-world action thriller about a war between humankind and artificial intelligence feels like a lot of movies scrunched together, most of them familiar. A dull lead, a wishy-washy vein of ersatz spirituality, racial optics by turns uneasy and pandering and the usual chaotic plotting don’t help. Even the charm of an enigmatic robo-kid only goes so far.
Co-scripting with Chris Weitz, one of the writers on the director’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Edwards repurposes ideas from that movie with an assortment of elements and iconography pieced together from several others, among them Blade Runner, Aliens, District 9, Akira, War of the Worlds and Apocalypse Now.

Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci and Sean Foley are teaming for a West End stage production of Stanley Kubrick’s classic 1964 war satire, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.
Billed as the first-ever adaptation of a Kubrick work, Dr. Strangelove will star Coogan in multiple roles at London’s Noel Coward Theatre for a limited run from October 8, 2024-December 21, 2024.
The adaptation hails from Veep creator and Coogan’s Alan Partridge collaborator Iannucci, and Olivier Award-winner Foley. Foley will also direct.
The original Oscar-nominated film about a rogue U.S. General who triggers a nuclear crisis, starred Peter Sellers, George C Scott, Sterling Hayden and Slim Pickens, among others. Sellers memorably played more than one character, scoring an Oscar nomination in the process.
Said Coogan, “The idea of putting Dr. Strangelove on stage is daunting. A huge responsibility. It’s also an exciting challenge, an...

One might notice little odd camera tricks and visual continuity errors throughout all the "Star Wars" movies if one looks closely enough. For instance, there is a scene in George Lucas' "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" wherein Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) is about to fight the evil robotic lizard General Grievous (Matthew Wood). Grievous first tries to send a few attack droids after Obi-Wan, but the Jedi uses his mental powers to pull a large object from the ceiling and send it crashing onto their heads. Grievous and Obi-Wan proceed to have a proper lightsaber fight. One might notice, though, that the crushed droids and the large chunk of ceiling are nowhere to be seen. Clearly, the filmmakers didn't bother to invent a reason why those things were gone.
